    Mounting Plate $41 - amazon, free shipping
    Aluminum Fairlead $17 - bought locally

    i have a recon 250 and its super hard to mount a winch so i bolted it to the mounting plate and the only way was to weld it onto the frame and had to make a custom mount for the rolley

    Ya, the warn winches are way over priced for what you get. I've used the Badlands winches for years and they hold up very well for me. You are able to rebuild them and replace the brushes when they get worn out. My last one was 10-11 years old before I tore it apart. I used it to lift my snowplow, so it gets a lot of steady use all winter long. I recently bought a 3500 lb. Badland winch at Harbor Freight for $89 with a coupon so I have all the power I want now!

    Hey fella nice video. I bought the same winch and ran into the same problem with my kfi mount and fairlead. I bought the aluminum one same as you but haven't installed either one yet. Wanted to know how that fairlead is holding up and how often you use the winch. Thanks for the vid

      Flora Dew Hi Flora, thanks for the comments, other than playing around with the winch a bit, I have not had any serious usage yet....Have a trail ride planned soon, will see if we get in a bind at all and need to use it. I mainly got it for emergencies, so do not plan to use it on a daily basis, if that were the case, the roller leads would probably be a lot better from a friction point of view. But the aluminum one sure made for a better install!

    Just a follow-up, no problems with the winch or fairlead yet, however, just a warning, it puts a lot more stress on the battery. My battery failed, however, it was about 4 years old. The winch is not the strongest or fastest as expected, but seems to be ok for light duty.

      +psemar Thanks for the great video. Super helpful. I just ordered the KFI mount and when it arrives will piece it all together. Two questions: 1. Did the mount come with hardware, or do I need to get that? 2. What would you do differently to avoid the battery issue you mentioned? Thanks again!

    • @psemar
      @psemar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, all hardware I needed came with the winch and mount. The easy solution for the battery is always leave it running when using the winch, leave the ATV on a battery tender when not in use. I never got around to researching wiring it into the ignition, but that would be ideal.

    Hey psemar, good video, but just a question regarding moving the cable to the top for leverage...Would it have just been easier, to unspool the cable and re-spool it back onto the drum, with the fair lead hook on the top? I'm getting ready to install same system in my 05 Honda Rincon and after watching your video, thought about doing it that way. Your thoughts??

    • @psemar
      @psemar  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Shelby Kirkland Hi Shelby, according to directions for best leverage, the wire needs to come from the top, with the KFI mount, it appeared that shield would have been in the way. I could have left the shield on and had the cable pull from the bottom, but I did not think the shield was that important.

    You mounted the winch on the frame of the ATV right? I’ve already watched the video but I forgot I’m about to watch it again. How many holes did you end up having to make? Oh and do you have to remove that safety plate?

    • @psemar
      @psemar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was mounted to a plate that I got from Amazon rather than directly to the frame. This was the way I did it, not sure if it was correct, I have seen other comments that I should have left the safety plate and not put it upside down. Others flame that rolling pin I used was not designed for steel cable, I am aware of that, but seemed to work fine for light use. If you are going for heavy use, get a better winch!
