This might just be what i’ll replace my ts100 with. I’ve had some terrible experiences with battery powered soldering irons, but this thing seems decently made. Thanks for the teardown :D
I think it would be smarter if the UI was on the pen and the base was just for charging. Then you wouldn't need bluetooth, and you could also use the pen alone for about 5 minutes completely without access to power, like a gas pen.
Thanks for the review, looks quite nice! I don't think it will replace my Hakko, but I can see it being useful in some situations where a cord would be in the way (i.e. soldering something deep up under the dash of a car)
Too big for me, i'm a weller micro pencil user myself. best soldering iron i''ve ever used. And mine is only half weller, i had to build the controller myself.
Your formula is wrong. The energy available in a capacitor is C*U2²/2. From the datasheet Umax is 3.8V and Umin is 2.2V, so the usable energy is (Umax²-Umin²)*C/2 = 3600J or 1Wh. In Ah: (Umax-Umin)*C/3600 = 0.33Ah. Multiply this with the average voltage of 3V you get again 1Wh.
I don't fully understand your comment. Is it wrong to show a tool that is actually cool? Yes I got it for free and the video is a commercial. But I didn't say anything that is not true. And if I would find a problem, I would clearly communicate it. I can't see an integrity problem in any way.
What is this for? If your space station compute core gets holed by a micrometeorite and you need to do an EVA to make emergency repair at component level?
Yeah for example... Or if you have to solder something in your car or motorbike. I used a gas powered soldering iron for that but electric is much better.
Thank you for this , I was needing a tutorial on how it works
Very clever design.
I would get one if I didn't have four soldering irons.
Thank you for the review and the teardown

And the good thing is, if the supercap fails, you can easily replace it because it's not soldered.

You can use the pen alone. It has an on/off switch and goes to full heat if the base is off

Thought I was going to see some "Play(ing) with Junk"
Very cool, but I see one thing they kind of failed with. It should be able to be used on the go without power to the base.
It is usable without the base. You can push the button and it will turn on at full heat. Of course that's only working for a few minutes.
@@PlaywithJunk cool. That's was what I had in mind if I were on the move and had to do a few solder joints in an emergency.
Interesting soldering iron. I wonder how long spare tips will remain available.
Yeah that's always a problem with proprietary designs. Best practice would be to buy spares immediatly and hope the rest lasts forever 🙂
can it accidentally turn itself on in a drawer and burn everything?
First!
Fun fact - the instruction is in two languages, English and Russian :)
Chinese is not a language?

As I said in the video, I was not sure if the formula was correct. Thank you for re-calculating the numbers 🙂
Fascinating to see how little cash people will sell their integrity for these days.

@@PlaywithJunkit must be because you didnt say that millisecond quote of "other brands available"
