As an Oiler fan, I totally feel for you, as I had to live through 11/13 tough years of what the Oilers went through. It felt like forever for them to rebuild and I honestly thought they never would. It really hurts, but someday the Sabres will rise again.

Sabres had similar difficulties and very disconnected with Lehner's health issues. Lehner says openly how bad it was handled, sad to see it happen to Eichel. I feel for you Melody. I know this feeling with the Isles. Your anger shows your love and passion and there will come the light. Sadly waiting sucks. Keep up the hope don't give up.

I really think the final nail in the coffin was Taylor hall. Signed for Eichel, lost his love of hockey, left and recovered. It’s a shame because the Buffalo fans are so admirable, but the management is embarrassing.

Ouch I feel for you as an Oiler fan who had to go through the "Decade of Darkness". Our problem was the management for so long too. I'm new to your channel, and can see that you obviously have an incredible love for the sport and the Sabres. I don't think you should give up on your team, or one of your passions. Are there any other teams that you watch or like? I'm a Red Wings fan and because of their history, I'm lucky that I got to see them when they were still good. But rebuilds and struggles are tough for any fan. Though I'll always be a Wings fan first and I hate to see them lose and miss playoffs, I do really love other teams as well. It definitely helps keep the love for the sport alive. The Sabres will eventually get better, even if it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. But hey, you make good content, and you clearly care about the Sabres and hockey. If that's what you enjoy, then don't let one organization take that away from you. :)

As a Leaf fan, I TOTALLY understand where you are. It’s a TERRIBLE feeling. When you know you can’t just “change” your fandom to another team, but the team you cheer for is a complete dumpster fire, year after year with absolutely NO reason to think that’s gonna change any time soon... Since day one of the Jets returning to Winnipeg, EVERYONE has said that it will be impossible to attract free-agents, and no one will want to sign or be traded to Winnipeg, and it was true. We spent a while just picking up the scraps in free agency, and being on the no-trade list for almost any player that had a clause available. Jet's came in having to fight with one hand tie around their back. While Winnipeg still isn't an super attractive market to a free agent, the organization, from top down has worked their ASS off to show that they give a shit about building something great, and making sure it's sustainable for years after. The hard work from ownership, trusting the process of development, putting a lot into their scouting department, and taking REALLY good care of the players when they are in the organization has helped build a stronger argument for free agents to take a serious look at the Jets in the future. I feel like Buffalo is going in the opposite direction, not making the players feel wanted, gutting the scouting department...and in hand making development of young talent much harder. The ownership and management of the Sabres has failed the team and fanbase in almost ever aspect, to the point where Buffalo is easily the least attractive market right now for free agents, or players that have no-trade clauses. I feel for you and the other fans in Buffalo.

Leafs fan here and I’m so sorry for u and other Sabres fans. Trust that it’ll eventually get better and there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. The rebuilding stage (that seems like it has lasted a million years) won’t last forever and one day it’ll be worth it when u see ur team competitive and with a chance at the cup. I grew up in Florida next to Tampa so I was a Bruins fan before the Lightning came along. I certainly can't relate at the moment to this feeling but I do know one thing. My mood is predicated on how well the Lightning are playing so I can't imagine how Mel feels right now. It really hurts especially right now when Americans are relying on sports and entertainment to escape all the noise of the world these days. The Sabres are like an addict in denial. Until they accept their situation they won't fix anything.

As a local Wisconsin sports fan of my teams (Badgers, Packers, Brewer, Bucks) for my own mental health and sanity as a die-hard, I've had to pull myself away, distance myself and back away a bit from my teams and the whole local sports scene here. Currently with the MLB season on now, I still follow and listen to my Brewers faithfully but i have had to step down my avidness for my own good lol. I know exactly what your going through.
Melody, honestly I have no words other than I'm so sorry. Honestly, every team had ups and downs, but this...my god. This is a lot like Ottawa the last couple years too. This goes so far beyond chirping, or ups and downs and everything. No fan should have to deal with this, especially fans as dedicated as you are. Even though I'm a fan of a rival team, I still hope Buffalo turns this around, and gets competitive in the next couple years, you and the die hards deserve that.
@@wagglewiggle Its top heavy on defensemen which are harder to evaluate than forwards as teenagers. Add in the fact the Sabres fired their scouting department and there wasn't an OHL season... you got a pretty mediocre draft. Even in a stronger 2020 draft, Buffalo reached a bit on Quinn when Rossi and Perfetti were the next two picks.

