Melo wasn't the problem. He praised Lin a ton and even said he "fell to us from on high." He was always a supporter of Lin.
The issue was, D'antoni was a divisive coach and didn't want to incorporate Melo'a skillset into the offense, instead trying to turn him into a spot up shooter like he did to Pau Gasol the following season in LA to predictably poor results. Ultimately D'antoni was let go and Lin was reportedly given a false promise from Knicks management. He wanted more money and they said they'd match any offer. Then Houston reportedly offered more than they could match and they opted to re-acquire Felton who played great in D'antoni's offense the year before.
The Knicks and Lin's plans didn't pan out obciously. Lin went to Houston and Felton didn't perform on the same level as before with his fitness being a large concern. But what sunk Lin's career had nothing to do with Melo. It was largely injuries and the fact that Lin's attempt to go for his money didn't pay off for his long term career. He wound up playing with Harden who was already basically playing pg and who had a reputation for having issues sharing the spotlight with co-stars like Dwight and later, CP3. Lin got bumped somewhat to the 2 position and, without the heavy pick and roll offense he thrived in, his career began to spiral downward.
It's unfortunate because Mike Woodson, who replaced D'antoni in NY, had the perfect offense for the team. He melded the heavy pick and roll offense that Lin thrived in with Melo's iso game and developed an elite offense to go with a stout defense. If Lin had stayed in NY, it would've been a perfect fit. Instead, he got paid more in the short term and probably lost out on a lot after that and the Knicks, although they had 1 great regular season, weren't able to replicate the success with no co-star to solidify the team.

well at the time it was obvious, but didnt report it...Carmelo wanted Lin off the team. The rest of team knew that. Go watch those games...all the team mates (minus melo) were thriving with Lin's ball movement which was Dantoni's system. Dantoni demanded melo be traded or he would resign. I give Dantoni much props for resigning. Donnie Walsh the "GM" that got blind sided by that horrible melo trade also resigned btw. Melo ruined the knicks for a huge time span. His trade brough along Cahuncey billups and that was huge b/c knicks used the amnesty on Billups when they could have saved it to use on Amare contract. Media sided with Melo.
@@Urbohat oh man, the way Lin made every single one of his teammates perform like the stars they've been their while lives gives me goosebumps. True leader. Everyone on that team was thriving hard. I can go back and watch all those games, it's the way the game should be played.
@@csl9495 yes and then it stopped...it all stopped b/c they had to please meeelo. Lin should have been a knick and he would have done well there. But knicks refused to offer him a contract. Meelo then proceeded to turn Porzingas against knicks later on. That melo trade was the worst thing to happen to knicks.
Amare came out and said it out flat. Melo didn’t want Lin on the team because he was jealous of Lin’s popularity. Which player would come out and criticize another for “getting too much money “? If Lin stayed, Melo’s career after that probably would be much better. Karma’s a bitch, isn’t it?

Linsanity was the most excitement from the knicks in the past decade. This past year many knick fans actually thought knicks had a chance to go deep in the playoffs. Today they want Thibadeu fired. Maybe they'll trade away all their next five years draft picks for Zion who can get paid 300 million to be on Injured list. After the way they treated Lin I gave on the knicks. There was some hope with Phil suggesting a big trade for Porzingas to the celtics which would have given knicks a haul. Media killed Phil and got him to go which he happily did with the full 60 million. NY media doesn't understand basketball.
These 10 days got him paid for the rest of his life 😤. One of the best moments in basketball history

Damn it’s really been 10 years? crazy part is Linsanity was the time period of the 11-12 lockout season I started watching basketball, as an 8 year old Jeremy Lin was really cool to me.

This Linsanity period is what kept him in the league long enough to win a ring. What a talented dude, I hope we can see more from him in the future!

@@BisuTenshi ... People forget that the NBA has been around for 75 years & in all those years, many players never really got much playing time & mainly benched. But yet, when a team wins, no matter what sport, every player on that team as well as the coaching staff & the executives/owners, all win the trophy together. It is unfair to Jeremy that he would be singled out as one player in one season out of all the 75 seasons in the history of the NBA to be unworthy of a championship, when there have been many others who did very little contribution, but yet they have never been singled out themselves. As the old saying goes, the whole team wins or the whole team loses. And let's not forget that Jeremy was acquired mid-season in February 2019 by the Raptors, so that wasn't enough time for him to understand how all the other players played. He was also coming off a stint at Atlanta that made him feel that he was going to worse teams, not to mention the physical & psychological effects of the season-ending injury he got a couple years earlier with the Nets. I would say his playing confidence wasn't really high during the Raptors. Plus coach Nurse had to make sure to put the primary players on the court, the ones that had larger acquisations, I suppose. Sure, Lin is not the best player, but he's not the worse either. He is right there in the middle, which is enough talent, hard work & skill to still be playing major league NBA. He even swallowed his ego when he entered G-league last year. He made a name for himself during Linsanity because he could play ball & got the city, the country & the world to be excited, when the Knicks were sucking for 15-20 years before he arrived in NY. You can even see footage of girl fans smiling & screaming in delight when he entered a room or out of a car at the time of Linsanity.

