I really miss the ground targeting, and manual targeting in the magic system, makes strategic gameplay and ambush impossible. Just place thunder mine, spam strongest spell, pray it doesn't randomly auto lock on a dragon's foot. Six spells is the sweet spot, defensive spell, augural flare, each elemental flavor. Gets repetitive with four.

I was in the unmoored world and was fighting a chimera when a griffin flew in. The chimera picked me up in his mouth threw me into the air knocking the griffin out of the sky. Or one time when the griffin I had been hunting since day 1 took me from the front gates of the capital after avoiding me for no joke 50 hours all the way to the top of the mountain to its nest battling two griffins from morning until night . Only to try and find my way back down a zombie and ghost infested mountain side on barely any health which then lead to a cave that connected me back to the eleven forest. Thank you for staying so positive in spite of the disappointment Capcom left us with at this year's TGS. I see so much hate and vitriol in comments on other videos and reddit about Casual Mode, but here you've proven that it's just Quality of Life mode with some much needed game balancing for fresh New Game runs.
My response to the toxic complaints in the community about no Hard Mode is simple: play as Trickster solo with no pawns. There's your hard mode built into the game since release. Have at it.

    • @James_Bee
      @James_Bee หลายเดือนก่อน +3

Yeah. That isn't fun. My pawns died somehow just after switching to lvl 1 trickster. The only pawn I had was 100% a healer and her little staff zapper was barely hurting the bahthal enemies. It took so long just to kill a few goblins.
That said, 3 pawns is easy mode at lvl 50+.
Drop a pawn or two or even three and most classes are gonna have a more challenging time.

That isn't hard mode and it doesn't solve anything, "toxic complaints", funny that you say that where I see toxic and blind fanatism here with 0 constructive thinking. 🤦‍♂
There's a lot of ways in which the game could be improved, adding a hard mode doesn't hurt anyone, at the contrary it would please more people, there's a lot of people who likes a challenge without any gimmicky solutions like the one you're giving and it would add replayability to the game if for example the first time you finish it on normal or casual and want something new that puts your skills to the test.

    • @Hylanvahr

    • @JustAShadow1919

The first game was compared to Dark Souls for slightly different reasons than what the term soulslike now refers to. Difficulty was a part of that, especially when Bitterblack Isle came out. But, it was just a somewhat hardcore niche third person Japanese rpg where you fought oversized monsters. That’s where the comparison came from. I don’t see anybody now asking for the second game to be turned into a hardcore only experience. But, if you figure out how the game works, it is waaayyyyy too easy to get ridiculously overpowered. On top of that, there is no difficulty increase for NG+. Really, few reasons to even play NG+. For many people, games become un-fun when they lose their challenge completely. If someone wants to play a casual mode and just experience the story and the core rpg features, that’s great. I am all for that! But, a large portion of people playing this game would benefit immensely from a more difficult mode. So, is it wrong to ask for? It’s extra strange, too, because half of it is set up like a hardcore game, yet the other half is quite the opposite. Like, a bunch of hardcore survival and traversal oriented stuff, to go with these really deep combat systems that seem like they should be deep dived into, yet they become trivialized half the way through that process. We had had to kick and scream to get more difficult content in the first game, and now it’s been the same with this. It just takes away so much replay-ability. Adding a hard mode would be a relatively minor thing, yet it would open up the game so much more for so many people. I’m still all down for a casual mode. So, I’m not giving you a hard time or anything.