Hey there, I'm a long-time Leaf fan that stumbled upon your channel. I'm guessing TH-cam decided that misery loves company. I fully get it. I get the anger and frustration and all of that. The best advice I can give you is don't let management ruin your love of the game. Cheer for your team, and someday you'll see them grow and do better. It seems like it'll take forever, and there are going to be bad seasons, maybe worse than this one, but at some point in the future you'll see your team start sailing and all those years of pain and suffering will be worth it. Unless they go out in the first round of the playoffs several years in a row (maybe even this one) but they'll be fun to watch and in the end, that's what's going to matter as a fan.

I wish I could say something to make you and all other Sabres fans feel even a little bit better, but I just don't think that's possible right now. I will say I understand the pain though. As an Avs fan, while they are a very good team now, there were some truly bad Avalanche teams fans had to endure from the 08-09 season all the way through the 16-17 season(I wish I could forget it). I remember thinking similar things to what you brought up in this video especially during that 16-17 season of 48 points(please make the nightmares stop). Duchene wanted out, nobody could score, nobody WANTED to score it seemed, the goalies couldn't stop a beach ball and when they lost 10-1 against the Canadiens I thought, "this is the worst team that has ever existed and I don't even think this is rock bottom." I don't think I watched another Avs game that year. It was just so painful. I sincerely hope the Sabres management, team, everyone finds a way to turn things around 'cause I understand how difficult it is to watch your team drown year after year after year.
I feel your pain. I'm a lifelong Sabres fan living in LA and I am just baffled that they can't figure out how to mix top 8 draft picks the past decade with free agent NHL level talent. I like what you said in the last video that they are a better team than what their record showed in 2021. This team has talent, it just needs to rise to the top. We have had piss pour coaching and the worst GM on the planet. Ownership is a mess and where is our scouting? It's like this team just goes through the motions with no heart and no energy. I really thought that Eichel and Dahlin would be the type of talent you can build championships around. Eichel is needs to clear his head and get healthy and get back to leading this team. His talent, energy and will to win games is enough to get us where we need to be if the rest of the team buys into it. We MUST improve our defense. Skinner is a disgrace. That was a really, really bad signing. I don't think Sam is going to stick it out unless we put together a great season in 2022. This team has been the greatest mystery in all of sports. It's just not possible to be this bad with all of those high draft picks the past 10 years. It's just NOT! Something needs to change. Not sure what it is, but it's not an Eichel trade. What you're describing now is exactly how I felt with the Colorado Rockies over the past year and a half or so. The constant trade rumors about my favorite players made me hate the team, the playoff hopes just kept getting thinner and thinner, and I hated the ownership and GM. The day Nolan Arenado was traded might have been the worst day I've had so far in 2021. They had alienated him to the point where his trade value had diminished, and got very little in return and even went as far as paying $50 million dollars to get him out of Denver. At times I wished I could just stop caring, but the Rockies are a part of my DNA, as I've been a fan my entire life. As this season commenced, I found myself watching only to see what the young kids were able to do. And still, the threat of trading my remaining favorite players still looms. But then something unexpected happened. The GM resigned and the owner decided to step away from baseball operations. That same week, I found myself having fun watching my favorite childhood team. They even won a few games. The Rockies are not good. Not even close. Their few remaining stars will probably be in different jerseys by the deadline. But now that the ownership might be getting fixed, I get to be optimistic again. Maybe the day Jack Eichel gets traded will be the worst day in a long time for Buffalo fans. But I genuinely, genuinely believe that there are better days ahead for the Sabres. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, or maybe I look for patterns that aren't there, but I think the day that the Pegulas step away from hockey operations is in sight. I think the day that you and other Sabres fans will have something to cheer for is closer than you think. Hang in there Melody, we're grateful for what you do.
I feel your pain. As an Oilers fan I watch our first greedy f**k pig of an owner sell off the greatest team that ever played one piece at a time. Then watch as some of those same players run the team into the ground. It was only by the miracle of the draft that we got McDavid and our owner stopped treating the team as a toy. Hang in there, Ballard only owned the Leafs for 30 years.
This is what the Sabres need to do. They need to hire a respected hockey President with full autonomy on hockey decisions. They then need to hire a respected hockey GM with the same full autonomy on hockey decisions. That should get the Pegula’s out of the way for the duration of those contracts. Then they need to back up the Brinks truck and do whatever they can to lure both John Davidson as president and Jeff Gorton as GM who were both just ludicrously fired by the Rangers. Then go back to Eichel and calm the waters. This is what they need to do. The Pegula’s will need to overpay to get respected hockey people to go to Buffalo and clean up their mess. The Leafs did the same thing hiring president Tim Lieweke in 2013, he hired Brendan Shanahan to run the Leafs and Masai Ujiri to run the Raptors. Toronto is a very good NHL team now and the Raptors won a championship. So there is hope, Sabres fans need the Pegula’s to get out of the way and let solid hockey people make the hard decisions.
I remember a couple of years ago when my Ottawa Senators were the joke of the NHL. It looked exactly like this, all the good players asking for trades and it looked like we would be in a rebuild forever. With a little luck and Melnyk leaving his grubby hands off the team, we look to be turning the corner and I'm actually for the first time in a while excited for next year. For Buffalo fans, hopefully this is the worst it gets and like Ottawa, it will start getting better. The problem is Ottawa's rebuilt took 3 years, Buffalo is on year 11.

