- Today I take a look at the old Rope works Kates Hill Dudley. I walk around inside the old abandoned house and garden and even get the chance to fly the drone above the house getting some great footage, its not a big video as it was spare of the moment thing after i was told about it exisitence. it hides away in the trees an you would easily miss it if you did not know of it.
It is locally known as the rope works although I have seen maps as you will see in the video stating it was a Malthouse in the 1860s, so i think it was aRope factory after this maybe early 20th century. some of the old rope making machines are still in their!
And their are some amazing old features in the house, it really took my breath away Thanks for watching and big thanks to Ricky William for telling about this amazing old building! it really needs saving as its about to fall down!
This was such a beautiful find
I lived on Kates Hill for 8 years during the 90s. and I never knew this was here! Nice find.
i know i never knew either until i spotted on a map

As you walked through the grave yard you passed the "Tipton slasher" (William perry) grave old boxer 👍
I will be making a video on the slasher one day . Got so many projects to do though
@@BlackcountryhistoryhunterBCHH nice one 👍 👌
I love your enthusiasm your Wows It’s absolutely amazing that building such a shame as you say why these things are not brought back as a listing place is such a shock and a shame thank you for showing this before you never know with any luck something or someone will come along and snap this up and save it
It's my pleasure and thank you
Brilliant video! Such a once beautiful home left to decay, its sad.
Ace vid bud!
Glad you enjoyed it
Been in there a few times before it was burnt down I worked in the church and the school house it's still open and run by volunteers got photo of it before it was burnt down inside of the house
i have seen some pics since filming this and it such a shame , beautiful stained glass woodwork all lost it is a real tragedy
Love these videos especially the ones on barrow bank . brilliant .just took early retirement found a old metal detector in the shed so thinking of going over barrow bank any tips.
yes just go and have fun also check out the field behind the old rifle range there 1000s of bullets from the Victorian rifle range if you wanna know where message me or watch the video i made on the range there
Great video buddy xxxxx
Thanks Laura
Great video! And to think it was originally established in 1750 as a "nail manufacturer. ".. crazy.
"Nice documentation & important"
appreciated mate and yes needs saving
Been recommended your channel by Danny Driscoll. Brilliant place this. Trying in vain to find this place on the census. The graveyard you walked through has an interesting headstone of Mary Ann Mason, she was murdered and her headstone names her killer
thanks for watching and yes danny is a good friend of the channel and we often share a brew or a voice message he tells me stuff and do the same for him, join the black country history hunter group and send me a message
Awesome stuff as usual mate.
I was wondering where you were! Thanks for the video 🏴👍
im back and working on big video with several parts on the industry arounf the stourbridge canal, thanks for your support jason
thanks and yes im always happy to meet up with fellow history buffs and discuss history.
Ooooh. That was my old school next to the church
Really love old schools
Great video, thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed that ❤
@@Malibu7070 thanks maz
My old stomping ground. James Whale was born near by. Used to go into that graveyard on Halloweens when very young, was a bit different up there back then.
its sad to see the church, someone said it is being restored, it takes two people to run a church a vicar and a verger and maybe a few of the church goers. its a huge shame im not a church user, but i do like many appreciate the amazing buildings. I feel it will be re-purposed before long. very sad.
Yea, it was better kept by a better generation of people.
Loved the James Whale mention need to promote his week loud and proud 👍👍
Ace as always matey
cheers pal
Great video mate
😮This was my cousins partners house Eric, he was a keen radio am, she ran the cats protection league from here.
yes their where lots of am radio kit about and magazines
I wondered what that house was about at the side of St John’s. Always used to creep me out a bit.
Yes it was creepy
I ❤your passion for the Black Country Matey. We'll have to meet up but we're luddites and don't have Facebook only email 😂❤
Exactly he has such passion and it just shows everyone exactly what it’s like such a shame this building is going to just be forgotten and everything chucked but you have amazing passion love this
Brilliant house I live 2 seconds from there been there many a time 12 months ago it was burnt out a lad died in there on drugs not so long back fascinating place it'll be a shame to knock it down apparently the lady who lived there is buried in st John's graveyard the one you walked through
Yes it's gorgeous
How/where do you get the 1860s maps ?
It was my auntie's house it was a straw factory
wow that's awesome i have a receipt book from their if you want it as your family?
Yes i might be in interested you have to inbox me @BlackcountryhistoryhunterBCHH
it was a rope works not a malt house
Yes eventually but originally it was a malt house in the 1870s became a straw rope works later
This was a straw rope works and still manufactured rope in the 1980's. I remember the house well as it was owned by the family. Such a shame to see what it has become now
Thankyou for the info. That makes sense now. malthouse then straw rope works the rope on the machine felt very straw like. yed it breaks my heart to see historic buildingd being neglected. i hope this video goes some way to bringing it to the attention of people who can help save it, for future generations.
