Agreed. It's cool to see what his mind is going through when he composes a shot. And it really helps me learn how to see the potential images when I'm out and about.
The biggest thing is really just to get out, have great experiences, and learning how to be in the right place at the right time for the best light and conditions. For those feeling disconnected because of gear, it's not getting out with a 13k camera that makes work good or better. Tom's images were just as good back when shooting on the 5D mk4 - it's the photographer that makes the final image most of all. A lot of recent videos have felt like a Hasselblad ad though, rather than just the experience focused ones of the past. I get why people feel like the videos are no longer relatable.
Your last couple of videos have opened my eyes again to how effective a square crop can be when composing a shot. Takes me back to when I started photography nearly 50 years ago and fell in love with Charlie Waite's work
In addition to some terrific shots, this was one of your best teaching videos! Two of the lessons I’ve learned over the years stand out: “never leave before the magic happens” and (from the days of film photography, “it’s always better to over-shoot a scene than to try to come back later and get what you missed”.
3:37 stunning 7:34 Just Beautiful 9:07 Brilliant texture and Tone 10:55 fantastic 16:16 fabulous pano 17:24 amazing image, the best in the video (so far) what a great couple of days, thanks Thomas
Thank you sharing how beautiful the island of Ireland is and how tricky it can be to work to a plan, timescale or clock to capture any image. That's the British Isle's for you, wait 2 minutes and the weather will change. Sharing what the RAW file looked like and then the finished version helps to show us how someone can 'uplift' or 'enhance' or 'tweak' an image to possibly match what 'they' saw when 'they' were taking the photo, or just what 'they' prefer the end result to be... Thank you for sharing your art with us. 🙏
What's up Thomas? Another video presentation. What I like about your work is that you haven't forgotten where you came from. You still maintain your weekly videos without a whole lot of members only videos 2-3 times a month. That's why you and Gavin ranked #1 in a recent contest of some kind. You guys really earned it. God Bless you my friend. Peace!
Hey Thomas! I like the sincerity and transparency of you showing us your thought process. You clearly have strong emotions about what you do and your style of photography, and telling us the story behind each shot (for which you evidently care a lot) is really refreshing
Hi Thomas. I have to agree with you, RobOtto was very harsh, his comment was uncalled for. I have also followed you for years, as well as other such as Adam Gibbs and Fototripper, Simon Baxter, Simon Booth, Sam J Bose and his wife Hanna, and many more. As you said, you're not going to learn something from every video. I just watch your content mainly for the adventures you all embark on, many of you cover places, I myself have been over the last 40 years, and of course, many more that I have not and could not possibly get to, owing to time constraints. It's just very entertaining. Keep up your fantastic work, it is much appreciated by the majority of us.
Wow! Thomas, I don't always watch your videos (camper vans, gear), but this video and others like it are why I NEVER fail to check out your posts. You're such a great photographer and vide0grapher. I love it when you invite us into your thought processes. It's beautiful! Thanks!
Fantastic and i'm glad at it seems you had a great time on our little patch of beauty, so injoyed your little venture here and hope you come back again soon, safe travels.
You wouldn't be the first English man who felt that 5 days, 5 weeks or even 5 months was enough in Ireland. Some stayed 5 centuries.... 😊 Glad you had a good time there. Plenty more to see when you come back.
it’s really nice to see the raw file and the edited photos. It gives me ideas of how to edit my own photos while remaining true to the landscape. Beautiful work!
Really nice work. Love that part of Ireland. I actually prefer the color version of the reed/mountain abstract. Something serene and fresh about the green color vs. B/W. Wife and I both really enjoy your videos as they are not focused on just technical things but on the experience of composing great landscapes. Many thanks.
Good to see you get to Ireland, Thomas. You're right, there is a whole lot more to see on the south and east coasts, the midlands and the Wicklow mountains. The biggest challenge is light - which is hard to come by here a lot of the time.
For me the best image is the one with the shark tooth with the wide angle and that green on the bottom, leading our eye into to the composition. Nice video
You outdid yourself today, Thomas. Beautiful gallery quality images plus the b-roll with the drone. Superb. Oh, one more thing: I'll join you for the pint of Guinness! I'm a big dark brew fan.
Love the coastal images at the end. We had 9 days in Sligo county on the west coast of Ireland this summer and still didn't get to see enough. 5 days isn't enough for the whole country.
