Thank you so much for this video, it was extremely helpful. I'm a new leopard gecko mom & i want to do whatever i can to make sure my girl is fed well. So thanks again. Please keep up the great content.
Your videos have been helping me so much. I'm getting a bearded dragon for Christmas and I've been hearing a lot of good things about Dubia roaches. Thank you so much!
It's funny that you made this video on upgrading your dubia roach colony, because I just bought me a 14 gallon container to upgrade my dubia colony as well, and I was going to do the exact same thing you did lol. Great video
I love it too lol I’m from Alabama so if you slowed it down to almost slow motion then you’d have the way my family accent sounds, I have lost mine to Florida but you most definitely sound like my in laws who live in Lores SC 😁🍻 and thanks for your video. Wish I had seen it when you put it out but hey my fault for not being subscribed right? (I am now btw) but yeah those red pellets..... I gave my dragon some to try and saw it said you could add water to soften them up, being she was younger I did so and put them in her tank and left for work. I come home to what looked like she exploded from the inside out so naturally I had a small stroke but the closer I got I could see she had crawled through her bowl and went glass surfing etc and had it all day on her so the bits on her back and tail had dried in the light etc. so I’m sure you have a nice visual by now of how miss priss was looking so for the best part..... she’s a zero pigment....lol I can’t begin to explain how many times I gave her a bath the first few days, then she stayed faded pink till her next shed. More importantly though it made me think about what that food was doing internally and what not. Thanks again for this video 😁
Great Vid as usual! This reminds me it’s about time for me to clean out my Breeder and Feeder Dubai tanks. I feed mine unmedicated chick feed in addition to left over veggies and fruits. I’m also thinking of switching my Dubias over to a bio setup (at least the breeders).
I have a two things to add. 1, use coloured bins to provide more darkness for the insects. this will help keep stress levels down. 2, don't use dog food, rabbit pellets are a better option. Dog food contains too much protein which can cause problems for both insect and reptile. Otherwise, this is a great setup video and should be followed as Elle says.
I've not seen you in a while...congrats on that commercial you did for...Hero Wars or whatever it was with your beardie on your shoulder. I always put slick packing tape at the top perimeter of my bin and in the past 7 years I've had 3 escape, even when I leave the lid off most of the summer. Once I started using a little taller bin about 4 years ago, nothing has escaped. I always use flat egg crates because the folding ones always seem to be such a hassle. You could have used a black bin versus clear. Dubia really like pitch black, and a black bin would block out so much more light than clear. I picked up a HUGE bin from Lowe's for $9 each...someone mismarked them, but I'll take a deal. It is harder to heat for breeding though. I use a Cozy Foot Warmer which was made for people standing on cold cement all day, so with a thermostat, it does a great job. Not sure if you knew this, but when crickets die, they give off a gas that is toxic to other crickets, and more start to die, and it's a quick cycle before a ton of your crickets have died. That's what a guy told me that used to work at one of those large cricket mills. My favorite part about crickets was when we ordered, we ordered 500 at a time. Seal them in a bin and with that many chirping at the same time in an enclosed bin, it was quiet peaceful background noise. So happy your channel is doing so well!
insanely helpful. I was playing this at work trying to learn up and my work buddy who has no business in keeping roaches was just watching the whole thing. When I asked, he said you were "FOINE", just hoping it boosts some well deserved self esteem. But personally it's very helpful. I'm trying to see what it takes to start something commercial and local out here in san francisco. It sucks there are literally no reptile stores out here.
I subscribe to you and I watch so many of your videos. We just got our first set of bearded dragons (in separate tanks) and your videos are so helpful for everything!!
Friendly tip, you don't want to just feed your roaches anything. Dog food & cat food is best to stay away from because it has too much protein which will increase the amount of uric acid the roaches will then pass onto your reptile, increasing their risk of getting gout. Other than that, nice set-up. :)
Is this a breeding setup or is this just how you store your deliveries? I don’t want to breed, I just want to know how to keep them alive long enough for my future beardie. Also, I plan on getting a juvenile, how many would you order weekly and how long do they stay alive?
I don't breed either. This is just how I store my deliveries, as they have to be gut loaded to stay healthy for your beardie.😊Dubia roaches live for quite a while. I've had very few die, ever. I order about 150-200 to last my adult beardie for a month. Juveniles might eat a bit more than that, as they're transitioning from mostly bugs and a small salad daily, to lots of salad and a small amount of bugs daily.