I'm a HUGE Bills and Sabres fan. My father was too. I went through the 17 year drought. Every game. Every season. Bad gms. Bad coaches. Bad fa. Bad draft choices. It was bleak. My father went through the 70s where we had one of the greatest rbs of all time and made the playoffs...once. In both instances we thought let's check in. This is nuts. The heartbreak. The tears. The money spent and wasted. I feel you Mel. It sucks. The Sabres suck right now. But I still love them. Sometimes love isn't pretty. It can get brutal. The darkest part of the night is right before the dawn. My dad got to see the Bills beat Miami in 1980 after a decade of heartbreak. And I was there on that New Year's Eve miracle in 2017. When the Sabres end this stupid drought we can, as die hard Sabres fans, can say we were there and we gutted it out through this bloody mess. Let's go Buffalo!

I legitimately feel bad. The Buffalo fans are so devoted, and the management seems determined to alienate the players, make the franchise as untenable as possible, and anger the fanbase beyond belief. Look at how Taylor Hall looks now that he’s on that Boston 2nd line and far away from this team. It’s systemic and the rot goes deep. You deserve better.
The fans aren't devoted. They jump ship at the first sign of adversity. They bash the team for any loss, and berate the entire team for any mistake. Why would anyone want to play here? There's a reason why we've never had a championship here other than the bandits. The population here drags down the winning spirit.

It's the complete different level of owner control and involvement between the two franchises. In my opinion I feel like one franchise is focused on their profitability and value over team success. Regardless of who is playing for either team the day to day staff and upper management is what sets the tone, and having individuals with no experience or no winning at even lower levels doing important jobs is the main problem.
I know your pain Melody. This is such a tough spot for them. I hope things work out better than it feels like it will. I'm pulling for the Sabres, solely because I think Sabres fans, and especially you in particular, deserve to have a good team.
We don't need new ownership we just need the Pegula's to take a step back, realize what they've let happen is unacceptable, and get more experienced people in to start making hockey decisions.

