What a wonderful piece of social history. It shows that Prescot was once a pretty substantial industrial area providing thousands of jobs for local people. BICC was a huge employer. Well done for having the foresight to record and preserve. I had a camcorder around the same time and never thought of recording normal, everyday street scenes...wish I did now. So much has changed over the last 30 years. Thanks for the upload.
I must have picked a lot up from my dad who filmed this. I carried a camera around with me all the time, I have great footage from school, college and university. th-cam.com/video/VIGhjkY1cNY/w-d-xo.html
Before the internet, before the death of Diana, before the News of the World scandal, before Jimmy Savile, before 911, before mass traffic, before the financial crash ....basically before the world went mad, it shows that a simple film showing everyday life of a small town can become a valuable historical artefact. Amazing footage! Appreciate the uploading.
It opens the eyes up when you put it like that. Looking at all the footage I have. I can’t believe how quiet the roads were. Similar to Covid 2020 lockdown 1.
...And after the crusades and the first and second world wars etc, etc. There have always been psychopaths, amongst us and in high office, that wish to do us harm. We are only just able to realise it largely due to technology, like the 'internet'. People were fast asleep and oblivious to the 'dark activities' of those that seek to control us. Good morning and welcome to reality!
I was only born after the BICC was knocked down so I only ever remember the Cables Retail Park, it's so surreal to see places like Station Rd and Kemble St not leading to the Retail Park
My old man was a driver at the BICC for 44 years, i went all over the place in the school holidays with him.Sad to see prescot without the BI, it went hand in glove with the town and so many peoples livelihoods.
So easy to forget what it used to be like. How much of Prescot simply WAS the BICC. Remember how optimistic we all were about the Prescot centre? Fabulously nostalgic video. Did you film it Phil?
Fabulously nostalgic is an understatement James, or should I say Denno? I was Dave Lilley in another life, weird to find your comments here as seeing Rocky's video immediately brought back memories of us idiots renting Terminator and was it Rambo II (?) for your birthday. Holy cow.
Days drinking in the eagle then a walk to the fusilier the vic, then back to the eagle for a late one ,i can remember in the late 70s going scotch barn baths and you got a elastic band and when a light came on the same colour you had to vacate the swimming pool ye time was up , loving memories of loving times
@@cculky5 my partner's from Whiston which is also Knowsley. She would never regard herself as a scouser. Knowsley is a borough of Merseyside. Not an area of Liverpool.

Great upload. Some good memories there, I used to live on St James road. Any one remember the old BICC buzzer lol.
Mark Swin. The BICC whistle has been saved and it's on TH-cam just type BICC Prescot and hear it attached to a traction engine boiler.
My first job was at the B I lots of good memories for me of Prescot and the trolley Buses to ST Helens.
I remember The Prescot Centre being opened by.......Tommy Mallett!
Windsor Davies used to busk there sometimes and flog his cassettes.
I was misstaken, it wasn't Windsor Davies, itwas Don Estelle. Apologies to Windsor

Fabulous ✌️
Prescot has a surprising heritage for a town so seemingly-non descript.
Mindblowing to think im walking through these same streets 24yrs on😅

Ruined by dreadful, blaring muzak.