Lack of enemy scaling, lack of enemy variety, little to no incentive to explore the environment & arguably a worse story than the first game. I am really glad to see the "casual mode" address a lot of the things that just simply make the game not fun baseline ( which admittedly makes me just wish that was the base game but I digress ). I'm still not completely sold on looking into jumping into DD2 anytime soon but I do hope this is a start to them bringing the game to a point that it should have been from the get-go and then beyond from that.
My only other take away here is that your experience in making it a "solo" run isn't the common way to play the game nor really intended by design so perhaps opinions on "trash mobs" and the like seem to have more weight when you're by yourself but with a party I believe they'd still be just that "trash mobs". Other aspects probably aren't too heavily skewed due to the solo run you're doing but overall it comes off as fair. Myself along with many others just want to be cautiously optimistic/skeptical since you can't really erase the past as the game did release as it did and first impressions matter.
I LOVE DD1 and even now was probably going to do a fresh run on Steam b/c I got that version recently. So while I'm still not sold on DD2 yet I still continue to love the IP and hope it gets better as time moves on sooner than later. ( even if I don't think DLC should be the answer to making a game "good" or where it should be from the get go but again I digress lol )
In the meantime I'll keep tabs on it through you so keep being a great pillar for the community for the game/IP

The clutch win early game is real tbh, that why I think Batthal was hated so much, you both got so strong that most encounter are a breeze or really fast, not strong enough and you get "unfairly" wiped out, and most probably unprepared because you are rushing through the zone because at this stage most encounter dont seem like a problem, until low stamina, heavy weight and damage sustained suddenly make you more frail than you expected.
Tbh, for my part, that's why I love the game.
But as some few people pointed out : more ennemy variety would be great...

I plan on starting a new playthrough as well, although I only got about halfway through the main game when it released and stopped playing for a few months. Even on day one I can say that starting as an archer (as I did) was an absolute blast, I might try to go for warrior asap on a new character especially after the updates with this patch. I felt let down after hoping to recapture that magic I felt with the first game but maybe I just need to give dd2 some more chances and force myself to try more things with different playstyles. Thanks for keeping it real and admitting that you changed your mind on some things with the game👌

I bought the game a few months ago (didn’t have the time to play til a few days ago) but I’ve been obsessed with it. Obviously it’s not the greatest game of all time but I can’t even begin to describe how much fun I had in this game, how fresh it feels. This will stick out as a diamond among garbage with how many games come out and aren’t half of what this game delivers. And I already know there are cool things I haven’t even found yet. The story so far? Surprisingly good given how people tend to criticize the story (However, I loo into the story of the previous game + DLC and clearly they had a much greater story, so it’s understandable). I think this story has very much been more than good enough for me. I advise anyone that’s thought about playing or buying the game to do so. It’s worth the full price (of course snag it on a deal if you can, money tends to be tight in real life).

Interesting to see you’re starting a new game because literally the day before watching this, I did the same thing.
On my original file, I’d completed the game and the unmoored world and was maybe 10-15% through a ng+ but just wasn’t getting into it.
I knew a big part of why I wasn’t getting into it was because DD2 just doesn’t have much to keep you going after completing the game. No hard mode and still no DLC makes it to where a completed file just isn’t much fun. Taking out low level enemies when you’re level 60+ just isn’t engaging (thought the same thing when watching Nihil’s video the other day.)
I was aware of that as an issue and kept wanting to just start a new game so I could re-live the magic of starting out fresh - but I kept talking myself out of it thinking “well if they drop a DLC, I’d want my completed file to be ready.”… finally came to the decision that hanging onto my original file is holding me back from enjoying the game, and that if I started a new file now, it’s just as likely that I’ll have reached the level I was in my first file by the time we get a DLC or hard mode.
Been having a super fun on my new game and am actively looking forward to getting back to it every day as opposed to just going through the motions like I was before.