I genuinely feel for ya. I'm in Pittsburgh and I vividly remember the horrific pre-Mario days of 1967-1983. Our export to Buffalo, Jason Botterill, was a titanic failure. I like the Sabers and hope your ownership can get it together. (I feel the same way about the Pittsburgh Pirates, who haven't been relevant for the past 3 decades!)

Sabres had similar difficulties and very disconnected with Lehner's health issues. Lehner says openly how bad it was handled, sad to see it happen to Eichel. I feel for you Melody. Ouch I feel for you as an Oiler fan who had to go through the "Decade of Darkness". Our problem was the management for so long too. Here's hoping by some miracle Buffalo has a amazing year out of nowhere and can at least get close to a playoff spot and give the fans and players something to look forward to.

I'm new to your channel, and can see that you obviously have an incredible love for the sport and the Sabres. I don't think you should give up on your team, or one of your passions. Are there any other teams that you watch or like? I'm a Red Wings fan and because of their history, I'm lucky that I got to see them when they were still good. But rebuilds and struggles are tough for any fan. Though I'll always be a Wings fan first and I hate to see them lose and miss playoffs, I do really love other teams as well. It definitely helps keep the love for the sport alive. The Sabres will eventually get better, even if it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. But hey, you make good content, and you clearly care about the Sabres and hockey. If that's what you enjoy, then don't let one organization take that away from you. :)

Since day one of the Jets returning to Winnipeg, EVERYONE has said that it will be impossible to attract free-agents, and no one will want to sign or be traded to Winnipeg, and it was true. We spent a while just picking up the scraps in free agency, and being on the no-trade list for almost any player that had a clause available. Jet's came in having to fight with one hand tie around their back.
While Winnipeg still isn't an super attractive market to a free agent, the organization, from top down has worked their ASS off to show that they give a shit about building something great, and making sure it's sustainable for years after.
The hard work from ownership, trusting the process of development, putting a lot into their scouting department, and taking REALLY good care of the players when they are in the organization has helped build a stronger argument for free agents to take a serious look at the Jets in the future.
I feel like Buffalo is going in the opposite direction, not making the players feel wanted, gutting the scouting department...and in hand making development of young talent much harder. The ownership and management of the Sabres has failed the team and fanbase in almost ever aspect, to the point where Buffalo is easily the least attractive market right now for free agents, or players that have no-trade clauses.

The rebuilding stage (that seems like it has lasted a million years) won’t last forever and one day it’ll be worth it when u see ur team competitive and with a chance at the cup. I grew up in Florida next to Tampa so I was a Bruins fan before the Lightning came along. I certainly can't relate at the moment to this feeling but I do know one thing. My mood is predicated on how well the Lightning are playing so I can't imagine how Mel feels right now. It really hurts especially right now when Americans are relying on sports and entertainment to escape all the noise of the world these days. The Sabres are like an addict in denial. Until they accept their situation they won't fix anything.

As a local Wisconsin sports fan of my teams (Badgers, Packers, Brewer, Bucks) for my own mental health and sanity as a die-hard, I've had to pull myself away, distance myself and back away a bit from my teams and the whole local sports scene here. This goes so far beyond chirping, or ups and downs and everything. No fan should have to deal with this, especially fans as dedicated as you are. Add in the fact the Sabres fired their scouting department and there wasn't an OHL season... you got a pretty mediocre draft. Even in a stronger 2020 draft, Buffalo reached a bit on Quinn when Rossi and Perfetti were the next two picks.

Hey there, I'm a long-time Leaf fan that stumbled upon your channel. I'm guessing TH-cam decided that misery loves company. I fully get it. I get the anger and frustration and all of that. The best advice I can give you is don't let management ruin your love of the game. Cheer for your team, and someday you'll see them grow and do better. It seems like it'll take forever, and there are going to be bad seasons, maybe worse than this one, but at some point in the future you'll see your team start sailing and all those years of pain and suffering will be worth it.
Unless they go out in the first round of the playoffs several years in a row (maybe even this one) but they'll be fun to watch and in the end, that's what's going to matter as a fan.

