Hi, I am Rayhan , from Sudan, really thank you and I really appreciate all your books and Audios which helped me a lot and I fix my mistakes and learn from you everytime new things, I became a trainer and I wrote my first book under publishing now. one day I will visit the U.S yo thank you personally, a lot of thanks and love to you my mentor :)
Hi Brian, I find it difficult to sleep when travelling, which after watching your video I think actually helps. I'm originally from the UK, but live in Australia, so from time to time make the trip back and forth, usually this encompasses around 24 hrs of travel. As I sat, I don't sleep during these flights, so am usually pretty tired when I land, but I always insist on resisting the urge to sleep until it is evening in the country that I have landed. This means that my body clock immediately adjusts to the local time zone. Another thing that I have learned about flying, this time the hard way, is to resist the temptation of over indulging in alcohol during the flight, as you say, the secret is plenty of water.
Brian is 100% accurate, I traveled for my first time and was not clued up on jetlag, my flight was 17 hours with a 5 hour time zone difference. On the day I landed, I got to my hotel, had something to eat and then took a nice long hot bath unknownly that this is the remedy. My body was so relaxed and then I layed my head down and fell into the deepest sleep I ever experienced in my life for 2 hours. I woke up feeling refreshed and continued my vacation like jetlag didn't exist. Great advice!
Yes my best tip is to NOT sleep at your destination before it’s evening. If you do this will mess with you even more. Stay awake until bedtime in the current country. Exercise later in the day to get your endorphins going and staying fresh. You can also do it in the morning but it might make you tired faster during the day. So I do it at 6pm or even 8pm so I am not sleeping before 10pm.
Air pressure and time zone change. You need one day to recover. 1. Drink water 2. Stay awake then nap 3. Take a hot bath on the day you arrive, water is essential 4. Drink coffee
1. I understand that water aboard planes isn't advisable. The bulk containers aren't cleaned very often. Is it permissible. to carry 8-9 liters of water onto the plane? 2. As you suggested sleeping a few hours, I guess I can n drop the water amount to 6 liters. 3.Drinking that much water, perhaps I should reserve my seat in the washroom?
I like to get sunshine on my face, including my eyelids, in the morning of my first full day in a new place. I think it helps my body realize what time it is.
Ah, Mr. Tracy! Your work had such an impact on my life 12 years ago as I entered adulthood. I hadn't thought of you in some time, until today, when I was looking up jet lag tips because, thanks in part to your work, I can travel to Europe for a few weeks and not have to worry about a boss, or job or what have you.
This is excellent advice. I never knew a lot of these tips, especially the hot bath. You made this worrisome mom not worry so much about her son when he travels in the next few months. Also, you were NOT boring, haha!! Thank you.
What has worked for me so far is to follow strictly the light patterns of you new time zone and only go to sleep when it's already dark, resisting the temptation, no matter how tired you feel. I also take Melatonin before going to bed, it helps a lot.
Just flew from LA to Anthens, Greece. I wish I could have seen this before. I did not drink enough water on my way to Europe and I did not take a hot shower day one. Day 3 Jet lag kicked in and I was up for 24 hours due to the insomnia. I felt my mouth so parched for days. Definitely going to try these helpful tips on my way back to LA! Thank you.
You are an amazing speaker - impossible not to take your advice! Will check back in after I’ve arrived in London from Melbourne! One of the longest flights so hopefully the bath will do the trick!
Back here after 3 or 4 years since I left my last comment 🙂 I’ve done the hot bath as well as the water and staying up (and melatonin) and I always manage to avoid the worst aspects of jet lag!
Traveled Denver to Spain. Tried the hot bath method and it worked! Felt a bit strange (don't forget to shower after bathing in a hotel bathroom!) Appreciate the tip.
I certainly agree with Water intake, sleep pattern that you mentioned, drinking tea or coffee and a warm shower. I have seen excellent results as your tips are also some of the things I do during my trips. I haven't tried the warm bath and I will certainly add it to my plans next time I fly in a few weeks. I also add 45-60 minute of exercise daily to regulate my body's physical activity and overall timing. At night I take one melatonin (low dose) for a couple of nights to make sure I get full night of rest and usually my jet lag is gone in 48 hours.
1.) I will try and take a "round the world" trip when I have a lot of ground to cover. I travel Westerly. I don't have the "return trip". 2.) Drinking water is super important --thanks Brian. In my high Altitude and Polar training, drinking a liter of water is always the first step for staying well or getting better. A minimum of 4 liters per 24 hours anytime your body is under this kind of stress. 2a.) Drinking plain HOT water can help a lot as well. 3.) I like to arrive in Europe from the East coast of the US in the morning. I take a "Red Thunder" 2 oz B12 (the one sold in Aldis) when I am in the customs/immigration line. I carry the 2 oz "shot" in my liquids bag. I work a normal day just as I arrive and stay up late the first day with dinner. I have no jet lag for the rest of the trip. I often get tired from the extra long hours when I am traveling, but we need to separate the symptoms of jet lag from other things such as tiredness, effects of unfamiliar foods, over drinking, adrenaline side effects, nervousness, stress, etc. Brian, thanks for helping me and my career over the last 20 years.
Excellent Tips. Thank you. Remember People, flying across the country with a 3 hour time change is NOTHING. I regularly fly from Ohio USA to Bangkok Thailand. The most extreme time change possible is a 12 hour time change. If I do nothing special, it takes 2 weeks to adjust. Impossible to stay awake in the daytime. Impossible to sleep at nighttime. I like the tips about ALWAYS leaving the window blinds open, sleeping according to the sun setting, and rising with the Sunrise. That should help alot. I'll try the hot bath tip next time too. 🛀 Caffeine tablet in the morning. Half of a Benedryl caplet at bedtime...... helps.
I like to reset my body time-clock by tracing the acupuncture meridians according to the new timezone that I'm in. Works a treat for shift working too!
