Man I love this song......I don't think there has ever been any Rock star that was loved by his fans more than Tom Petty......he was OURS and he made sure we knew it.....he loved to play , write , sing , perform........never fake...ever....
@glby6904 RIght, and dig it; he kept on the road with a deteriorating hip for his fans. He had to load himself up with Oxycodone (hell, I do that me self), h, fentanyl. It was an Accident that took him, he didn't want to leave, which makes it all the more heartbreaking...no pun intended.
He's been on my mind a lot lately so I started work on a song about Tom. I was piddling around with a guitar tryin to get the melody that I've been hearing. My wife came out asked about the melody then she asked me to do "it's good to be king" it blew my mind this music in my head it has to be a song about Tom. She and I love his music and today was the first time in a while she ask me to play one of his songs. Kismet , karma preordained I don't know. I've been mad at him since he passed and don't know why, maybe this'll cure me. Don't care if another soul hears it it'll help me..RIP TOM GBNF !!
One of my most favorite of all Tom Petty's songs. God. He just knew how to put those words together and then how to sing them. What a talent we lost. I could listen to this song over abc over and over again. In fact, I do.
I play and sing this song on guitar, but I can never get through it without tearing up at some point. WHEW! What a presence and a great artist!! Gone too soon.
this is my favourite tom petty song ever pity he doesnt play it live anymore but i guess the lyrics tell the story can only find it on one album also go tom you rock mate!!
Such a shame he didn't play it live anymore. One of his absolute BEST. For sure. Those lyrics.... The way he sings them.... You can just feel the pain. What a talent the world lost when we lost Tom Petty... :(
So this was 1999 ? Almost 21 yrs ago. Wow. How the years fly. So after his divorce ? Had he already met (or married) Dana at this point ?). I love to watch these various clips and relate them to what was happening in Tom’s life at that exact time. Just something I like to do .. :). He is, always was, such a relatable guy, so very human. I guess that’s why I like to do this ..
Here's my argument against the Echo and Last DJ albums: He played songs from them when they were new, but not on subsequent tours. He didn't keep any songs from them in his repertoire after promoting those two respective albums. Same may be true for Highway Companion too.
Beautiful song 🎵 by a very beautiful soul. Tom accomplished what he came to earth to do & the world's a better place , because he was here! ❤
