Julia Gets Wise with Jane Fonda | Wiser Than Me with Julia Louis-Dreyfus

  • On the premiere episode of Wiser Than Me, Julia sits down with the one and only Jane Fonda. With a career spanning over six decades, Jane - now 85 years old - hits all the highlights: staying fit at any age, fantasizing about funerals, getting heckled on set by Katharine Hepburn…and something about a fake thumb.

Finally got back to listening to the rest of the interview. Wow 👌 This interview really speaks to me in my middle age (after having had a "spiritual awakening"). I have always been a Jane Fonda fan. So genuine ✨️... she keeps it real. She's been through a lot & has accomplished a lot. She's an activist because she cares about people and the quality of their lives. Everyone deserves health and happiness. Thank you, Jane Fonda, for lending your voice to issues that affect all of us & our kids and grandkids. And Julia, you seem to have a truly lovely mom. I am also a huge fan of your work, your wisdom etc. ✨️ Thank you for making me laugh so hard all these years! Invaluable ❤️

I know this was meant for women but my mother in law suggested I listen and I find I really enjoyed myself. Women and men really are the same. It’s a shame society makes them feel differently.

I love Jane Fonda! Coming Home is one of my all time favorite movies. Love what she said about regretting plastic surgery. I’m approaching 60 and I’d like stay natural and embrace aging gracefully. It’s really hard but I’m determined to do this.
Watching Jane go grey in Grace and Frankie was so inspiring!

Thank you, Julia, for these podcast interviews. I'm a 64-year old women, and I'm loving this 3rd act I'm currently in. Well, not totally. Seeing my face aging sucks. Several years ago I embraced the grey. In case you haven't heard: grey is the new black. Cheers.

Thank you for this interview Julia. I have enjoyed your work very much over the years. You are so talented and seem really down to Earth. I can see how you and Jane Fonda could become great friends. For the past two years I just well up whenever I see an interview of hers. What a brave and beautiful soul she is. Absolutely extraordinary. How blessed we have all been to be so entertained and enlightened by you both. Best wishes on your growing podcast. These a very important conversations for us women. I am 59.5… 6 months to my “third act”. Blessings.

WELL DONE, JULIA!!!!! (And Jane!!!!) That interview was THE BOMB!!!! As a young woman who grew up loving to listen to my aunts, grandmother and older women talk about life, this conversation was quite beyond the depth of almost everything I'd heard before. Please keep this topic going. And, ya know, I wouldn't mind hearing from some older men too! (IJS 😉 )

Julia - Thank you! It has been so powerful to hear these conversations with these women, to learn from them, to hear from their hearts and to really soak in what that means (at least for me). I lost my mom in my early 30's and without her around I didn't realize how much I craved this kind of wisdom. And the boldness in your questions, the conversations, the hilarity, the vulnerability, the honesty, the courage - all of it - matters. Seriously - thank you so fuckiing much!!!

I am so glad I found this podcast. It was wonderful to hear Jane Fonda speak so frankly about aging. She sounds so much like my Aunt Pat toward the last few years of her life. They had the same views of aging as a woman.

This interview was so inspiring. I especially loved when Jane Fonda said that, if she had it to do over again, she would not have plastic surgery. Hallelujah!! She said she wished she would have chosen to age gracefully and accept what comes. This was a huge emotional boost for me. I'm 71 and watching my face turn into those of my mom's, aunts, and uncles, I KNOW that there is no way around it. It's genetic. Having wrinkles is not a character flaw. We didn't do anything to cause it. On the contrary, most of us, like Jane, take good care of ourselves. I was reminded of a quote by Wayne Dyer: "When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change." I'm changing the way I look at myself in the mirror now, and I say, "This is what a healthy, happy, 71-year-old woman looks like." We'll see if the wrinkles start to disappear...:) Stay tuned.

I know season 2 is coming soon and I can only hope that it comes with visual. I know that isn’t traditionally what a podcast is about but many “podcasts” are doing video shows now and this is one of those I’d love to be able and see. If not it’s fine, too. I’ll still be listening no doubt. I love you and have so much respect for everything you do and a lot of what you have to say.
So let’s make you and these “older” woman more VISIBLE then…… And go live!! Lol

Jane's description of female activists' humanity & compassion is singularly lacking from those not born women, 1 obvious difference, women are not threatening feminists' lives online or claiming to be more woman than another.

I am a fan of yours. Gotta say there is too much cursing in this episode. I fear you might turn off fans. I am not a prude. I am from a huge family and have brothers who were in the military. There was some cursing in the family, but never in casual conversation and never from our parents. An occasional well placed expletive in the heat of the moment can be very effective and understandable.
