DTW is, design wise, one of my favorite airports in the US. It has a very “international” feel including panoramic views, tall ceilings and windows. Reminds me a bit of HND.

I've been to Detroit Airport while on a few hour layover. The high ceilings definitely impressed me. Top notch architecture.
Louie M, I agree with you, i have travel in many places around the world and DTW is my favorite airport, next one is Tampa fl and Frankfurt.
Delta is the first US carrier that has impressed me in any video on TH-cam. Usually it’s the asian carriers that stand out most of the time but Delta in this video has really been impressive. Their A350 was so well maintained inside, their meals of good quality and IFE was very responsive. Hats off to Delta for their service. 10/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was really impressed when I went on Delta Economy. I had the same trip so about 8 hours. The staff were friendly, got an eminity kit, was served a snack and drink, had a choice between 3 lunches, then they handed out ice cream half way and had a tea and cookie service. There was another meal before landing. A full.meal.
That view from 12:50 onwards, absolutely gorgeous! I love a night landing with the city bathed in lights, like a table strewn with glittering jewels.

I was lucky enough to fly on a A350 a few months ago. And even though my seat was just by the engine, I was amazed at how quiet it was compared to other planes.
Thanks so much for posting this. I flew Delta (basic economy) round-trip Cincinnati-Paris in October 2019, and my impressions pretty much mirrored yours. Delta certainly has made a major effort to upgrade their economy service (and this extended to the attitude of the cabin crew: on both segments, they couldn't have been nicer or more professional). Like you, I appreciated all the little extras (hot towels, complimentary candy, amenity kits), as well as a noticeable improvement in the meal service (both quantity and quality), not to mention complimentary alcohol. Let's hope that Delta can keep up this momentum!

At last you visited my home airport- Detroit Metro!
Shanghai to Detroit is like almost 14 hours and then onto Amsterdam is like almost 8..Sounds like abuse, let that bird sleep/rest haha.
The Shanghai to Detroit flight is more like abuse to human rather than to the bird haha. I was on DTW-PVG flight last week flying in Delta's premium select cabin but it was still inhumane, especially given the fact that I'm 6'0" and started my journey from MSP.
Long haul economy isn't that bad if you fly on a quiet day. I flew an 11 hour LAX-LHR this past summer on a monday night, got the whole row to myself, i used it as a bed, and slept through the whole thing

That looked like a really great flight! The A350 is an awesome plane and I’m glad more US carriers are taking them on.
Except for American Airlines. The old America West Airlines, a low-cost, leisure market, really shitty airline were a launch customer for the A350. When they merged with the equally shitty USAIR, and then subsequently with a fake-bankrupt American Airlines, they cancelled their order. Typically bad move from a really shitty management team.
AA cancelled their order, wanting to simplify around the 787
United bought a whole bunch of A321XLRs and deferred their A350 orders until 2027.
It definitely is. It's so quiet and comfy to fly on it!
In Asia A350 is used for 45 mins flight lol
The other 2 airlines use more Boeing aircraft than Airbus
Kudos to Delta. They are lifting the bar on inflight service and this is so great to see for a U.S. carrier. Finally.
I have flown between Detroit-Amsterdam, and Detroit-London (Heathrow). The experience is great, even in economy and their meal service has been really nice the past few years! Food is hot, fresh, and looks great and everyone gets a placemat/nice utensils to keep the tray table clean. It really does make you feel like you are experiencing a luxury, even in economy.

Wow, I love how the tram goes inside the terminal in Detroit. I have not flown through that airport yet, but now I want to.
Took Delta from Narita to Singapore. Was told not to expect too much compared to Asian airlines. Well, the haters were wrong! Generous US-style luggage allowances, warm service and an overall satisfying meal experience made the trip a truly pleasant surprise.
The McNamara terminal is really nice for its age. I live in Detroit and when I heard that it was 20 years old I didn’t believe them.
That flight seriously looked amazing. The landing at dawn added the cherry on top

Love the Trip Reports! Back in 2008 I flew from Detroit to Dulles on an A320...my departure gate was A56.
The product has become much better than many European legacy carriers (e.g Lufthansa,... )
And yet interestingly, skytrax rates Delta as a 3 star airline and Lufthansa as a 5 star airline

Wow, I was surprised to see my home airport get such high praise! I’m glad you enjoyed the train system... it’s been down since COVID, sadly, but I’m kinda surprised it hasn’t been down earlier, considering this whole terminal comes from when Northwest was using this as one of their biggest hubs quite a while ago! Kudos!