I never understood why the nba didn’t support Lin, not from a bball perspective, but from a purely monetary one. Li sanity filled knicks and rockets stadiums with people who never used to go to games. Letting Carmelo force Lin out of New York was a huge blunder that I believe cost the league millions in revenue.
Don't like to the play the race card but race was definitely a factor in why Lin wasn't kept around longer by the NBA and also why although he had quite a stellar G League performance he was never called up by the NBA.

As a lifelong Knicks fan and an Asian American, Jeremy Lin's run with us was the greatest basketball moment for me. I'm glad I was able to experience it as an adult and actually catch a game. Incredible time and massive respect to his heart
Any other person with his high school accolades would’ve been scouted for Division I colleges but I believe discrimination was a factor in him not starting out big or being drafted.
100%. Certain ethnics, such as asians probably have many academic merits, while being good athletically. But due to the nature sports and marketing, consumers most likely will resonate to someone whos black, because theyre viewed as "disadvantaged". Hence the prolification of an "underdog" story sells better than lets say jeremy lin here, whos got academic merits from Harvard university and can also play basketball
Daryl Morey said it himself he discriminated against JLin. All his advanced "stats" said to draft him but he said he simply didn't believe what he was seeing just because Jlin was asian.

I was glued to every Knicks game during that time as Raptors fan in western Canada! He was the talk in the office during Linsanity even in an absolutely non basketball town in Canada!

jeremy lin went to my public high school palo alto he was a couple years older than me but I will never forget the 2006 high school state chmapionship where I saw him beat my high school live... we were good but this dude scored 39 in 3 quarters

I remember watching him from the couch at Palo Alto comcast sports then seeing him at the sac vs bay 1st allstar game. He was a legend out here in cali. I avg 28-10 in HS trying to surpass him and few others. Very inspirational throughout his career.

As a New Yorker, you brought a different type of energy that's been missing ever since that time, and while it's hard to appreciate the moment when it's happening, we have nothing but Love for you out here in the Big Apple. Thanks for making the entire city, especially people of diversity, feel like they could accomplish the world, right here in New York.
Jeremy is such a humble guy and is always giving back to the community . I'm so glad there is fans that still remembers Linsanity. Too bad he couldn't do much in Toronto.
I just love this guy. Jeremy is just so authentic. And he looks like a genuinely kind and loveable dude. He is one of those guys, you could probably instantly become friends with. Truly also an inspiration as the Asian underdog in the NBA back then.
I was actually crashing at my Asian homies crib when linsanity happened. We were hoopers back then too and we were so geeked for every Lin game. The story just kept getting better and better.
Will always be one of my favorite players. You can't help but root for the guy and when he got reinjured the first game after coming back my heart literally broke for him. Was always rooting for him no matter where he went!

His biggest asset was his speed. He doesn't have it anymore after injuries. He's not a IQ pg like paul. He relied on athleticism.

I'll always remember the phone call my brother who had been following you since your days at Harvard. "Jeremy went off tonight" I was at Caesars Palace by the poker room and I ran off to the sports book. Linsanity was such a huge moment for me as someone who grew up playing basketball but was limited in size and speed to barely make the end of the bench rotations.
The only athletes my mom could name at the time were Kobe Bryant and Peyton Manning, but now my mom knows Landry Fields, Amare Stoudemire, and Jared Jeffries. She knows Carmelo too, but she says his name with disgust because she thinks he did Jeremy dirty.
As a lifelong Knicks fan born and bred, Jeremy Lin was the sole bright spot since the '99 Finals with Spree. I'm sad that he was brushed under the rug on so many teams. Saw him during the 2016 summer when he signed with BK, just strolling around Manhattan and he was a super nice and down-to-earth guy. A great ambassador for the game.
I miss Linsanity, I wanted him on the Bulls tbh given his abilities as a great passer as well as a veteran player, and I still think he has so much left to give. (the man is only 33, cmon) Boggles me that he didn't get called up ever again to the league by any teams after that stint with the Raps, but atleast he has a ring to show for it.

