I can see why this wasn't popular, i mean if the witch hadn't interfered beyond killing George, Barbie would still have been ok, and a bunch of people would still be alive!
Yeah, but she isn't capt hindsight and thought she could save barbie so her intentions were good
deaths brief moments in these stories are always a favourite of mine, even if the individual had a sad life, she's always there to comfort and care, she's a good cap-off for emotional beats
I know I say this for many of the series you cover Danny, but this is seriously my favorite series you’ve covered.
I have always wanted to read The Sandman and I’m so thankful you are covering this! I had no idea what it was about and I absolutely love it!
I loved Thessaly. A lot of this was about people being more than what they seem. From judgements on Wanda in being transgender to Thessaly in her fluffy robe and slippers being an ancient badass witch and Barbie’s makeup etc

I've actually owned the chair for over a year. But I always swap it out when I'm on camera cause it's so big. But I didn't feel like it this week, I wanted to stay comfortable. It's a great chair. I recommend it. This is where I bought it (secretlabchairs.ca/). For just like $25 or so more, I had the option of getting a version with a Batman logo on it, so I went with the Batman option.

Ok so Thessaly is the last of the Thessalian Witches who were Greek witches said to be very powerful and could coerce and bind the gods. One of their most famous spells was “drawing down the moon” which is what we see here.
In her recitation she mentions that there is no one to distract the moon with cymbals which was said to counter the witch’s spells.
Narratives of these witches come up in a few places but most notably The Golden Ass: Being the Metamorphoses of Lucius Apuleius

I love your series! This volume was the first Sandman trade I ever picked up. Or maybe my sister gave it to me? It was my introduction--and whoof, so confusing! So I only had a little pause when Thessaly was alleged to have been in a relationship with Morpheus earlier. It took me ages to straighten out the timeline and reason that this is the first time they'd "met."

I think I can see why this was one of the more unpopular volumes; its because its so distant from the series, compared to other volumes. Morpheus and his dream world barely features until the end, and instead we focus on this completely new cast of weird characters. Sandman is already a weird, wild, and high-concept enough book as it is, so this utter shake-up really throws off even loyal readers and fans of this series, because the sense of consistency isn't here as much and makes thongs seem even more alien
No...it actually sets the ending of the book up
I personally didn't mind this one. Worlds end however, I struggled on that one. Kindly ones was really good! A bit heart breaking too

Volume 3 was also an "anthology" where the Sandman and other Endless were merely framing devices, at most showing up to give some exposition to the actual protagonists. This is no different.
Some people complain about story arcs where you barely see Morpheus, or that there's hardly any action at all in the series but that's the point: Sandman has never been a superhero comic. It's more a meditation on how dreams pervade everything and help shape reality.
Neil Gaiman openly admits that this early in his career, he wasn't sure he could write superheroes, and didn't really want to. Story-telling, fleshing out characters, that's always been more his thing. And world-building a realm and universe of dreams opened up possibilities he enjoyed. 😉

It was once stated a long time ago that each volume alternated between traditionally male (odd numbers) and female (even numbers) type stories. Alternating between physical action driven and emotional character driven stories. The princess fairy tail aesthetic may have turned off some of the more insecure comic fans despite the grim and gritty take on the genre.

Only thing was I was confused by why the apartment collapses or exolodes.
When Thessaly called down the moon to talk to it, it messed with the weather. The moon effects tides and stuff. So by Thessaly messing with the moon, it brought a huge storm or hurricane to descend on New York City. The storm is what destroyed the apartment.

This album, it seams to me exposes the female dark side, much more than it is a festival of femininity, as females beeing the good ones. The characters, they are all pretty crooked.

It felt as if the entire episode was all about making sure everyone understood Alvin didnt want to be a guy but still was attached to his peepee- the only other guy not trans was a freakin horror show creature haha It made me think that Alvin was Wanda as much to try and fit in somewhere as it was about being a woman which wasnt a perfect fit either but the best at the time

A lot of the comics I covered, happen to have white characters as the lead, but a lot still do have black representation. Y The Last Man had Agent 355. American Vampire has Calvin Poole. Criminal Volume 3 primarily featured two black characters as leads. I also covered a Blade vs Wolverine comic that was pretty cool.

There is another black creator owned book called Bitter Root, that is being adapted into a movie, so I do want to try and cover that someday as well.

Born male, but lived and died as a female.
Which brings up the question if it's what the remaining family wants that dictates how the deceased is presented or if it's what the deceased wants that matters. Wanda may have been born a man but chose to live as a woman so Wanda's family presenting Wanda's body as a god fearing man with short hair and a suit is deceptive. They were more concerned with how their child would be perceived than who their child really was.
If wanda never got a legal name change I understand that the birth name would be used on the tombstone though.
The haircut and the suit were just a dick move. It's the opposite of what wanda wanted and the opposite of how wanda lived.
It's like being ashamed of your goth daughter and then putting her in a yellow dress in her coffin. Or hating your mother and then putting her in a purple suit because you know she hates the color purple and wants to be buried in a dress.
It's not about "but he was born a man", it's about respecting how someone lived and their wishes.