I wish I could say something to make you and all other Sabres fans feel even a little bit better, but I just don't think that's possible right now. I will say I understand the pain though. As an Avs fan, while they are a very good team now, there were some truly bad Avalanche teams fans had to endure from the 08-09 season all the way through the 16-17 season(I wish I could forget it). I remember thinking similar things to what you brought up in this video especially during that 16-17 season of 48 points(please make the nightmares stop). Duchene wanted out, nobody could score, nobody WANTED to score it seemed, the goalies couldn't stop a beach ball and when they lost 10-1 against the Canadiens I thought, "this is the worst team that has ever existed and I don't even think this is rock bottom." I don't think I watched another Avs game that year. It was just so painful.
I sincerely hope the Sabres management, team, everyone finds a way to turn things around 'cause I understand how difficult it is to watch your team drown year after year after year.

I feel your pain. I'm a lifelong Sabres fan living in LA and I am just baffled that they can't figure out how to mix top 8 draft picks the past decade with free agent NHL level talent. I like what you said in the last video that they are a better team than what their record showed in 2021. This team has talent, it just needs to rise to the top. We have had piss pour coaching and the worst GM on the planet. Ownership is a mess and where is our scouting? It's like this team just goes through the motions with no heart and no energy. I really thought that Eichel and Dahlin would be the type of talent you can build championships around. Eichel is needs to clear his head and get healthy and get back to leading this team. His talent, energy and will to win games is enough to get us where we need to be if the rest of the team buys into it. We MUST improve our defense. Skinner is a disgrace. That was a really, really bad signing. I don't think Sam is going to stick it out unless we put together a great season in 2022. This team has been the greatest mystery in all of sports. It's just not possible to be this bad with all of those high draft picks the past 10 years. It's just NOT! Something needs to change. Not sure what it is, but it's not an Eichel trade. Unless we get an absolute Kings Ransom, which Buffalo will probably screw up anyway. Ughhh... did I mention I feel your pain! Appreciate your channel and insight. Keep it up. What you're describing now is exactly how I felt with the Colorado Rockies over the past year and a half or so. The constant trade rumors about my favorite players made me hate the team, the playoff hopes just kept getting thinner and thinner, and I hated the ownership and GM. The day Nolan Arenado was traded might have been the worst day I've had so far in 2021. They had alienated him to the point where his trade value had diminished, and got very little in return and even went as far as paying $50 million dollars to get him out of Denver. At times I wished I could just stop caring, but the Rockies are a part of my DNA, as I've been a fan my entire life. As this season commenced, I found myself watching only to see what the young kids were able to do. And still, the threat of trading my remaining favorite players still looms.
But then something unexpected happened. The GM resigned and the owner decided to step away from baseball operations. That same week, I found myself having fun watching my favorite childhood team. They even won a few games. The Rockies are not good. Not even close. Their few remaining stars will probably be in different jerseys by the deadline. But now that the ownership might be getting fixed, I get to be optimistic again.
Maybe the day Jack Eichel gets traded will be the worst day in a long time for Buffalo fans. But I genuinely, genuinely believe that there are better days ahead for the Sabres. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, or maybe I look for patterns that aren't there, but I think the day that the Pegulas step away from hockey operations is in sight. I feel your pain. As an Oilers fan I watch our first greedy f**k pig of an owner sell off the greatest team that ever played one piece at a time. Then watch as some of those same players run the team into the ground. It was only by the miracle of the draft that we got McDavid and our owner stopped treating the team as a toy. Hang in there, Ballard only owned the Leafs for 30 years.
This is what the Sabres need to do. They need to hire a respected hockey President with full autonomy on hockey decisions. They then need to hire a respected hockey GM with the same full autonomy on hockey decisions. That should get the Pegula’s out of the way for the duration of those contracts. Then they need to back up the Brinks truck and do whatever they can to lure both John Davidson as president and Jeff Gorton as GM who were both just ludicrously fired by the Rangers. Then go back to Eichel and calm the waters. This is what they need to do. The Pegula’s will need to overpay to get respected hockey people to go to Buffalo and clean up their mess. The Leafs did the same thing hiring president Tim Lieweke in 2013, he hired Brendan Shanahan to run the Leafs and Masai Ujiri to run the Raptors. Toronto is a very good NHL team now and the Raptors won a championship. So there is hope, Sabres fans need the Pegula’s to get out of the way and let solid hockey people make the hard decisions.

