If you are into advanced delay settings and U2 sound I can recomend the "Providence Chrono" delay. It lets you dial in BPM OR Msec and has a control to directly select 1/2, 1/4, dotted 8 and more.
another good tip to remember to get Edge's sound are the picks he uses. Herdim blue(heavy) picks played with the dimpled side to get those classic ringing chimes. But you're spot on with the dotted 8th notes. Cheers!
Steve, Thank you very much!!! Yes i am talking about L&M Guitar Course! It is very helpful. You are humblest guitar player and teacher i have ever seen. May God bless you abundantly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ricky
I'm not from Ireland and haven't met the Edge. Your video was very good :-) Could you give some rough idea of the delay time in milliseconds to get those effects.
very useful!! I am a beginning player so I can't make much music but I can make some cool sounds with the couple pedals I have added recently. I take lessons through a program at the Dept. of Veterans Affairs called Guitars for Vets and it is an awesome programs that gives vets such as myself a therapy program that helps me focus and get my brain working a bit better!! Guitars and music are helpful to me because its like you cant make any mistakes maybe I wanted it to sound that way and I can make my own "sound." Thanks to all those guitarists out there that post these awesome videos!!
Dear Steve, Would you please tell me where this course will take me? after finish this course would i able to play songs on guitar? would i able to find chords for songs by myself and play?
Hi Steve, Something I've been searching for and haven't found anywhere, is advice/demos on when and where to use various effects. That is, I'm playing a song and I want to add something to it, but I don't know if I should add distortion, harmony, reverb, a combination, etc. and where in the song to use the effects for best results. For someone new to effects that can be a challenge, and trial and error could literally take forever given all the different pedals available. Thanks!
Have you listened to the end of streets live? after he plays the last note there is only 2 audible repeats. Same with most U2 songs. Since Edge doesn't use palm muting as much with delay as other guitarists do he needs to have less repeats to avoid the overflow of notes. Check the U2guitartutorials guy as well as various websites detailing The Edge's particular use of delay. With the exception of the Fly with the infinite delay bit Dotted 8ths don't work very well with more than 3 repeats.
Who did Brian 'steal it from? Everyone learns from someone. It's what you do with it that counts and the Edge builds amazing emotion that Eno never has on guitar.
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover online guitar course try Grathaw Guitar Playing Expert (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.
Another thing that Edge does he knows his delays timing against his own playing timing, no one else on this planet can playback with delays in almost perfect synch like he does. I have played for years and it took a few years to listen to the delay and not my guitar playing. If you listen to what you are playing you are already lost. Edge has big feedback delay repeats so he can hear and prepare his next attack usually you set this at 1 main reapeat at 100% then others less. Edge knows delays.
It's probably because they need to keep it in frame for viewers to see. Notice how almost all tutorial videos have the teacher sitting down which brings the guitar to the same height as in this video.
That's completely backwards. Drummers never follow guitar players. Guitar players can set the initial tempo (though that's not what U2 does, as many others have pointed out, since Larry Mullen, Jr. uses preset click tracks), but after the initial tempo, the guitar has to follow the drums. The drummer is the timekeeper. Nothing sounds worse than if a guitar player is slowing down and speeding up and the drums try to follow. No -- if the drummer speeds up, everybody else has to.
A very simplified version of exploring delay. No mention of actual milliseconds or timing. You act like there's only quarter notes or eighth notes and that's how it explains all the different rhythms and all of music. I mean if you're starting out in your first month of playing, I guess this would help, but anyone else in the pro field is laughing at this
A tip; A Boss ME-80 is only a fraction more, but you get these delay options plus a complete pedalboard, prorgrammability, usb interface and much more. If you are creative, that unit should last you a long time and save you money! I was looking at the dual tap, but ended at the ME-80 well pleased. - Great video BTW!
Good delays are going to cost you. Visual Sound's closest competitors (Hungry Robot Moby Dick and T.C. Electronic's various dual- and triple-delays) are all over $200, too. It's not cheap, but it's an investment; can't think of anything more useful for ambient music or for solos in any genre. The BOSS Digital Delay might be less, though, and is still decent.
watch this vid oMWdLtruKIQ and time 4:30 and count repeats for streets preset ;) ofcourse after third repeat they slowly fade away. Nevermind, its different for each song anyway.
So are you saying that the click is a note followed by repeats? Good grief. The band plays to the drummer. Period. Larry is the anchor onstage. Why do you think when Edge played with Muse at Glastonbury they used U2's backing track for Streets? Because unless the Muse drummer used exactly the same click track that Larry does, Edge would have no possible way of keeping his delay in time, without modifying his delay bpms, which of course is possible but easier is just to use Larrys click
Nice tone! If you want to hear an original track recorded with lots of delay please check our 'denial of a million angels on my channel' Appreciate and comments/feedback. Thanks!
forget the Edge..... how good does that make Larry Mullen Jnr???! the drummer has to follow the guitar player! and not just the notes, but the repeats as well!!
No. Edge times his delay bpm according to the tempo of the song. Larry is drumming to a click, not to The Edge's delay! Everyone follows Larry. Period. If The Edge's delay is a bit off, he won't be able to keep proper time with the band. He will set his delay accordingly, not the other way around. Listen to any IEM recording of U2 playing. They're playing to the click that Larry plays to.
If you are into advanced delay settings and U2 sound I can recomend the "Providence Chrono" delay. It lets you dial in BPM OR Msec and has a control to directly select 1/2, 1/4, dotted 8 and more.
This is the best quality 480p video i've ever seen ! 10 years old too !
Man how I love delay effects!!! Use it a lot on my «electronic sounding» guitar songs!
another good tip to remember to get Edge's sound are the picks he uses. Herdim blue(heavy) picks played with the dimpled side to get those classic ringing chimes. But you're spot on with the dotted 8th notes. Cheers!

