Wobble or Runout

  • Burman B52 and CP gearbox clutches and the movement that is commonly observed. Is wobble common.. Yes! Is Wobble acceptable? Yes, within reason.

    I've never looked at the runout using a dial gauge. If I did I would have taken the parts back and complained, but I've fitted new old stock parts that were about this bad. I just thought that's how they were made so it must be ok, and certainly didn't get much worse over the years commuting. The main wear was in the basket slots that did grab the plates and cause drag until I dressed them with a file. I do like the CP and BA boxes. When you set them up right, they are so sweet and smooth.

      Dean, thank you for watching and your thoughtful comments. You are right. There is always some run-out on moving parts. Recognizing the difference between run-out and wobble is important. Wobble will alway cause clutch drag and must be as small as possible.