Is it worth setting up one of these for a single bearded dragon? I want to be budget friendly, but I also want to avoid huge die-offs because I can't use them fast enough.
Whatttt!? I did this for my crickets and they never ate through it. That’s scary. Maybe doing this with wire screen instead of mesh would be better? Or multiple layers of mesh screen? How did you fix it?
They would chew like little holes in and get out. So it’d cut out a little piece of mesh and duct tape it on the lil spot. But I had a huge square piece cut out at the top instead of two pieces.
Did you use a metal mesh screen ? I have a 54 Qrt Sterolite bin to house my feeder crickets in I have 120 1/4"banded crickets And currently just have the lid a slid a half inch off so they can get air flow and tons of Egg flats and some Paper towel and toilet paper tubes in there and a bowl for food and the water gel but am thinking it be good to get some type of mesh cover bit I heard from the Breeder I'm getting my Gecko from they can chew through mesh but I'm not sure if it's all types of mesh or not.
I'm always looking for good new foods for dubia so i thought I'd watch. Just want to suggest you use a black container they will do much better. I switched a year ago and I can't sell them quick enough.
Yes. There's a channel called: The Dark Den who specializes in tarantulas. He breeds his own dubia roaches & uses coolers to house them. Long as you ventilate it properly to be fine. Using a cooler can be a cheap way to house them as most people have a cooler sitting there that they don't even use for anything.
This is going to sound really dumb. My dubia roaches are breeding very well. The only problem I have is I'm not quite sure how to feed them to my geckos. so far I've been just kind of dumping them in there enclosure so they can hunt and go for them since they are newly acquired geckos that are rather skittish. Unfortunately I'm afraid they are hiding before they can get them all. Is there a better way to feed them? IV seen the worm bowls but I'm afraid that the large roaches my white lined geckos need will still be able to escape
That doesn't sound dumb at all! I use porcelain dog bowls. You can get whatever size you need, and the sides are too smooth for the roaches to climb. Or if you're feeding them in a smaller enclosure, glass sauce bowls are great too 😊
Would this be necessary for one gecko? I want one so bad but insects/mice freak me out. Its the ONLY reason I haven't gotten a leo or ball python. 😭 if a colony isn't required, how often would you need to buy roaches, crickets and worms?
For one gecko, you'd only need a small container for them, so that you can gutload them first. You can always look into getting a crested gecko - they don't require insects at all (even though some like them occasionally) For ball pythons, it's best to feed them frozen/thawed rodents if that helps any (my mom is terrified of rats, and dead or alive doesn't make a difference, so if them not being alive doesn't matter - I totally understand)
Thank you for the video I'm going to try improving my set ups for dubes and crickets! So it's OK to give them a protein source like pet food? Do you think there are anything ingredients to look out for ?
Can I leave a few roaches in my bearded dragon tank ? He’s not moving around much so I want to throw something moving inside because he doesn’t seem to realize his mealworms are in his dish I haven’t got crickets yet only Dubai roaches is it safe so leave like 5 of them in there I have the pellets bedding so would they be able to crawl under like the mealworms would ?
If they have crevasses and cracks that you cant get to leave those objects out, if they can dig through the subtrate then dont unless u want to find them yourself. If its carpet substrate they will end up under it so take that advice and do with it as u please. Crickets are the only bugs that wont completely bury themselves and they get mine moving
I don’t have a bearded dragon but if use the bearded dragon pellets to gut load the crickets it won’t effect other reptiles from eating crickets gut loaded with bearded dragon pellets
I am planning on getting a Bearded dragon soon and i have never owned a reptile before. I am doing research first and I was wondering what happens if you don't gut load their insects? Is this mandatory or can I just go buy a dozen of crickets from the store and give them to him..? Also, can I only feed one type of insect every day/ for its whole life or does it have to be a variety? Thanks!
Gutloading is how you make sure that the insects contain the appropriate amount of nutrients for your animal. This is important when buying insects in large quantities (because it’s a lot cheaper to buy in large quantities as opposed to daily from a pet store). If you want to buy crickets from the store and give them directly to the reptile that day, that’s fine! Pet stores gut load theirs with cricket calcium and water. And it’s great to feed them a variety! It’s good for them to have a “staple” food like crickets or dubia roaches, as they are going to be the most nutritious. Then you can feed them “treat foods” like wax worms, horn worms, Phoenix worms, etc to add variety. 😊
So are dubias the kind of things that just won't breed if the conditions aren't right or is it that the babies/eggs won't survive with the right conditions? Bc i do need to store feeders but really don't want them breeding 😅
