I have a question that I can't seem to find the answer to online. I've seen other recipes call this kongjaban/kongjang. What's the difference between kongjaban and kongjorim? Does it just have a different name in different parts of Korea, or are there variations in the recipe?
I am full of positive vibes everytime I watch u and ur cooking. Thank u, Maangchi. Me n my son love u very much. We retire to bed after watching any of ur video on cooking. My son says no bed time story, Mama I want to watch Maangchi. Much love.. God bless.😍😍😍😘
I love this recipe Maangchi. I've changed it a bit for my French-Canadian taste buds by adding a small onion during the garlic step and using molasses instead of rice syrup, because usually that's something we always have in the fridge and that's what we use in our bean recipes! I make this almost every week and eat a portion for breakfast, love it.
I worked for korean family as a yaya for their daughter...but now i cook korean food them...its all thanks to you..i learn how to cook by watching your videos...i hope you can visit again here in the philippines so can meet you.... 사랑함니다
You know that feeling if disappointment when you want to sneeze and it just won’t come out but finally you sneeze and feel great! First you put veg oil I was like, no sesame oil. Then finally you added sesame oil at the end to preserve the fragrance I assume. And I felt much better. Thanks Emily
It looks so delicious, I'm sure I'm going to make it tomorrow. By the way, in Vietnam we usually make sweet soup with black beans. All you have to do is put the bean and the water in a pressure cooker for about 15 or 20 minutes, then open the lid and add sugar to your taste, and just a pinch of salt. It turns out so good and great for hot days in summer, especially when you serve it with some ice :))
You are so amazing! I went to an authentic Korean restaurant over the weekend and absolutely loved these beans (among many other foods)! I happened upon your channel for this recipe and it is perfect. And your personality is beautiful. I am following!! I can't wait to cook more. I love to cook and you show exactly what is needed (how much water is left in the pan), especially not knowing any other Korean recipes. thank you thank you!
You explain so well each step, I learned easily how to make some of your delicious recipes. Thank you for your energy and dedication! I was born in Korea but I live in Brazil so long ... I appreciate your videos very much! 😋😋😋
many your recipe become my family favorite food....korean fried chiken (my kids really love it), potato pancake, beansprout side dish, spicy chicken braise n many more..... thank so much maangci.... with love : sa ras
Yaaaay! I'm early! I will definitely make this side dish next week with your braised pig trotters recipe!❤ Your videos are so fun to watch. I binge watch them more than actual television haha 😂
I made these yesterday, they are soooo good! I skipped the rice syrup though because I didn't have any and the beans were already sweet enough for my taste. They were not as shiny but still super tasty!
I agree with Tika Williams! I also binge watch your videos. I rarely watch a movie or t.v. I love these beans but have never had them sweet. Delicious. Delicious. Echo. Echo. Lol. I wish we were neighbors. I would enjoy cooking with you! Thank you for your funny, uplifting videos with wonderful recipes. I hope you have a Happy Mothers Day with all your children Emily !
Thank you for all your wonderful recipes and most of all for being you. You're funny and always make me smile and wave at my screen!!! Maangchi you are my kitchen queen 👑👸.
You have such a good sense of humor Mangi. As if your delicious recipes were not enough you also have a playful feisty personality to go with them. You are such a pleasure to watch and learn from. Thank you so much for sharing. This recipe will be perfect for a side dish with our dinner tonight. Now it's my turn to do comedy while I try to pronounce this to my family to tell them what they are eating. :)
Someone who defends my habit of having a bean-stash (i have a grain stash too ) I had tried the recipe...delicious..so lucky to find this recipe..thankyou 😍
Oh my, I used the wrong Black Beans (turtle beans) from my pantry. Still delicious, but mushy. So, I went to buy the proper ones last week from our Korean supermarket for my next try. It's a really BIG bag of beans, but they are grown locally, so I am happy. Thank you Maangchi.
I really love your recipes its simple that the ingredients can be found anywhere and its easy to prepare and cook and it is nutritional my kids love it..❤️😍Thank you for sharing..
This reminds me of an old family recipe that my great grandmother used to make. I think she simply called it New England Baked Beans, because that's where she was from. It was savory, tangy and sweet (I seem to remember molasses was used). I think it was finished in the oven. I'm sure you could do that with this recipe, also. I'm gonna look around for that recipe in our family keepsakes.
Thank you so much.. You have no idea how much i appreciate these videos, my boyfriend and soon husband is Korean and I'm making most of these dishes so i can feed him with his home food, i worry at times but I'm learning here.. Thank you 😘
I looooooooooooove these. They serve them as a side at my favorite Korean restaurant but I just never thought of asking for the name lol. Now I can cook these delicious little guys myself thanks to Maangchi!!
i am so glad you made this! I have so much black beans and needed more recipes to make! Thank you. Plus, my baby who will be 15 months old now has developed a liking to black beans so I try to feed him more variety of vegetables
I made this few days ago using regular black beans Geomunkong that was in mom's fridge... came out perfectly DELISH!!! And today made your veggie hotteok... mom loved them all!!! Thanks again for sharing your skills amd know-how... a novice like me can make them with ease. The 😋❤
It's ironic that as a Korean in my 50s, learning from you to feed my mom... I was too busy with life until mom got sick. But I'm really good with local food.😅 Please stay warm and healthy through your rough weather. Sending you warm Hawaiian sun!
Watching Maangchi add the rice syrup reminds me of cooking with family. How adding sweet things was my favourite part of the recipe, because it meant I could lick honey or sugar off the spoon. Mum and I would cook, then eat leftover ingredients and talk while waiting for the timer. We don't cook together as often since she's busy a lot, but I hope we can do it soon.
Seeing you cook your recipes reminds me of my sister's husband's mother; she's Korean, and makes food like this. I miss her food since she moved back to Korea...
I just recently subscribed to your channel and I am so happy to learn all these recipes you are sharing. I love Korean food and I know a lot of these dishes or ingredients has some healing components. I used to follow this Korean series Jewel of the Nile and she was cooking all these food to cure illnesses.
I love all your recipes... I learned a few cooking techniques from you when it comes to cooking Korean cuisine... Thank you...☺ Always a pleasure to watch...
I wanna try it, central america and us (south america) cook black beans too but salty recipes. So this taste will be interesting to share with my family. Thank you Maangchi :)

They're the same. Some people call the side dish kongjorim, kongjaban, or kongjang.

"rich in beans is better than being rich in money, you can't eat the money"
- Maangchi, 2018
👌 beans all the way
You gotta make the money first. Then, when you get the money, you get the beans. Then when you get the beans, then you get the women.
Thumpert the Fascist Cotton-tail 😂😂😂
We can buy beans by money 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Black bean gives you good health, money can’t buy health!

I always like her videos. I got several recipes from her videos that are simple and tasty :)
