As someone who uses an action cam mainly for roadtrips, I picked the Action 3! Key features I considered are great stabilization, reduced wind noise on audio and longer battery life!
Yeah, the Hero 9 was so buggy and glitchy -- it was basically unusable. I can't believe how unreliable GoPro cameras are after 11 generations. You'd think they would have figured it out by now.
I've seen this before and my thoughts remain unchanged. Compared to other stabilization tech on cameras, DJI's Rocksteady is the most effective and solid performer. So it's no surprise for me that the Action3 wins in the comparison here!
For the price and sharpness, Insta360 ONE RS is the best out there. I never trust any gopro after owning 8 and 10 before, so for stabilization I really like Osmo Action 3.
I've never owned an Action Cam so I'm not coming into this with a pre-existing bias. That said, looking at the sample footage, pretty much all the imagery from the DJI seemed sort of mushy to me. I can't say that I was impressed. The Insta360 looked waaay too sharp with noticeable haloing in most of the samples. I was a little surprised to find myself preferring the Hero 11 footage most of the time in this video. That said, I thought the colours from the DJI were generally better, especially in low light. With all of that said, I've been watching video reviews and I get the sense that the GoPro has issues with reliability. Is that true? I also get the sense that the Insta360 probably has the most difficult interface due to its small screen. The other thing that concerns me is how intrusive each camera is when you're setting it up. Do some, or all, of them require registering before they will function? I want to feel like I own the camera rather than the manufacturer owning my data. Finally, there is price. The Insta360 seems like the best value. I'm wondering what others who have used these cameras think. If you were just starting out with an Action Cam, which one would you choose?
The action 3 you have, was that after a firmware update? Because the focus on the action 3 was so off through the fpv and was wondering if you thought the same?
Thanks so much for the comparison. I really want someone to perform better than GoPro, because I hate their design. That said, I see a few issues that are definitely going to turn me away from the One RS. You talk about the sharpening, as if it is a little better, but what I see is that the sharpening radius is WAY to large! There is a very distinct halo around almost everything and in the stills at 2:28, the sharpening has distorted the grass into worm shapes. I see a lot of other issues with the RS and a few less with the Osmo, but, sadly, neither is producing images or video that is as good as the GoPro 11.
thanks for the comparison. I have used cameras from all three companies but it is good to see a direct comparison. It appears to me that go pro still produces the most solid pictures overall. I wish all these cameras solve the camera overheating problem when recording for an hour indoors.
If you are a serious vlogger, gopro heats up very easily which can screw up your recording and you might lose some important shots. Not a good choice for travel vloggers. DJI are better for youtubers

All new careas are good enough. The problem is SW. GoPro cameras are hanging and mobile app is not good. DJI apps does not work on Android, Insta 360 I dont know. The SW for each camera is very important for the product
With DJI you need to register a user account and use it in the app to activate the camera, otherwise it wouldn't even work at all. They say it's to control aftermarket sales. Which, even if it was the one and only reason (and likely is not), would be already plenty crappy as a policy for my taste. Even if they had the best actioncam in the world at the best price, no thanks, I'm good

User have to consider that the insta 360 has only one Display while DJI and GoPro have two Touchscreens. And the price difference between insta and DJI is on the 30 Dollars!
Very helpful content and very detailed coverage.... Which one you will recommend for a live camera streaming.... I am looking for something low light and slow motion streaming. your recommendations will help.
Gopro's biggest problem seems to be that it stops working all the time. Overheating, freezing, crashing, software problems, whatever. Sure, the image quality is pretty good, but what does that help when it cuts out just before the cool moment?
GoPro is good for "action", but average usage it doesn't have anything special to offer vs insta360 1". Also Insta360 is a rather older model, so if they ever decide to upgrade their 1" module like they did with the 4K boost, they can beat GoPro for the average user that just doesn't go skydiving or motocrossing and simply loves to have an action cam style camera for tourism and vlogging outdoors. At 2:28 that photo on Insta360 looks utter garbage, the grass looks like green worms and the leaves look like a Vincent Van Gogh painting. Unless you did some wrong settings the Insta360 should have better clarity in photos due to the larger sensor.
can anyone tell me how much time he spends in post production on his 360 degree camera compared to an action cam osmo 3 or gopro? That's the main thing for me...
Hi I have a very old Gopro 4, and Iwant to upgrade for Easter. I have a budget of max 350euros. In that budget, Ifound the Gopro 9, the DJIAction 3 and the Insta360One RS. I am not interested in 360video, but Ineed a action camera for hiking, skiing, mountain bike and scuba diving. Ihave watched lot of tests, but I am lost because all cameras have their pros and cons. Any advice could be welcomed.
Go pro is old brand and they have 11 generation in the market, but still struggles in many conditions. I will go with DJI and Insta 360 .. DJI is cheap in front of go pro and insta 360 is advanced
The DJI Osmo Action 3 also has the Horizon Steady which works the same way as the Go Pro does where it keeps the image leveled even if you turn the camera 360 degrees. But it will only work if you go down to 2.7k resolution or lower.
Useful video, thanks! I was looking into action cams and forgot about the OneRS. But when searching around, did look at the x3 for a bit though. But for sure the OneRS has got me quite intrigued as either a 1st one or the 2nd one for later. The newer GoPro's look good but the 7/8 black aren't shabby at the slightest either. But since the new DJI is out i'm torn in what to go with yet again, lol.
Yeah, the GoPro is junk. The footage looks great when you can get the damn thing to work. Most of the time it is overheating or locking up the touch screen. I switched to the RS, it is way more reliable

That was a great comparison of video footage. I appreciate the great lengths of detail you provided, where it counts, no fluff. I'm a casual user, not an action user. I like the live preview while recording my previous pocket camera had. I used to have a Hero 8 Black, and that had live preview at 1080p30fps or lower. Do the Action 3 and One RS have live preview and at what settings? Thank you sir!