Huh. I'll try the bath. My personal stuff: Going east- moving my bedtime earlier beforehand. Practicing good sleeping hygene even if I can't fall asleep. Wake-up cold shower, exercise, getting exhausted. West- opposite, and also resisting sleeping until proper bedtime and hot evening shower. Fasting a day or two and readjusting meal times when I start feeling hungry. Short trips- all bets are off, I just nap as needed when I can, dips into polyphasic.
What about the melatonin pills? Changes on hormone levels? Does hot tub overcome all those scientific proofs? Good tips though, thank you for sharing, I will definitely try them after my next trip.
Great video! Thank you. What would be your suggestion to adjust flying/returning from India with 8 hr lay over in Europe after one month to GA, US to adjust smoothly? Tks
This is a bit confusing. That's okay, a lot of good information. In my experience airlines going from Asia to the States seem to turn off the cabin lights during Asia night which will mess you up when you get to Los Angeles. I'm usually about the only person awake on these flights, open the window shade a bit so you know it's daylight. tip 1: Do your own time zone chart. Airline times are all local and difficult to sort out. There doesn't seem to be any clear charts. (It's easy to remember that China time is LAX -3hrs, am is pm/pm is am... but this won't help you figure out when you should be sleeping and when you should be awake.) Tip 2: re: Brian Tracy's hot bath. (I"m going to definitely try this) He's says if you wait for the second day: you are screwed. This is an important point. I think if you don't do as soon as possible, you'll get jet lag and it will then be more difficult to get rid of. I had two extended Asia trips. Returning China to LA, I was awake for about 36 hours before my Los Angeles bedtime. When I got home I went right to sleep at 11 pm LA time, woke up at 6-7 am the next day. Zero jet lag. But try staying mostly awake for 36 hours. Airport furniture really helps this. (Not going to bed for two dayss is is also a cure for insomnia, getting used to sleeping in different conditions, like camping. Sleeping standing up? takes about 48 hours of no sleep). A seconded extended trip, to Japan I figured I had this dialed in. Nope. Had Jet Lag for a week. The key I think is missing an Asia night's sleep, arriving home exhausted. To do this--pack early. You might be really tired an hour or two before you go to the airport. You don't want to be packing then. Coffee. If you normally drink coffee, then get a double or triple shot espresso, an Americano might be perfect (you need the extra water anyway). To re-set your morning clock: about double the dose of caffeine seems about right--if you can handle it.
I have fever after jet lag what is the cure .I liked your video very much convincing.mira from India .our journey was between Portland and India thank you
Thank you very much Brain for your invaluable advice. Could you also advise for people working in rotational shifts, how they can be productive as the time demands ? I feel the jet lag whenever there is a shift change. I would much appreciate your reply. Thanks in advance.
Hi Mr. Tracy. You mentioned to drink 1 pint of water for every hour of flight. For a 12 hour flight, that's almost 6 liters of water. This might not be doable. Do I drink as much water as possible to replenish the lost fluids in my body during the flight? I get jet lag every time I fly from Southeast Asia to North America.
My flight was 24 hours how many days does it take?! I wake up at 2am and fall asleep at 6pm!!! And we have time change tn in germany so its dark unil 8am and gets dark at 6pm
I go to bed but struggle sleeping while I have not slept for 2 nights. then I sleep at 4 am and tend to continue sleeping until at least noon. But I cannot because I have to work. I reached th EU Sat afternoon and today is Wed and I see very small progress. Still want to sleep from 4 am to 1 PM local. I feel numb, tired, and inefficient. I did not know about the hot bath. So, I missed that part. I am only resisting day time sleep to order myself. It is really annoying to me because I had to start straight working 9 to 5.
Hi Brian! Based on my experience I could say that having a short walk at early morning before going to work on next day after arrival will help you to feel better and feel more energy!
I have a flight coming up next week that I will be traveling from Baltimore, to Denver, to La, to finally Melbourne Australia. Leaving on a monday afternoon and arriving on a Wednesday morning. A total of 24 hours of flying, and hours of layovers between flights. Not sure what I would need to do on this. I would only have 1 1/2 days before my cycling event.
I am flying from California to England, I was going to try to get myself on at least a partial London schedule before the trip, is it better to just do this then?
This weekend i will have 20 hours flight not including time for transit. This is my first time visiting 6hours different time zone place.. I’m still confused about timing drinking coffee? When it’s the best time?
Uhhhh What about people like me,,,,,,with chronic MIGRAINES 😖 and sever cluster headaches 🥺 When ever I fly from Miami to Jordan ( to visit my mother) , they bring the doctor for me ,as soon as I arrive to give me a shot 🤕😰 Please help !
I just arrived in India. I am on second day and missed paying attention to jet leg and missed sleeping on first night n kept talking to a friend. So my body still on US EAST time. What would you suggest to help ?
Great, if you're trying to avoid jet lag....but I'm here because I have jet lag.....I searched "how to cure jet lag". haha Spent 10 days in Poland, can't sleep at night here in Calif.
Help! I'm in Los Angeles, I just got back from a 13 hour flight a day ago, from Turkey. I was in Europe for 15 days, does this mean? I'll take me 13 days to recover? I cannot sleep. 😭
The average length of a female urethra in a female is three inches. Sitting in a bathtub for 40 minutes can predispose to urinary tract infections, so this would not be advisable.
Interesting...if the average human has about 42 LITERS (about 88 pints) of water in their body, why would they die if they lost 6 out of 89 pints? Does 7% make that big of a difference?
Not everybody would die losing 3 liters of water, but sick people, elders, children, pregnant women... could face serious health issues in a few hours flight. Just take into account that it is what a professional runner could sweat in a marathon. And in a 16 hours flight, that would mean losing 8 litters of water, can you imagine? Anyway, my point was that the statement that every hour of flight one pint of water is lost, is exaggerated

