Great! How can you make a fabric collision so that the character and other objects in the scene can affect the fabric? A video tutorial about this solution will be great!

To get the wind to work, In Active Cloth Paint, check under Config, Cloth Config, and change the Wind Drag Coefficient and Wind Lift Coefficient to 1. They are both set default to 0.1

Please make one for cloth collision with enviorment and character, i can't find anywhere a tutorial for that and after 4.21 there are changes in the settings so please make one for 4.23 or something like that.

I tried both versions of this video with Unreal 4.24. There is something wrong with that version of the editor. After upgrading to 4.25, it worked like a charm. If anyone else is having issues, that is likely it. Install the new version, and open a copy of your old file.

Follow the steps in this video but only apply the clothing data after painting. For 4.24.

Could you help please? When i double click on your flag asset the window looks different. There's nothing about skeleton and the pole is separate from the flag. UPD: i just had to manually import it into the project and check skeletal mesh in the import options

  • @laplacenudoll5500
    @laplacenudoll5500 4 ปีที่แล้ว

It seems that the wind source is only efficient to these simple "non-skeleton" skeleton mesh. I can reproduce the wind effect on the given asset but it doesn't work on any custom asset with skeleton binded. Maybe I made some wrong steps? I don't know..

Does cloth simulation work off joints in your rig? I have a character Im rigging who has a loin cloth on the front and back of him.
I am currently rigging - Should I put joints in the cloth or leave it alone? Does unreal require joints in the cloth to do the simulation? Or do you just paint the vertex of the mesh?

Did you figure this out? I am about to try and give my character a headband with a flap in the wind, I already have my character working and running around in the scene with custom animations. I want to just like place the headband on the characters head in blueprints but don't know the exact workflow for this.

Are you using the assets included in the download in the video description? This can happen if the cloth component isnt properly parented to the pole component.
Also double-check your weight painting and make sure you leave a stripe along the side that connects to the pole at 0 so it wont move.
Hope that helps! Feel free to message further and ill do what I can to fix the issue :)

@@underscore00 First of all thank you so much for your incredible quick reply.
I downloaded the assets in the description after your reply and imported and tested and it works just like in the video no problem. All good. So it seems like my mesh/import has the issue. So i checked the your assets in my blender and it has exactly same set up as mine but mine doesn't work :) So I was hoping you might help me with why and how to fix this, this is really an issue because lots of people seem to have this problem and no one is addressing it properly. Thanks in advance for your help.
Here is my fbx which I prepared in Blender 3D : drive.google.com/file/d/1pPCjx8UVY_q9SIg5Nykc4h-BcO4pZSvL/view?usp=sharing

@@underscore00 I fixed the issue mostly, looks like its because blender treats scale differently so when exporting we gotta do 0.1 instead of 1 to get proper collision in skeletal meshes.. but now requires 10 times more wind to get same result.. thank you for your help

Hmmm thats interesting! Im actually not thaaaaaat familiar with Blender myself, I actually only decided to make the switch to Blender from Maya a couple months ago and I havent had the chance to do much rigging or other tricky mesh handling, but here's what I know:
When I made the flag in Maya I did it by simply parenting the flag to the pole, because I think when Maya exports something like that it treats the connection like a bone, which is why UE4 recognizes the fbx as a skeletal mesh.
Another way to do it that works exactly the same (I tested this in Maya before choosing the method I mentioned above) is to create two bones; a pole bone and a flag bone, then bind the flag mesh to the flag bone and the pole mesh to the pole bone and make the flag bone a child of the pole bone. lol I hope that makes sense, its more of a traditional rigged method for achieving the same thing.
I do remember reading that Blender doesnt export fbx the same way that Maya does (as in without the right kind of connection between the flag and pole) but I was thinking this has been fixed since I made the video. If not, certainly try it with bones, and also have a look at your import settings in UE4 and your export settings in Blender, because if youre getting scaling issues then other things might also be off.
I hope all that makes some kind of sense and helps correct the issue! Thanks for the comment, Im always happy to help :)