Detroit is the best airport for Delta. Very under rated. And the tram is amazing. I also like the Techno tunnel from B - C to A terminal and it's worth the walk
This is my home airport and I love it. After Delta bought Northwest Airlines (previous hub) they did a complete remodel, I think it looks epic! Gotta love the architecture and the tram in the terminal, it never gets old to see it go by or ride in it. Nice job on the video, I have some family in The Netherlands so I’ll probably fly this route and aircraft sometime in the future.

Impressive, enjoyed it. Your videos are my favorite. DL is USA's best airline. Historically, Delta, has always applied their southern hospitality in their service, they're an Arlanta, GA based carrier.

I flew an A350 domestically from LAX-ATL. Once the A350 returns from Sydney, it makes a round-trip journey to/from ATL. If you're lucky, you can catch it, although there is no Delta One marketing.
They fly them from ATL to DTW and back on late night flights to clear out the airports.
Thanks for sharing! I'm just booking my trip from Italy to Florida, this video definitely helps me in the choice of the carrier, while Delta already was my favorite company! Too bad I can't right now now take a little stop in Detroit, my beloved birth and childhood city, but I'm confident it will be very soon! Flying over Lake St Clair while approaching DTW excites and moves me every time!
The Delta McNamara terminal at DTW used to be the Northwest terminal. It’s the oldest terminal in operation at DTW. The North terminal is the newest replacing the Smith terminal which is now being torn down.

Plane Spotting With Nate I actually thought the old terminals were long gone. So I learned something! I watched the new terminal being built from 1998 when I had a satellite office in Detroit (Livonia).
Dave Glo Well like I said, the Smith terminal is long gone. They’ve just recently demolished it or are in the process of demolishing it. It was replaced by the North terminal which opened in 2009 or 2010.
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne Country Airport was built way back in 2002.It's 18 years old.I really remember the old Northwest counters at this airport way back in 2005-2010.Miss Northwest Airlines.Loved the roar of those Pratt and Whitney JT8D engines on NWA's old DC-9s.I really loved riding on those monorails at Detroit.The airport is old but still looks in good condition as it has been well maintained.Hope you had a good trip.

I don't even travel that much (and my destinations so far aren't very diverse, but hopefully I can remedy that when it's safe to travel again) but I really like DTW, the lines aren't too long (from my experience anyway) and it's super clean and modern. This isn't my home airport but it's the one that I mainly fly through :D And I also love how unlike other channels you don't put music or a voiceover on your videos :)

Living in southeast Michigan, I use DTW a lot, with Delta. The airport is great and was completely rebuilt when Northwest had DTW as its hub; this was prior to Delta's acquisition.
I did DL 137 Last year.. Great Airline
While SQ is degrading its economy service, DL learns from the old SQ standard. The hot towel, the menu, the drinks and snacks, the cheese and crackers… They remind me of the good old days of SQ.

Last year I flew to Chile from London with Delta and was extremely impressed, the food was the best I've ever had on a long haul flight
Great trip report! A350 is such a beautiful aircraft. It's good that they provided eye shades and ear plugs. I didn't expect them to hand out hot towels for economy class passengers, that was excellent

Remember back in the 90s, our entertainment on a plane was plug headphones into the port and flip about 6 stations playing same music over and over
slvrbullet22 If you’re lucky in the 1990s and early 00s, you had a CRT TV dangling from the aisle’s ceiling. In the 00s, you might have came across 720P flatscreen TVs that flip down from the PSU.
pneumatic head phones... and projectors with 3 tubes. This is what I am remembering from plane trips in the 90s, on DLs L1011s and 767s. At the end of the flight, a FA went through the aisle with a huge plastic bag and collected these head phones.
My spouse and I were on our way to Amsterdam last March. During our flight they announced the travel ban because of COVID. Got off the plane and got rebooked on the next Delta flight back to the USA. We hope to get back there soon! Nice video. Delta is the best for overseas travel. That's who we use. No background music... Thanks!

