Most people don't realize this is actually a part II to her song "young hearts, run free". Thus the reason the chorus in this song goes "I became a victim, of the very song I sang". In this song she even says "I told y'all young hearts, run free...well I didn't listen to myself". Lol

She was still performing before COVID and I saw her a couple years ago do a great show in ATL. She was married to Clarence Carter and I've been friends with their son Clarence Jr for a long time! She's been living in UK for years coming back to the US do shows. She is still looked at as soul royalty in UK!

Young Hearts Run Free was a huge hit. 1975. This is the answer to her own song. Young Hearts was very popular in the new disco scene which began about 1974. Spreading very rapidly. This song was not nearly the hit as Young Hearts. But I like it better. Probably because I've heard Young Hearts a million times.
She sings only Gospel music now. I remember seeing her in the '80's on a Christian (TBN) show with the white gay adulterer Rev.Paul Crouch (his lover was Black). She still refuses to sing songs like this.
