Also, I have to mention here, since making this I have realised the Arcadia RevitaliseD3 contains preformed vitamin A, so yes I would 100% recommend just following the Arcadia Reptile supplement schedule since the conclusions I came to independently, matched the schedule. I follow the full arcadia feeding schedule. I only mentioned earth pro A in this as its the main powder that deals with Ca, but i planned to go into more detail in a supplement powder video so i wasnt including it in this video, dont think that i only use earth pro A and thats it. Its funny since the routine I came up with in my mind was basically what Arcadia has produced with their earth pro series, so i fully recommend it, since I came to the same results they did. Extract from my thesis: High calcium diets increase cricket mortality after 72 hours of consumption (Allen & Oftedal, 1989). Calcium homeostasis in crickets is regulated by the renal tubules, which are blind ended sacs between the mid and hind gut (Browne & O’Donnell, 2018). Calcium transports from the lumen midgut and crosses membrane to enter circulating haemolymph (Maxwell, 2018). Uptake from the haemolymph into the malpighan tubules is facilitated by voltage gated calcium channels on the primary cells of the malpighian tubules (Browne & O’Donnell, 2018). Absorption ceases when granule storages are met, if calcium inhibitory pathways are activated, haemolymph may become saturated with calcium ions (Maxwell, 2018). As the primary cells work to secrete calcium into the malpighian lumen, this obstructs the hindgut and rectum of the cricket (Browne & O’Donnell, 2018). The high Ca content of gut loading diets is often far higher than maintenance levels increasing mortality (Attard, 2013). Of course, mortality is of little consequence if the cricket was intended to be fed to the end consumer before 72 hours, however if crickets not intended to be fed off are given high Ca content diets as a means of maintenance, loss of reptile and amphibian food is a concern (Livingston et al., 2014).
Very through. I'd love to see future videos diving into the importance of these nutrients in reptiles' bodies. Something similar to your video on the D3 cycle.
Liam the last few video show that you have moved up a gear in the quality of both presentation and subject matter. I have enjoyed this and the information that you have presented.
Hey mate. Absolutely addicted to your vids and podcasts lately before I get my baby Beardy soon so thank you! Quick question... where is the dubia roach colony video you refer to at the end of this video as I can't find it?
So if done correctly throughout the feeders life, and before being fed, can gutloading replace dusting? (Within reason, I'd probably still dust a few with a multi on occasion and tong feed em)
I'm not sure for throughout the feeders life. But there is one brand that I know of that has successfully made a gut loading diet that made crickets go over the minimum calcium, vitamin A, D, and E requirements for insectivorous reptiles within 48 hours. It's called Zukudla but it's sold in Canada. I managed to get a sample from them.

We can definitely go down this rabbit hole, this was only the focus nutrients of my dissertation there’s so much out there to learn