Help help help! Recently dewormed my Beardie her appetite has declined since then. Her fecal results are negative now. I am introducing Dubias but she dislikes them ALOT. But now she will not eat anything ONLY superworms. She is now also refusing crickets which were her fave. Idk what to do. She’s not lethargic but very sassy. I fed her Repashy and that was two bites and she just shook it off. I’m soo concerned. Vet feels she will eat when she’s hungry just keep refreshing her foods. Advice suggestions please please please
It’s pretty normal for them to lose their appetite for a little while after being treated for parasites, as it can make them feel a bit off. Giving probiotics after medication can help them feel better quicker. (I get mine from beardeddragon.co)
I just want to ask, will they breed there? I’m thinking about getting a bearded dragon and i’m trying to get information about them. I’ve never had any exotic pet so i don’t know how to take care of insects. I don’t want to breed them by the way. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I’m new to this.
Just got my first Dubia roaches my juvenile dragon loves them and I don’t have to bother picking up the dead ones like crickets not saying my Dubias are dead, just saying that unlike crickets they die in a day now I kinda love dubias
Ugh, dealing with roaches & other insects is the O N L Y reason I don't have a bearded dragon. They creep me out. I think I could get over handling them maybe (for the love of my own beardie), but definitely don't want them to escape and/or multiply in my house. Advice?? How do I get over it? Do you know anyone who has? Also, tips on thoroughly preventing escape? Thanks in advance if you reply!
I'm not sure how you can get over that fear other than just working with the bugs 🤔 Luckily they won't multiply in your house, but I don't think there's any way to completely prevent escapes. Feeding in a separate bin can help, though, because then you can just dump some bugs into the bin, pour in some calcium or vitamins, shake them around, and put the beardie in. When he/she is done, you can just pour the bugs back into their container. You can also use feeding tongs and wear gloves to prevent ever having to touch them 😊
Elle's Reptiles Trying out getting some expose to them first is a REALLY great idea...! I have to brainstorm on that (Like maybe volunteering at a pet store, or finding someone who has a beardie...). & I think I'd definitely use the separate feeding container idea, so they wouldn't just randomly be crawling around in the beardie's cage. - Thank you!!
For give water you can offer fruit and vegetables. Use a bowl with watered paper or cotton is not a good idea because is the perfect place for bacteria and other dangerous things for the roaches and so for our reptiles that will eat the roaches
I love your videos! I own 2 crested geckos who eat pangea diet so I don't buy insects, however I'm thinking of getting a leopard gecko. The closest pet store is 65 miles from me so in saying that, how many dubias would you recommend ordering at one time for 1 leopard gecko? What size would you say and also how many mealworms? Sorry lol I know that's a lot of questions
I just wanted to let you know that for hydration the best thing for dubias is to get water crystals because spounges and paper towels harbor bacteria and for feeding don't feed them dog/cat food or fish food as they're full of protein, the reason I say DONT feed them these foods is because dubias are already 36% protein. If you feed dubias protein packed food and give the dubias to your animal you risk giving your animal gout
People always think I'm crazy that my feeders are in a 10 or 20 gallon tank and they have fresh food and water and a clean tank what you feed your reptiles it's should be well taken care of because what you put in them is what you're going to get out of them
I am a proud owner of a 3 month old female translucent beardie! I thought I heard that feeding your feeders dog or cat food is extremely dangerous for your beardie.
Holy fuck i would have never figured out how to use this pain in the ass thing off it wasn't for u. I really thought i broke it from spinning the dial to fastThanks
I wouldn’t do dog food unless you wanna kill your dragon bruh! Also you know need these bugs buns and screens just keep them in a small container in the cabinet. I feed mine carrots for water and roach chow
Male adult dubias fly so no and crickts never shut up so im not sure what incects to feed my futer bearded dragon maybe dead incects im not sure help me
Adult male dubia have wings, but they can’t fly. They use them to glide down from high areas and they’ll flail them around, but they can’t just take off flying, if that helps haha. Definitely don’t do dead insects, they’re not good for them. You can do black soldier fly larvae, silkworms, Phoenix worms, and superworms as adults. These are all more pricey, though.
All my shoutouts come from Instagram! 😊 I started doing them because people would follow me over there and take the time to like a lot of (and sometimes ALL OF) my pictures. So it’s just my way of saying thank you to those that do that. 😊
I love the way we care for our feeders so well, so that we can ultimately feed them alive!
Thank you so much for this video, it was extremely helpful. I'm a new leopard gecko mom & i want to do whatever i can to make sure my girl is fed well. So thanks again. Please keep up the great content.