I heard that the second you get on the plane, change your watch to the time zone you are going to. It has worked for me!
I learned that from Rick Steves. My parents and I go to Aruba, and once on the plane I immediately change my watch to Aruban time

I agree with you. Staying hydrated helps. I will definitely try the hot water methods. Perhaps drinking hot water with the in flight meal.
Thanks! I forwarded this video to my husband who is a pilot
Just returned from Turkey! No bathtub, beautiful shower though! Going back in March will try!! 😀Thank you

Same advice if traveling from the US to Asia?
I have a 13 hour time change. I’m going to give it a try
A lot was said about flying to Europe from US. Would any of these tips change flying in the opposite direction; LA to Hong Kong for example?
Thanks for sharing your science I'm a goal oriented now because of your wisdom.
How hot should the water be, and will this work at home?
Glad that I watched this video. Thank you
so I did not have the hot bath the first day. I flew from Japan to Toronto . I am messed up what do you suggest ?
What if you are going somewhere without access to a hot bath?
Harry hot shower 😂
Drink hot water otherwise 😂

What if I'm flying to Bangkok but I have a very long layover in tokyo? ...should I take a hot bath in Tokyo and in Thailand?
Thank you very much sir!! Love you

What if your hotel doesn’t have a tub only a shower ? You would probably run out of hot water .
Awesome!
Thank you.

funny though that there was an airplane landing behind while you were talking about jet lag :)
Great, if you're trying to avoid jet lag....but I'm here because I have jet lag.....I searched "how to cure jet lag". haha Spent 10 days in Poland, can't sleep at night here in Calif.
Not to use ur phone or any social media unless feel refreshed
Yeah not all good ideals when you get into your location at 11pm
Help! I'm in Los Angeles, I just got back from a 13 hour flight a day ago, from Turkey. I was in Europe for 15 days, does this mean? I'll take me 13 days to recover? I cannot sleep. 😭
Hey, how are you holding up?
The average length of a female urethra in a female is three inches. Sitting in a bathtub for 40 minutes can predispose to urinary tract infections, so this would not be advisable.
Don't drink any alcohol on board the flight. Eat lightly, preferably vegan or at least lacto-vegetarian.
I tried this last week and it REALLY helped.
.....how I deal with a lag of jettin'.
Customs 🛃 always confiscates water bottle on intl flights
You have to fill it after you go through security
Wanna kick jetlag’s ass? As soon as you arrive get on a treadmill and just Runnnnn. Thank me later
If you lost 1 pint of water for every hour of flight, people would start fainting after 4 hours and dying after 6
