    I actually really like your reviews and I’ve seen you do the regular MDX and now the Type-S. The touch pad I believe you aren’t using it correctly. I saw that you are swiping to get to where you want to go and it actually doesn’t work that way. It’s a point and click type touch pad. So where ever you finger is corresponds to where you are at on the screen.

      It's not about how it is supposed to be used, it is about how users/drivers will use it, isn't it? :)

    • @chintanshah18
      @chintanshah18 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yashpatel4072 I am actually thinking a step that comes before your question - Did Acura do enough study on how normal user will think of using its system? Try looking at 2018 Q7 which has a pad and it works so effortlessly. In contrast one has to get acquainted and used to Acura’s interface. There are no wrong answers to this…but just detailed application of Human Factor Design concept

    • @yashpatel4072
      @yashpatel4072 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chintanshah18 right I understand what you are saying. I assume they must have done their research to implicate this style of touch pad against a “normal” one to try and make it safer and easier to use. Like anything there is a learning curve but after time should be better than a traditional touch pad. They could be wrong too lol it actually might not be easier to use once people are use to it and may change it down the line in future models. It is Acura’s responsibility to explain how it works when customers come to see the car and I hope they are doing so. Nothing against Kelly (I hope I spelled your name right if not forgive me) maybe she was just not informed of that feature. And that is why it’s “more” difficult to use.

    I have the Acura MDX 2022 and while the touchpad was my biggest concern it took maybe 2 days to get use to. The only downfall is when the passenger wants to do something they have to also use the touchpad but no finger prints on the screen is a plus! It’s very easy to use once you get use to it and so glad I didn’t make it a deal breaker!

      I am wondering the same too! Hard to find a midsize luxury SUV that doesn’t cost $60-70k with third row vents. I wish they would fix this already!! I don’t like driving giant SUVs. I want something that sits higher off the ground, can accommodate third row passengers for long road trips with ventilation, comfy seats and still have luxurious feel in the inside.

    I lease a 2019 MDX. The size/drive is perfect for me because my kids are grown. Really like the 2022 with the captain seat convertibility (2019 doesn’t have), BUT with the exorbitant gas prices in California, I don’t think I will continue to lease/own newer model because it takes premium gas. It’s over $100 to fill up and that’s Costco gas prices.

  • @armaniusmaximus

    The touchpad is actually not intended to scroll through each icon on the LCD. The user is supposed to touch the touchpad at its corresponding location for the icon seen on the LCD. So an icon that is on the top right of the LCD would be accessed by a touch on the top right of the touchpad.

    Totally agree about the infotainment screen, there is no way a car with this cost should come without a touchscreen (cheaper cars made in 2020+ come with touchscreens).
    This is my major disappointment and it is odd that their new (cheaper) Acura Integra will come with a touchscreen but not their flagship MDX Type S.
    The Type S Advance is exciting to drive and spacious, but thirsty (especially in sports+ mode). I am generally getting about 17mpg.

    I usually enjoy your videos but not this one. I believe you mentioned 20 inch wheels but the type S has 21 inch. Also, if you review a Type S, you need to drive it. If you dont drive it, then you dont know what the turbo V6 driving experience is which is why when you went to option your MDX, you picked the tech package. If you dont drive it to get a feel for the car and then its the same as the regular MDX for the most part.

    You nailed it on the media console. It is horrible to use. Even bigger problem which is very easy to overlook is that it's wireless charger is not compatible with iPhone 12 and beyond, which 65% of US phone share. It is a one big rectangle that sits on a 65k SUV center console, staring at you doing nothing. I got Acura to agree it is an issue but they denied to resolve it. As there are better things in life to do, I sold it last month and swapped it with x5.

    • @Darkangel-sw9lm
      @Darkangel-sw9lm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ford has same issue. It’s actually an issue with Apple. They changed the location of the battery so the chargers have a hard time locating it to charge. Sucks.

    • @chintanshah18
      @chintanshah18 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Darkangel-sw9lm I enquired with Apple and they have a well documented answer that it is not Apple issue. Interestingly, Honda Odyssey of same model year has no issues charging any iPhone model. Acura came very close to discussing reimbursement with me after I showed them the evidence. I just felt that getting reimbursement will mean I will have to use the defective product everyday, knowing that manufacturer does not intend to fix it. Hence, I just sold it. I am glad I got an X5….the interface is so awesome…i should have got it in first place

    • @Darkangel-sw9lm

      I personally think Acuras reliability is way better than BMW and wouldn’t have made that trade over a phone charger. To each there own.

    • @chintanshah18
      @chintanshah18 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Darkangel-sw9lm I wouldnt agree more on reliability. But it’s not about phone charger, but more about company denying to accept the issue first. Once they accepted it unofficially over a phone conversation, they did not intended to resolve it. If you see Consumers Report in last few years - Acuras have taken quite a beating in reliability.
      Try going to a dealer and tell them about this issue - they will conduct test on every phone but iphone 12 or 13. And they also log as issue not found. Just tells a lot about company policy and directive

    It would have been cool to see a less in-depth review of the car itself and more of a comparable review of the Type S to the standard MDX. The video felt a little rushed trying to highlight most of the MDX design when you covered it more in-depth with your previous review. But a lot people knock the touch pad, but I like it a lot more than having a touch screen. It’s easier to navigate quickly instead of trying to reach far to touch the screen, and helps me keep my eyes on the road more than trying to figure out which app/setting I’m trying to touch on the screen.