Several beautiful shots, Thomas! I really appreciated your final shot, how you didn’t give up and ended up with really beautiful images. I know the extra work doesn’t always pay off, but in this instance, it sure did!
Just got home from Ireland and we were in Kenmare for 3 nights. Loved the area, especially the Black Valley and Gap of Dunloe. We were in Ireland for 12 days….not nearly enough time! Kinsale, Kenmare, Galway, and Westport were our bases for day trips to sightsee and take photographs. Biggest frustrations were the numerous times when there was an awesome scene, great light, but no place to pull off the road to get the shot.
Although the slab loses some of its size in the wide shot, I think I prefer it to the pano. Both are very nice. And a tip Thomas...dampen a sheet of paper towel and put it under your cutting board. It won't move around on you while trying to cut your steak, lol ; ) .
Beautiful shots and scenery. I have family in southern Ireland and I've been tempted to get over to do some photography and this video has ignited my determination to go. 👍😊
Even after the previous video I see you're still clone out things lol. Ah it were only a wave or foam on the water in the last pic but it made me smile. Was on the west coast in August, loved every minute of it....even the one morning of sideways rain.
Your first image from this video reminds me very much of an image that I got this year. I made a TH-cam video around it that people can watch on my channel! It’s tagged “episode 3” for those interested. Thanks as always for the inspiration Tom! Jack
Funny thing, I get really nervous when you walk away from your camera on the tripod!, even more now with the Hasselblad. I'm one who has a safety strap tethered to my body when my camera is on a tripod. LOL! Some beautiful scenery, especially along the coast. Thanks for taking us along. Have a great day!
I"ve had Guinness for breakfast once. I'd flown from São Paulo to attend a friend's wedding in Killarney, at like, 8AM. By 12PM I was the most confident photographer on that latitude.
Didn't like the B&W abstract of the reeds but did like the shot with the mountain in back. Of the last pair the pano version works for me. Nice tour of Ireland. We did Donegal to Galway and the Burren a few years ago and I keep meaning to go back for the southwestern area. Its a fabulous country, similar to Scotland but different too.
Great video as always. Just one small suggestion Thomas! Please switch to a wood cutting board 😁. Every time you slice on it you get micro plastic in your system. 😀
I'm obviously here because of your photography, but your headline applies to anything in life and I found it particularly (and unexpectedly) encouraging. Trying to find my place at work and goals - just keep going.
Yes…peaceful and quiet. I had a moment of peace and quiet not long ago while in the mountains of Colorado, there’s nothing like it. There was a woman next to me getting set up for her composition and I was helping her out a little bit by holding her camera while she got her tripod in place. During our conversation, I told her to remember this moment so that when she looked back at the composition she captured, she would remember how peaceful and quiet it was. She responded with “…yes, very much so…” It’s not all about taking pictures, it’s being out there in these grand vistas and soaking it all the beauty of God’s creation.
Some really nice images Thomas. I also noticed the light editing touch you are employing these days, the authenticity of which that I applaud. If I could dare to offer one comment, I thought you had slightly overdone the shadow recovery on that beautiful 2nd image.
Why? Who cares what the raw file looks like? A raw file is little different to a film negative or transparency. The foundations upon which the final print is built. Nobody cares what the foundations look like when they buy a beautiful house. In my experience, it's only other photographers who express any interest in the journey from film/sensor to finished print. Then they get bogged down in the technicalities of the whole process. Unlike the laywo/man who simply enjoys the print for what it is.
Looks to me like, the only person 'complaining' about anything is you. As a photographer, I'm most definitely not interested in what a basic raw file or film negative looks like. In fact, most photographers I know, couldn't care less about same. Most of Tom Heaton's videos as far as I've seen are about the physical journey involved in his photography. I've not seen one that comes close to any kind of camera club mentality tutorial on processing images from raw to print. Obviously he thinks doing so adds some weight to the content. Fair enough, I suppose it satisfies some idle curiosity for some.
Nice to see a bit more photography going on in this week’s video… something that’s been a bit lacking in the last few. Thomas, you deserve that camera!
Coincidence that back in May I did a trip to Newfoundland at the same time as Gavin Hardcastle and in September I was in Ireland at the same time as Thomas Heaton. Didn't see either of them!

