Before the internet, before the death of Diana, before the News of the World scandal, before Jimmy Savile, before 911, before mass traffic, before the financial crash ....basically before the world went mad, it shows that a simple film showing everyday life of a small town can become a valuable historical artefact. Amazing footage! Appreciate the uploading.

...And after the crusades and the first and second world wars etc, etc. There have always been psychopaths, amongst us and in high office, that wish to do us harm. We are only just able to realise it largely due to technology, like the 'internet'. People were fast asleep and oblivious to the 'dark activities' of those that seek to control us. Good morning and welcome to reality!

I'm only 15 years old but ive lived here my whole life so I don't remember the BICC but it's so weird seeing places like Bridge Road not leading to the new estates. Station road especially, I only ever remember it leading to behind the North shops on the retail park but seeing it head into an industrialised area is surreal

When I visit Prescot these days, I always remember how it looked before 1987. I have in some other footage walking up station road which was at the bottom of bridge road. In the footage I stopped and focused the camera through the factory windows watching the copper being turned onto the wheels. My first experience of being drunk was Sitting on that roof. Naught me.

  • @doktoruzo

What a wonderful piece of social history. It shows that Prescot was once a pretty substantial industrial area providing thousands of jobs for local people. BICC was a huge employer. Well done for having the foresight to record and preserve. I had a camcorder around the same time and never thought of recording normal, everyday street scenes...wish I did now. So much has changed over the last 30 years. Thanks for the upload.

Camera work was fuzzy, blurry and shaky, I thought the operator maybe had the DT’s? However on the positive side, it was a nice reminder of my days at the BICC from 1965 to 74 and I thank you for those memories.

I have a theory about why the BICC whistle sounded in July, 1989 I went to Prescot the week after Remembrance Sunday 1989. I walked down Bridge Road to look over the bridge and discovered the whistle was missing. It looks as if the whistle was RELOCATED within the works And there the trail went cold until November 2018 when I discovered the You Tube post. I like to think I played a small part in the whistles preservation.