This is crazy helpful. I just got a baby bearded dragon gifted for Christmas and I want to make sure I get the little guy the best.
Yay! So glad it was helpful! 😊
I would recommend using an opaque bin, as dubia prefer dark places.
This is so helpful! How often do you need to clean out the bin? How do you do that?
Great Vid as usual! This reminds me it’s about time for me to clean out my Breeder and Feeder Dubai tanks. I feed mine unmedicated chick feed in addition to left over veggies and fruits. I’m also thinking of switching my Dubias over to a bio setup (at least the breeders).
I’ve heard lots of great things about bioactive dubia roach setups. Let me know how it goes if you end up doing one! 😊
I have a two things to add.
1, use coloured bins to provide more darkness for the insects. this will help keep stress levels down.
2, don't use dog food, rabbit pellets are a better option. Dog food contains too much protein which can cause problems for both insect and reptile.

Does it need to be in a warm area?
Thanks for the diy inspiration! The hot glue tip was especially helpful.
Dubai Dude roaches are great - thank you!

Great for me to start my dubias, thanks so much, I will be sure to get a starter supply from dubia dude
Thanks for sharing all the useful information.
May you share how you clean up the box🙏🏻

Nice diy build.
Thank you sir 😊
Needed this 3 weeks ago 🙌🏻
Will water crystals work for crickets instead of the wet napkin in a contsiner
Is it worth setting up one of these for a single bearded dragon? I want to be budget friendly, but I also want to avoid huge die-offs because I can't use them fast enough.
Side note I did this for crickets and they started biting through my mesh screen at the top that I had! I had crickets in my room!
Since then I have just got a huge cricket keeper cause I couldn’t keep them from getting out lol
You could probably go to your local hardware store and buy a metal screen. They sell replacement screen at an inexpensive rate.
So glad this popped up. I want to start breeding dubia.
Hi I just got a 7 month old beardie and I feed him medium dubia roaches but how many should I be feeding him a day, thank you!
As many as he will eat
I seen that it's okay to feed my beardie, Olivia, frozen veggies, thawed of course. Is that true?
Can you use an old 10 gallon tank with a screen top?
Yes you can! 😊
Could I use a old cooler for dubia roaches if properly vented?
Yes.
There's a channel called: The Dark Den who specializes in tarantulas.
He breeds his own dubia roaches & uses coolers to house them. Long as you ventilate it properly to be fine.

