I was out with work colleagues for lunch in the restaurant of a hotel in Scunthorpe. It’s the 1990’s and we were all having fun, laughing and chatting. A group of workmen were in for their lunch. As the workmen left, one of them passed me a paper napkin that he wrote “wild thing! You make my heart sing” on. I had that napkin taped to the end of my desk for the longest time. That little note made me so happy. I was in a very dark place and Wild Thing made me smile. This song will always have a place in my heart. I wish I could thank that workman.
Really lovely documentry, hearing the origins of Wild Thing is just sooo good and I well recall it being issued all those years ago, great to see Reg talking about it and the effects it had on others. RIP Reg, we are still listening!
So many people had/have an idea that Chip Taylor wrote this. He also wrote "Angel of the Morning". Check Atkins was the one at the studio where he heard Chip's demo and knew the song would be a hit. Chip is also the brother of actor Jon Voight.
To have heard wild thing on the radio for first time then the kinks you really got me,the animals we gotta get out of this place.only happens once in a life time.
One of those numbers which will be forever great. Lead singer Reg Presley hails from the English County Hampshire town of Andover I believe. I was a mere twenty four when this number first appeared in that fabulous 1960s decade. That single guitar intro for me is the most distinctly memorable Rock intro in the known Universe. Those Troggs really nailed that number.
Wild Thing changed EVERYTHING! Any song before was old rock and roll...then came Wild Thing and it unleashed hard rock, metal, punk, psychedelic, new wave, stadium rock and the entirety of rock music for the next 50 years and beyond. No other so g ever had a bigger impact, period. Funny to me, being from the Seattle area, that he also wrote Angel of the Morning. It was a hit for local girl Marilee Rush.
Wild Thing will always remind me of tooling down the Garden State Parkway in the summer of '66 on the way to the Jersey Shore. The song was as hot as the sun and sand on the Seaside, NJ beach.
He took everything to another level, a level that no one has understood or reached yet. Perhaps drug fueled, but why didn't anyone else get there, since they were all taking the same gear??? 🤯🤯🤯🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Was doing sound for Taming Of The Shrew set in the sixties and used a snippet of Wild Thing as a cue to introduce Kate. Kate and Bianca fought together weaving in and out of the audience while the ocarina solo played.
"Wild Thing" is a copy of "Louie Louie" but the lyrics are cool. And Jimi Hendrix played live astounding covers of this song so respect to Chip Taylor and The Troggs...
@@tomcoryell It is different but similar enough to be a possible influence. Personally I can’t think of a tune before Louie Louie w the same chord structure. But plenty after.
1st song I learned on guitar. Thanks Chip but honestly stoked the Troggs version happened cause I'm not sure if I could have listened to it as an acoustic country duo.
I don't think chip taylor ever talks about the Hendrix version. at least not that I know of. it is my favorite. and everyone remembers that guitar going up in flames...even if they don't remember what song it was playing.

Some time when you remove time from the act of creation. When you put pressure on it. A diamond arises. One day to write a song and out comes a hit. Nowadays artists have years to come out with an album and the songs aren't memorable at all. Over produced. Lyrics are meaningless and not catchy. 5 verses. 3 are the same one repeated. Simple. Powerful. Sensual. One day to write a song and a gem is born.
Okay now who can recall seeing The Goodies play Wild Thing in one episode? Weird to consider that the BBC had The Goodies at Adult time after 9 pm and yet ABC TV Australia would play them at the children friendly time of 6.00 pm. Go figure that one out.
they should have had JH in there. Hi Mark, Good to hear from you again. Regarding the gold content of your samples, we did an analysis of just the SIM cards last year, and we came up with around 1500 ppm gold for them (1.5 kg Au/tone SIM cards). Hope it can give you a better idea of what you can expect

There is a rather famous old book by Richard Goldstein "The Poetry of Rock (1969)" in which Wild Thing is given a paragraph analysis. Chip doesn't mention anything about the lyrics, but this is pretty much what Goldstein said as I remember Wild Thing --- taken from graffiti written in the NY subway, "Wild Thing, you make my thing swing." From listening to Chip, it's seems unlikely that he would admit to getting that line from that source. So we'll probably never know for sure.