I remember a couple of years ago when my Ottawa Senators were the joke of the NHL. It looked exactly like this, all the good players asking for trades and it looked like we would be in a rebuild forever. With a little luck and Melnyk leaving his grubby hands off the team, we look to be turning the corner and I'm actually for the first time in a while excited for next year. For Buffalo fans, hopefully this is the worst it gets and like Ottawa, it will start getting better. The problem is Ottawa's rebuilt took 3 years, Buffalo is on year 11.

I'm a HUGE Bills and Sabres fan. My father was too. I went through the 17 year drought. Every game. Every season. Bad gms. Bad coaches. Bad fa. Bad draft choices. It was bleak. My father went through the 70s where we had one of the greatest rbs of all time and made the playoffs...once. In both instances we thought let's check in. This is nuts. The heartbreak. The tears. The money spent and wasted. I feel you Mel. It sucks. The Sabres suck right now. But I still love them. Sometimes love isn't pretty. It can get brutal. The darkest part of the night is right before the dawn. My dad got to see the Bills beat Miami in 1980 after a decade of heartbreak. And I was there on that New Year's Eve miracle in 2017. When the Sabres end this stupid drought we can, as die hard Sabres fans, can say we were there and we gutted it out through this bloody mess. Let's go Buffalo!

I legitimately feel bad. The Buffalo fans are so devoted, and the management seems determined to alienate the players, make the franchise as untenable as possible, and anger the fanbase beyond belief. Look at how Taylor Hall looks now that he’s on that Boston 2nd line and far away from this team. It’s systemic and the rot goes deep. You deserve better.
The fans aren't devoted. They jump ship at the first sign of adversity. They bash the team for any loss, and berate the entire team for any mistake. Why would anyone want to play here? There's a reason why we've never had a championship here other than the bandits. The population here drags down the winning spirit.

As a Leafs fan I feel your pain..at 53 I have suffered through some shitty leafs teams..Finally I have something to cheer about and hopefully you will to..but Steve dangle can probably relate more..and I'm glad he kept going even when the leafs sucked it gave us die hards a person who felt the same way..good luck with the owners...

It's the complete different level of owner control and involvement between the two franchises. In my opinion I feel like one franchise is focused on their profitability and value over team success. Regardless of who is playing for either team the day to day staff and upper management is what sets the tone, and having individuals with no experience or no winning at even lower levels doing important jobs is the main problem.
I think the Pegulas simply let the football people they hired do their jobs with the Bills, while they are more hands on with the Sabres
I know your pain Melody. This is such a tough spot for them. I hope things work out better than it feels like it will. I'm pulling for the Sabres, solely because I think Sabres fans, and especially you in particular, deserve to have a good team.

I understand your frustration. I've been a Leafs fan for most of my life and it's only been the past few years where they've actually started playing good hockey. I'm just hoping this year that they can break the curse and get past the first round of the playoffs.

I genuinely feel for ya. I'm in Pittsburgh and I vividly remember the horrific pre-Mario days of 1967-1983. Our export to Buffalo, Jason Botterill, was a titanic failure. I like the Sabers and hope your ownership can get it together. (I feel the same way about the Pittsburgh Pirates, who haven't been relevant for the past 3 decades!)

As a Wings fan i feel so bad for Sabre's fans. We aren't amazing but atleast we have a bright future with Steve Yzerman building the team. Hard to be excited about anything with the Sabre's.