big fan of your work. keep creating magic..
based $200 zoom/discord chatroom. someone's getting greedy
It's so nice to see the originals and the edits flipped back and forth.
Agreed. It's cool to see what his mind is going through when he composes a shot. And it really helps me learn how to see the potential images when I'm out and about.

I love your gentle touch on the editing. No harsh, unrealistic, almost hdr stuff i see others doing. Well done 👏
Your last couple of videos have opened my eyes again to how effective a square crop can be when composing a shot. Takes me back to when I started photography nearly 50 years ago and fell in love with Charlie Waite's work

My Irish eyes are smiling!

Great idea to show raw and final image ;)
Oh Thomas, you do make me smile every time you say you'll use a 1:1 crop! Love it, lol 😂
Haven't watche photography vlogs in a hot minute. But I gotta say. The comparrision in the end between raw and final images is a realy nice touch!
Hey Thomas!
I like the sincerity and transparency of you showing us your thought process. You clearly have strong emotions about what you do and your style of photography, and telling us the story behind each shot (for which you evidently care a lot) is really refreshing
Let’s make it an annual adventure !

Great production. The RAW comparison was a particularly nice touch.

Very nice video. I can always draw some inspiration from your shots for my own photography
it’s really nice to see the raw file and the edited photos. It gives me ideas of how to edit my own photos while remaining true to the landscape. Beautiful work!
Great video as always Tom….. your presenting style, transitions and editing are second to none….
Wonderful video. Beautiful images. Very calm and peaceful.
Glad you enjoyed it
As always, a top video and lots of brilliant quality photography that provides inspiration for all.
All the images look great but the first two are beautiful with the reflections in the water 👍👍😎
Very envious of you being out with Mr McCloskey, two legends doing what they love!
Love the sunrise colour coming through on the surprise 3 colour wave morning.
Beautiful photos of a stunning landscape.thanks
Good to see you get to Ireland, Thomas. You're right, there is a whole lot more to see on the south and east coasts, the midlands and the Wicklow mountains. The biggest challenge is light - which is hard to come by here a lot of the time.
I love the vertical wide angle pano so much.
Love the last image! 🎉
Beautiful set from this video. First and last one are my fav.
As you said, you’ve barely scratched the surface of Irish landscape photography. Plenty to come back for…
Really like the black and white shots with the reeds. Top stuff Thomas.
I like what you did at the end of the video!!!
Just back from 10 days in Ireland. 10 days of overcast skies but lots of fun and memories.
Beautiful images, every one. Love the jagged rocks with the green foreground. Reminds me of something Mads would do. ❤❤❤❤
Very helpful! Awesome images! Thanks for taking me along!
Absolutely stunning pictures.
Great saturday night watch 🙂👍
For me the best image is the one with the shark tooth with the wide angle and that green on the bottom, leading our eye into to the composition. Nice video
Masterpiece

Thanks!
Stunning scenery and stunning images. The light was amazing!
Shame you didn't have any conversations on camera with Norman?
Beara is one of the least visited but most beautiful peninsulas in county Cork. Great to see it featured.
Several beautiful shots, Thomas! I really appreciated your final shot, how you didn’t give up and ended up with really beautiful images. I know the extra work doesn’t always pay off, but in this instance, it sure did!
West and South coast of Ireland is just wonderful, not forgetting the Guinness too! thank you for showing us your images they were great!
I've been seeing a lot of goats recently, and now your video has them too watching you ;)
Sunrise image reminds me of HRD back in the day.
For sure, I probably lifted those shadows a little too much 😂
A wonderful place!! Love your shots

Love that last image
Looking forward to seeing more content about Ireland!
Great shots, Tom. Yes, Ireland looks amazing. That is something I would really enjoy. Cheers!
7:30 wow! 👀
Man, that's such a beautiful place! Truly enjoyed what you captured, both video and stills👍👍
Although the slab loses some of its size in the wide shot, I think I prefer it to the pano. Both are very nice.

Love these photos, great video.
When in Ireland, embrace the green. Just a thought. 😜 Carry on. 👍🥂
Very enjoyable video Thomas. Enjoyed chatting to you at the Irish Light Conference as well.
Great vid production Tom, fab drone shots. Love the 1 st reed shot. You can’t beat some reeds and reflections. MJ
Even after the previous video I see you're still clone out things lol. Ah it were only a wave or foam on the water in the last pic but it made me smile. Was on the west coast in August, loved every minute of it....even the one morning of sideways rain.
Haha, I do believe in last week's video I said would still be using the clone tool, just more thoughtfully. Well spotted though.
Your first image from this video reminds me very much of an image that I got this year. I made a TH-cam video around it that people can watch on my channel! It’s tagged “episode 3” for those interested. Thanks as always for the inspiration Tom!

I miss the videos with your fuji

Great video, love those images. But no link to Norman's channel as promised :( And would have been great to see round his gallery.
Great video as always. Just one small suggestion Thomas! Please switch to a wood cutting board 😁. Every time you slice on it you get micro plastic in your system. 😀
Just got my calendars
Those cliffs at the end were something else. Nice find
I know. I was very pleased to stumble upon them.
Stunning images!
Wow you got some amazing images there Tm ❤
spectacular images, esp diagonal reeds B&W. worra korkerrr!!
You did good, and I liked your images
I'm obviously here because of your photography, but your headline applies to anything in life and I found it particularly (and unexpectedly) encouraging. Trying to find my place at work and goals - just keep going.
Love that first BW image, superb 👌
Received the calendar yesterday. Really nice. Thanks
Glad you like it, thanks for the support 👍
Great vid .
Keep up the great work, come back to Northern Ireland sometime!

@@tomcollier2444Going into a photography video to complain about things in the video that photographers would appreciate. Makes sense.

I find the RAW files flipping so useful, so great when I edit. I have to force myself not to go straight to the end.
Nice to see a bit more photography going on in this week’s video… something that’s been a bit lacking in the last few.
Thomas, you deserve that camera!
I agree. The conditions were very much on my side in this one.
Kinsale, County Cork is a great spot!!! would be great to see a video from there :) love the videos