Another legendary guitar player that played like that was the late, great Jeff Healy
Finally, now I understand that delay issue I've been having! Thanks!
We give you a tip for this month... most of the times Edge delay is mixture of both 4 and .8 also with a little bit of modulation.
I'm not from Ireland and haven't met the Edge.
Your video was very good :-)

Nice necklace you have on!
Cheers sir.
Thanks for this lovely video.
keep it up
Listen to this guy
Dang that sounds cool. And nice Cort LP style! Beautiful!
Dear Steve,
Would you please tell me where this course will take me? after finish this course would i able to play songs on guitar? would i able to find chords for songs by myself and play?
What is your feedback knob set on and just as a base line, what's your bpm's set at? Thanks
Hello, so does the delay U2 ping pong to left and right speakers on the PA system?
Thanks
hey could u tell me what is the disto u r playing in this video ??? thanks a lot .
Just doing some U2 stuff ATM. Thanks for the tips :)

Nice playing Steve and Great looking guitar! What is it Gibson Custom Shop....
This is awesome
thanks for sharing. btw can this be done in a multi fx pedal with no dual delay function?
if i were to use both sides as a parallel set up, will i need to use two amps ?
Great lesson, thanks!
Great Video! What exact delay times are these?
I almost bought that guitar but then I ended up with a 68 reissue custom. Kinda wish I had played that one a little more but what can ya do
What amp do you use? It has nice sound.
Great video.
That was great, man, thanks for sharing.
Great man! I think he uses an electroharmonix memoryman.
Pro tip: you can watch series at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies lately.
@Finley Eugene Yea, I have been using Flixzone for months myself :D
Great lesson! Thank you!
Edge is a Genius!
I have flashback delay, it is awesome
Excellent!
omg this is a very useful video thanks a lot !!

wow that is one beautiful guitar is it a Gibson of some kind ? Peace !
Who did Brian 'steal it from? Everyone learns from someone.
It's what you do with it that counts and the Edge builds amazing emotion that Eno never has on guitar.
good and interesting thanks
Hie Steve, you have a very beautifull guitar. A gibson Les Paul Supreme is the way to go
Thanks Steve God bless!
Seriously, that's some nice tone.
Thanks!
I would pay lots of money for guitar lessons from this guy...
good information.... thanx
Great Vid
thanks!
nice video
I like his inlays
That's really cool!
its seems to me at least 90% of songs use delay. Must be an essential pedal along with distortion
so this is how AVA sounds..
+MrDjambronk 3:53 , Everything's magic.
Every Christian worship song
Yep lol. Mainstream Christian music sounds very much like U2's music, especially Edge's guitar.
KSJDbv I think it works sometimes but yeah, the lyrics of mainstream Christian music aren't nearly as deep or honest as U2's lyrics.
Man I been saying that for years!!
Truth!
Can you guys name a few mainstream christian bands? Thanks in advance
3:08 sounds awesome
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover online guitar course try Grathaw Guitar Playing Expert (should be on google have a look ) ? Ive heard some great things about it and my work buddy got amazing results with it.

Fala muito !
cool

For what it's worth, the classic Edge delay is set to 3/16th notes. Intense study of his use of delay here: amnesta.net/edge_delay/
That's more AvA sound than U2 no ?
Tom from AVA is inspired by The Edge and created his own signature style
disagree. 2-4 repeats maximum. type "Edge It might get loud deleted scene", and you'll see.
That guitar is so high that it might as well be a violin...
It's probably because they need to keep it in frame for viewers to see. Notice how almost all tutorial videos have the teacher sitting down which brings the guitar to the same height as in this video.
Guy should really invest in a chin rest.
It says Gibson on the headstock, bro.
that's playing to a click track..... every gig!!!! stupendous effort.

At what point is this supposed to sound like U2’s edge because I couldn’t hear it and I’ve listened to U2 since I was a teenager.
I don't think that guy gets how comfortable it is for your fret hand when your strap's up high...
Why are you on pijama?
Gee if I could only buy that delay. It's $250, well next video....
Dude u can get a mxr carbon copy for for about 150$ with taxes around 174. It might seem expensive but it's one of the best analog pedal u could buy

Thanks so much to Kyle Gass's twin brother
Lol I thought this guy was k G lol

Step 1 for that sound: throw away the Gibson and get a strat.
Nowyouknow wtf?
If you wear your guitar that high....I guess your pants resemble Urkel.
When playing U2 songs have only 1 or 2 repeats, 5 is way to much
Nice tone! If you want to hear an original track recorded with lots of delay please check our 'denial of a million angels on my channel' Appreciate and comments/feedback. Thanks!

Unless he is a God fearing believer, these blessings mean nothing for a non Christian...but yes I wish him well also!!
Dotted eight + quarter note delay = Hillsong 😂
This sounds nothing like the Edge's playing. And why the eff are you playing it on a Gibson? Ugh.
that is not truth, actually 90% of U2 songs needs 4 - 8 repeats
its kermit the frog hahaha
I'm from Ireland and have met the Edge. Your all wrong
Sorry u took tuk long tu get tu the point ....I've left n went tu the real guy 😱
Harvey Weinstein?!
Yup that sounded really shit just like the edge
Crap. That IS a gibson. I look stupid
The Edge stole it from Brian Eno. Not that I blame him, but give credit where credit is due.