I love this game, played it for months since it came out, but needed to take a break for a couple of months to recover from a couple of illnesses (I get motion sick when playing games if I have the flu, that and a dislocated shoulder, yaaaaay), but I've picked it up again recently and it's pretty much taken over my life. It truly is addictive gameplay, I know I've mentioned a few pet peeves about the game a while back, what I thought it lacked, but still, it's an awesome experience anyway, and pretty much is my favourite game along with the first game. These two tie for first, while Skyrim and Frontiers of Pandora tie for second.
The quality of life changes definitely help, I like it that I can hoard more items. I haven't tried casual mode yet, I might set up another profile on my PS5 and give it a go with a fresh character. I love the challenge of the standard mode and look forward to a future hard mode if they ever implement one.

    this video made me remember
the first 20h of DD2 were SO freaking good, the 30th to 40th hour were okayish good
the last 15h I had in the game weren't that fun
because of how we as the players get stronger WAY more than the enemies as we progress
I never died except maybe 2 to 5 times (and at least 1 of them was because I slipped and died lol) after the 30th hour mark, compared to over 15-20 deaths in the first 20h because I had to play smart, I had to use my brain and skills
I really hope whenever we got a DLC it will be hard for the whole play through and not just its start, maybe even gets progressively harder as you play it
tbh I am still not welling to play the game, I got the sour taste in my mouth from the lack of content and bad difficulty curve but I gained the hope and motivation again to pick the game up again whenever the DLC releases/a bit earlier and create a new character

    Mr. The Rift.
My First Playthrough in both DD1 & DD2 was as a Sorcerer and I only had my Main Pawn(Fighter). I simply liked the theme of a Dynamic Duo, a Magic Wielder and a Melee Fighter.
I played it on release and I experienced the "hell" you're experiencing in Battahl.... especially against Hobs.
It was challenging but not in the way you're thinking. You see... I actually had to use my "Consumables" and keep track of my Gold. Every small journey required some preparation. And although I don't recommend anyone doing this on their first playthrough for DD2. But I have to add, that even with my Main Pawn, it wasn't that hard. Rather it offered the expected amount of challenge you should have from a game like this.
And just to clarify once again, this was on release. Long before the Casual Mode and what not.

This last playthrough I carried a staff, and a magic bow, and daggers. I never even equip magic archer skills I just shoot stuff in the air without any skills attached. I used smokeshroud a lot to take enemies out of battle stance so my pawn's augment kicks in- frigor to mainly knock annoying saurons in the air for my pawn to hit the weakspot, empyreon for undead at night and unmoored world where undead is everywhere, and celerity for more attack speed. Oh and I usually carry a couple books to silence dullahan and drakes.

@@MrPistoleroGun feeling less "arcade" like is probably my biggest issue with the game. It feels like it's trying to be a tech demo for the physics system and sacrificing the gameplay for some pitiful attempt at immersion, instead of being a video game.

These changes do indeed sound great. I got distracted after five hours in the game. Might give it another chance.

I need help here. I want to play a medieval fantasy game. Unfortunately, most are RPGs, my kryptonite as a gamer. Inventory management is not only something I don’t like, but I’m not good at. I hear all about baldurs gate 3, and how it’s goty and such. But then I also see the turn based combat and it has me worried. Should I roll with dragons dogma 2 instead? It looks like more up my alley as far as more action oriented, faster paced combat. If the combat is fun, inventory management becomes easier for me. But then again, I love a good story too, and I hear that’s where baldurs gate 3 really shines. For a gamer like me, would baldurs gate have enough elsewhere to make the combat bearable? Or is dragons dogma 2 the one I’m looking for?

dd2 early game is one of the best gaming experiences imo. It kinda loses it in the 2nd half tho.

I played a no-ranged team on my third NG+, consisting a Trickster, Warrior main pawn, Fighter, and a full support Mage at level 90++. This team could wipe a Drake out in less than 30 seconds but a fight with a bunch of Harpies could take 10+++ minutes bcs everyone keeps falling asleep 😂 also, figthing Purgeners as Trickster was hell bcs my favorite move; Dragon's Delusion spam wasn't working at all 😂😂😂 can't gt enough of this game

Odd question, but how do you get your game to look like this? Is this base-game graphics, or are you using mods to change the color-grading? Would love a video from you on how to get my game to look like yours!