Linsanity played a huge part in rekindling my love for the NBA. Growing up in NY I was always so so on basketball cause I knew the Knicks were trash but when the Linsanity run happened it gave off an energy that I'd never felt before in the sport. It's a large part of why I'm still a Knicks fan today was because of just how exciting it felt for them to be good like again. I just wish Jeremy got fair shot man

this is linsane. he was a great fit in D'Antoni's system. could have elevated the Knicks to the next level.
It's unfortunate he didn't stay. D'antoni's coaching approach was divisive for not only the Knicks but LA in the following seasons.
Mike Woodson's offense in 2013 would've been perfect for both Melo and Lin to thrive. Uptempo offense with heavy pick and roll options for the pg and then a healthy dose of Melo on the block with shooters everywhere. Jason Kidd probably would've been great for Lin too.

You're better off tanking and getting a top 3 pick every year because at least you are setting yourself up for success in 5-10 years. Getting bounced in the 1st round of the playoffs every year leaves you in virtual purgatory. You're not good enough to go deep in the playoffs and you're not bad enough to get a high draft pick. If you're a small market team, you're just existing at that point.

Watching this at the time as a Knicks fan was amazing. I was so pissed back then when we didn’t match the Rockets offer.
I used to live in New York when Linsanity happened. I was 8 at the time and did not really watch basketball, but I remember my mom got me the "Linsanity" t-shirt with his name and number on the back and I loved it. Didn't really know what it meant at the time other than it was a Knicks shirt, but looking back I find it amazing how I really did have a Linsanity shirt back then. What he did was astounding, I still hope that he comes back to the NBA one day and I get to see him play one more time.
I remember being a kid in this city watching it all transpire. Being Asian myself, it felt like such an inspiration. He represented everything this city was about imo.
As a Knicks fan this month was one of my favorites memories as a fan!

Melo was pretty obvious, Harden was too although that happened coz they both need to have the ball in their hands. But Melo was the worst. You can just see once he came back to playing that Linsanity was over.

This video has such good vibes. 2012 I was still a sophomore high schooler in China , me and my classmates were going crazy about the Linsanity. 2022 now, I'm in the Bay Area living and felt like 2012 was just yesterday.
That teamwork during Linsanity was All chemistry. No particular superstar, but they were a good team.
I have been and will be always re-visited the Linsanity moments, it's not even feel good, it's just one of the iconic moment in the NBA history, am sure many nba fans feel the same way. He love NYC and sure the New Yorker also love him. He has the old skool spirit of bball player. Mad respect.

I remember lynsanity. I loved watching him, he tried so hard and had so much intensity.
And made the knicks watchable for the first time in over 10 years. This led me to really hating Carmelo Anthony, cause once he came back from injury everything ended.
He was so selfish and ruined everything the knicks were building.

That whole situation screamed Knicks ineptitude. And what's really unfortunate is the Knicks roster and offense under Mike Woodson the following season fit Lima ND Melo perfect.

I was in middle school in NY and never cared much about basketball or the NBA. One day everyone’s talking about Jeremy Lin and how good he played the night before. The same month he was all over TH-cam and kids were wearing Lin jerseys everywhere. Linsanity was definitely a cool time to be around.
Good story. That was a nice lil run he had from what I remember its like he caught fire one night and stayed in the zone longer than I've ever seen anybody in any sport until it fizzled out. He might hold the record for "player with longest time being in the zone" It was cool to watch who doesn't like a good underdog story

That day when lin awakened his ultra instinct in The knicks is just unforgetable.
I was watching his TH-cam videos before Linsanity happened, his grind and work ethic had been there from the start.
I wasn't a knicks fan, I was a magic fan and even during this time my interest in the NBA was wavering... but I knew THIS WAS SO COOL TO SEE! it was awesome and magical.
Jeremy lin gave millions of asian the hope to make the NBA, RUI Hachimura, yuta watanabe and many others in the future all have to thank him, as an Asian myself i can't thank him enough

It’s sad how he was so nice to his fellow teammates and friends in the Nba and then Kobe was just trashing him. Remember when the Lakers played against the Hornets? Kobe made a turnover and he fell to the ground. No one helped him so Jeremy Lin came to pick him back up and Kobe made a sneaky dirty move, he tripped Jeremy Lin while he was pulling Kobe. No hate to the Legend but it just bothers me how Jeremy Lin got disrespected.
