I believe some fuel system cleaners work, PEA has been shown to work in labs with motor tear downs. It's generally considered effective, but it's doesn't prevent build up long term, though I do fully agree with you on top tier fuel. The problem is with used vehicles, you don't really know, and while no cleaner will fix an already clogged injector the cleaners can help remove pre-existing build up before it becomes a larger issue.
Everyone always has their antidotal experience, I do as well, bought a 2009 Buick, gas gauge was off (horribly, apparently the fuel sending unit was prone to build up which throw off it's accuracy), and it took a long time to start (some times 5-7 attempts). I looked up online and found this was a semi common occurrence with these vehicles, Buick/GM released a TSB in regards to this issue stating to run Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. Active ingredient was PEA, so I ran several tanks of it back to back, maybe 3-4 wasn't a lot of $ to add it to each, if helped significantly with gas gauge, and also with starting.
I had the car for close to a decade, just recently sold it, and in that time neither issue ever returned, so while I do believe a lot of the additive market is a scam, there are a handful of products which have proven to do as they claim in lab, and real world tests/tear downs.

Normally on a fuel injector balance test, it is performed with key on, engine off and the fuel injectors are each activated separately key on engine off for a predetermined time, and after each one tested ,the key must be cycled off then back on to cycled the fuel pump on for a second to build the rail pressure back before proceeding to the next. After all the injectors have been tested for flow measuring the pressure drops to compare, then you start the engine to clear out all the gas and run a little while before you can repeat the testing again.
If the engine is running and you disable a selected fuel injector , if it runs rougher , that just tells you that the fuel injector for that cylinder must have been contributing and working..

1FNJO Yes that is how a fuel injector balance test is performed on a conventional fuel injected engine. On a direct injected engine you have both an electric fuel pump and a mechanical high pressure pump so the engine has to be running so the mechanical fuel pump is working otherwise the electric fuel pump would not be able to consistently pressurize the fuel rail because it would be fighting the high pressure pump in its resting state. The manual actually has a somewhat complex method of recording all the pressure drops and averaging them together them figuring out 20 percent of that and that is the accepted amount of pressure drop allowed.

Why does the scan tool say to
Start the vehicle when doing the balance test, won't it flood
The engine with the engine off.

I have a 16 Camaro SS, I keep getting a bad misfire on cyl 3 at WOT and some slight misfire on the other cyls on that side. I replaced the injectors the fuel rail and the wiring and it was fine for awhile but it eventually came back. I did the drop test with this scan tool and the driver's side is around 250 kpa and the passenger is 350, any Idea on what I should do next? I may figure it out but not sure lol Thank you

That injector is leaking and causing too much fuel to pass.

Hey man, i would appreciate if you can answer my question. So i have a cylinder 5 misfire, i changed the spark and coil and it’s still misfiring on cylinder 5. I did the same test that you did for you fuel injector and it says it’s fine but it’s still misfiring. What could be the problem?

i can answer that question actually even GM scantool or GDS is not accurate when performing injector balance test im wondering why that will lead you to missed diagnose so that i decided to use the AFIT active fuel injector tester the most accurate tools finally found the faulty injector before you use the afit make sure the battery is good and support with booster make sure fuel pressure is good and do basic things before you use it.

Do you have to pay every year to used these OBD ? If you dont pay every year or monthly Does it still works ? Does it Scan for Fuel Pressure Does it Scan for
Compression testing Like Sparks ? So if you dont update for example does that still works ?

I have read when you go from one country to another there are issues regardless where you buy it so to be on the safe side I would send Autel a message and ask if there are any issues going from one country to another as long as it is an Autel authorized tool.