Ware and how do u put the heat mat at for Dubie Roach on the totle
Great video. Pretty much how we do it. I have 4 100 qt containers going right now! So those roaches came in a water bottle?
Thanks! And haha yea they did! He likes to use recycled material, so he puts them in water bottles 😊
How to take care of them when it's cold?
Thank you for the video I'm going to try improving my set ups for dubes and crickets! So it's OK to give them a protein source like pet food? Do you think there are anything ingredients to look out for ?

@@ellesreptiles This helped tremendously thank you so much! :)
Elle's Reptiles what kind of worms can a juvenile have to offer a variety. Dubia roaches will be my staple, but I refuse to use crickets 😬
Was going to comment in the ears shirt then I remembered. Enjoy your time 🦎👀s
😂 thanks! 🦎👀
What do you mean, in the ears shirt?
For the napkins, can’t the crickets or roaches eat it?
They probably could, but mine never have. I’d guess that that’d only be an issue if they didn’t have enough food. 😊
Where do you keep the bin? I’ve starting storing them on my reptile rack but it creeps me out having the feeders in the house lol
Haha I keep them on my reptile rack. I've never had any issue with them there though (like no escapes or no bad smells)
@@ellesreptiles thank you for the reply 🥺 I just started watching your channel and I’ve been binging your videos!
Awesome video very helpful 👍
I SAID DUBI TO A FRIEND HE COULDN'T STOP LAUGHING
do you still feed your dubias bearded dragon pellets?
So are dubias the kind of things that just won't breed if the conditions aren't right or is it that the babies/eggs won't survive with the right conditions? Bc i do need to store feeders but really don't want them breeding 😅
How many times a week do you go refeed / clean feeder bin ?
THANK YOU. This helps me so much 😊
Awesome! So glad it was helpful 😊
Do you only feed your bearde dubias or also other insects
Other insects as well! Variety is important 😊

Luckily they won't multiply in your house, but I don't think there's any way to completely prevent escapes.
Do you have to breed them??
No, you definitely don't have to! 😊
my roaches have a 10 gallon tank with a desert floor but bout to make a breeder base then the feeders go in the desert inclosure untill feeding lol
hi um does this work for locusts?
I honestly don’t know, I’ve never kept them. I don’t see why not, unless they would chew through the screen?
thank you so much I need to do this like a year ago lol
😂 glad I could help!
So to have a bearded dragon i have to also take care of bugs thats kinda unfortunate
awesome
I love your videos.
Im planning on making a 10 gallon tank for 3 females then hissing cockroaches then im gonna breed them in tubs first i gotta make it escape proof
So country ❤️ 💙
I just wanted to let you know that for hydration the best thing for dubias is to get water crystals because spounges and paper towels harbor bacteria and for feeding don't feed them dog/cat food or fish food as they're full of protein, the reason I say DONT feed them these foods is because dubias are already 36% protein. If you feed dubias protein packed food and give the dubias to your animal you risk giving your animal gout
People always think I'm crazy that my feeders are in a 10 or 20 gallon tank and they have fresh food and water and a clean tank what you feed your reptiles it's should be well taken care of because what you put in them is what you're going to get out of them
Awesome vid
Thank you so much 😁

Try an ice cube to spread the glue.
I am a proud owner of a 3 month old female translucent beardie! I thought I heard that feeding your feeders dog or cat food is extremely dangerous for your beardie.
yeah i’m pretty sure they explode if you feed it
Holy fuck i would have never figured out how to use this pain in the ass thing off it wasn't for u. I really thought i broke it from spinning the dial to fastThanks

I wouldn’t do dog food unless you wanna kill your dragon bruh! Also you know need these bugs buns and screens just keep them in a small container in the cabinet. I feed mine carrots for water and roach chow
Do not use sponges.
Male adult dubias fly so no and crickts never shut up so im not sure what incects to feed my futer bearded dragon maybe dead incects im not sure help me
asasine girl plays roblox dead insects have very poor nutrition in them
@@tyshaylll then what should i do
Adult male dubia have wings, but they can’t fly.
@@ellesreptiles thanks this is graet info your telling me i will try to do more research and im happy you read your comments
Don't get a bearded dragon if you're not willing to give it the proper care..
