I worked for a special education summer school program in NJ years ago. One day I’m eating lunch with a bunch of the staff and we start talking about music. I say I’m a Dave Matthews fan. Then one lady goes “I used to sing with them”. We get to talking and she said she was one of the lovely ladies. She told me about all the famous singers she used to back up. Sure enough first opportunity I get I look up this and there she is. She is the one on the right and who opens up the solo. Mind blown.
This performance gives me chills. Having seen DMB 20 something times, and always wanting to hear “angel” I now know why I haven’t. You can’t beat this.
They've only played it 30 something times. And that was in 2001 and 2003. It would be AMAZING if Dave pulled it out of his bag of tricks, but I don't see it happening.... Unfortunately. Eat, drink, and be merry! 💚🌎🌝🌕🌙🎑🌠💙🩵🌚
thank you Dave Matthews and band for this beautiful song. It's especially a great treat to see my favorite female backing singers together! Tawatha Agee, Cindy Mizelle and Brenda White-King on the same stage singing. I'm in awe!
I was at this show. I was 19 and me and two of my best girlfriends drove from Ca to Boulder. Had the best and this show was incredible. The rain stopped for Dave.
You just gave me goosebumps. That is so freaking awesome that you admit publicly that you broke down. That shows how HUMAN you really are!!! DMB FOREVER
Brenda White-King, Cindy Mizelle, and Tawatha Agee are The Lovely Ladies. They are ALL legendary in the music business. They've sang on just about every popular song/album known to man. They all were longtime singers for Luther Vandross singing on all his recordings and accompanying him on stage. They're also known as the "New York Elite" or "The A-Team", being that they are highly demanded in the industry. Hope this helped! :-)
A few things: 1. These guys have been going around the country for 20yrs or so taking people by the hand into outer space for a dance in the falling stardust. 2. Sometimes artists know they're KILLING IT, and they don't have to be cocky or arrogant; they're appreciative and in awe too - I think this is such a time. 3. This is a complete Lovefest, and I think a lot of people "got it" on this one. I know tastes don't always translate, but if you can manage the 15mins, you might see what I mean.
I cannot stop hitting Repeat....in my car, at the gym, at home. From Roi to Butch to The Lovely Ladies!!!!! I lose myself every time I listen to this sweet music.
That moment when the powers that be have perfect timing and send you a song out of nowhere that is somehow a perfect fit for every facet of your current situation. In fact, it fits so well that it's almost unbearable and that's the moment you think maybe you should turn it off before you start to cry, but you don't because you know it's what you need to hear. So instead, you turn it louder and listen to it again at least three more times in a row.
You have got to be kidding me. This song is one of the worst DMB songs. I honestly don't understand how someone could like this song. It takes time away from a good song like seek up.
Totally a personal preference. I love this song, but have heard it just a few times in the many dozens of DMB shows I've attended. For me the gems are the less played tunes. Sadly, with the last albums from a few years ago, and the songs he's sung so far from the forthcoming album we are left with mostly mediocre tunes, mixed with a few greats from yesteryear. Again, my opinion and preference.
Me too Tiffany Knef! I've been seeing Dave since the mid 1990's and I've never heard this song live :( It is definitely up there for me. No, it's certainly not "The Stone" but it holds a different kind of place in my soul 😉.
@@darkstar1691It does not take away ANYTHING from ANY DMB song. You're only listening to it with a narrow mind and a closed heart. Take a walk around the moon and listen to Angel with headphones or earbuds on. Peace
Great music. Tthree of the greatest female songtress and not to mentioned background singers of all time ( w/luther vandross). Brenda, tawatha and cindy. Love how these ladies sing in unison and are able to demonstrate their individual vocal prowess.
Hands down, one of the best dmb performances of all time. The lovely ladies tear it up and knock it out of the park. Only other performances i like better are bartender from this concert and jimi thing from central park concert. Thanks for uploading :-)
When I am asked to describe how it is I feel for my girlfriend all I do is play this song for those that are asking. I like to think they get the message after hearing this. It's just another masterpiece by this band.

@@dmbgator86 I'm loving that DMB is your favorite band. IDK many men that would claim that. As far as the Angel lyrics go, I agree that they're simple. But sometimes simplistically is what's needed. Each to their own. Eat, drink, and be merry! ✌️🌎
RIP Leroi, I got to see you play one of your last shows. I haven’t seen them live since. One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to
I haven’t seen them live since Boyd left. Just don’t enjoy the sound anymore?!

If you can't get emotional about this one you can't get emotional about much. Sometimes I just watch it so I can feel something.
The only version of this song I can listen to. Lovely Ladies light this up. Butch on the keys, Leroi was still with us. These are my good ol days.
The lovely ladies were a magical combo with DMB. The version of stay with them is INCREDIBLE as well

Seriously do not understand why people dont like this song. I read on a few forums that many people say this is the worst dmb song . yeah right
@TheProudestMonkey1 What did you do with the extra one second? :D
Not a much better segment of live music than this.
Do you think they'll bring back Butch for the 4 stops this summer??
Butch retired unfortunately....
Song should've ended at 5:23
This is a joke right? Those were some powerful vocals and a fresh take to this song. But hey I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Song should have never ended
You're being sarcastic I hope . . .
dave concerts just arent the same without that saxy sax anymore mannnnn.
I think I found my angel at 5:47!!!
