    I have that squire. Every single time Jonny was about to mention a characteristic about it, he said the exact opposite I *thought* he would say about it. I love my bass and at this point in my life. I'll stick with the one that brought me to the dance.

    Cheers for doing this shoot out and I cant wait for the review of the Harley Benton because I firmly believe they are better than people give them credit, especially given their price.

      There is a lot of elitism in the music gear world unfortunately! But yeah, I've had good experiences with HB!

  • @nrich5127
    @nrich5127 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I can't say that you would really notice a difference in sound on stage with drums and the room ambiance but I believe by the last set the extra weight could give you an aching shoulder. For that reason I would personally go for the Squier for live performances and maybe the HB in the studio.

    Alway love the comparison reviews. Thanks a lot. You just stimulated me in buying my second HB Bass. Although the frets were sharpish and the neck pickup was not proper installed I decided to keep it anyway. Very nice color (metallic blue) and itś just a good basis to tweak it ....

    I like the block inlays. I will buy a HB as soon as they are back in stock. All ready have the fretless J Bass and it's heavy as hell;

    • @JonnyDibble

      I like to have my basses have a bit of weight to them, the HB is QUITE heavy though 😅

      Yes; it's a bit of a workout to play it

  • @SisterRose
    @SisterRose ปีที่แล้ว

    I really wish the HBs weren't so heavy. I went with a J&D Bass which is similar to HB but a little bit lighter - still not as light as i'd like it maybe but very nice bass overall. I'd really like if HB address this in future, otherwise I'll probably get something else for a second bass.

    Nice comparison video. I've not played either of them but I'd heard that the Harley Benton was a touch on the heavy side

  • @Brenners2010
    @Brenners2010 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I'm just wondering is the heaviness of the Harley Benton jazz bass a sign of a cheaper wood that was used to make the body? Or is it just that they used a heavier kind of wood compared to the Squier jazz bass?

    • @Brenners2010
      @Brenners2010 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Сергей Демешкин So Ash is heavier than Poplar? Would Ash be considering a cheaper wood to Poplar?

    • @EvertAlbers
      @EvertAlbers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ash is more expensive, but I presume heavy ash is relatively cheaper than lighter (swamp) ash.

      I picked up the HB second hand practically for nothing. It has a great aggressive pick tone that I love.
      I was gonna mod the bass but to be honest I'm gonna leave as is.
      Great for the money.

  • @vainparasite
    @vainparasite 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The HB is £200 less than the squier at thomann currently. If you're not satisfied with the pups you could easily get upgrades with the extra cash. Then again for me is it worth doing? If you're using it to gig with nobody in the audience will ever say I don't like the tone of that bass 🤣 and for recording everything is manipulated through the daw anyway.
    I know it's nice to have things that people go 'ooooo' at but who could honestly tell in those situations? Probably only the player 😳👍👍👍
    I think you are a pretty awesome player, thanks for the comparison 👍👍👍👍

    He's right though. I had a harley benton for about a week. It was a 4 string that weighed almost 12lbs. It was a shame because it was built great for the price, but there is no way a 12lb bass is every going to work for me. Good to know it wasn't just mine. Wonder why they all weigh so much.