"Detroit's airport seems to be quite new". It was almost 20 years old at the time of this filming. A lesson learned: when you invest in good design, it can last a long time!

Delta has really stepped up their game in recent months, so that even economy is tolerable now, which is more than I can say for any other airline in the US. Even flying economy on Delta domestically isn't a horrific nightmare anymore.
Detroit is a really nice airport. Because I live in the NE and fly Delta I connect through Detroit all the time. Depending on where I’m going, sometimes I have to switch from Terminal A to Terminal C. Delta has both terminals. I've ridden that indoor train a few times. It's lots of fun! I am wheelchair-bound, so if I’m on the train, someone's always waiting to meet me at my destination. The people at DTW are great! Everyone is very friendly. The Delta gate agents are always happy to watch my bag if I have to excuse myself. I’m the first one on the plane, and the flight attendants are so good about helping me get settled and getting my bag in the overhead. Because of my injuries, and the fact I’m in a wheelchair I don't really fly economy anymore. Delta usually upgrades me to Comfort Plus for free. I saw your Biscoff cookies! I love those things! The flight attendants apparently know this, because they always sneak me extras, lol! One of these days, I hope to have enough money to try out Delta One. I want to visit Portugal. It's on my bucket list! And I want to go back to England. So....just how big is the 350?

QUICK DELTA TIP I SAW FROM A FLIGHT ATTENDANT! this is just kind of a cool feature, but if you pull up the flight tracker screen that shows distance in miles/kilometers to your destination, you can hold down on the name until a list of other places pops up, and you can see your distance to any of them!
It’s amazing, all of the things that you were wowed by are so basic for airlines outside of the US - hot towels, menus, bottles of water. These are standard on European, Asian and Middle Eastern carriers!
I usually opt for KLM into Schipol. This looked a quite nice economy experience!

I flew this route a few years back with Delta, but it was a 330 back then. Came in from MSP. It was a Great flight, I always fly Delta as my destination in the US is always Minneapolis. Unfortunately had a 8 hour lay over in AMS, before heading south to Spain 😟.

Delta for flights outside of North America is really good.
Within North America, they are pretty good too. They have more free snack offerings compared to United UA or American AA. I think jetBlue B6 is still better for domestic tho but Delta DL is up there too
This terminal still looks like 13 years ago. I once flew NWA from Detroit to Germany back in 2007. And took a photo of the 747-400 prototype through that dotted window.

Took that fight last sept 2018 was super quick to amsterdam. Service was great and staff friendly

I actually flew into DTW from Amsterdam on an A350 in April of last year. I loved the airport as it was VERY clean and extremely easy to navigate. I think it took me about 10 minutes to get from immigration to the gate for my connecting flight to Orlando. Admittedly, I travelled with carry-on only, so I could skip the whole part where you have to pick up your luggage and go through customs 🙂
I wish you would’ve gotten to try the new main cabin service which launched on November 5th.

Delta now has amazing aircraft portfolio...what i love the most based on my experience are...A350, A330 300 neo, and A220.....but especially when flying in economy long houl...i prefer 330 Neo than 350, as for a 220..just an amazing level of comfort for a narrow body

Certainly a better-than-average flight! Those little extras (including a choice of dinners) can make a passenger feel valued. I appreciate that you really wanted to report on the "regular" legroom, but having a window seat was more important to give us the full experience. I have a Delta pilot in my neighborhood. I must tell him that he "done good"....

In December I flew delta one on their A330 from Minneapolis to Honolulu and it was AMAZING. The service was great, food, WiFi. And the seat was super comfy too.
Edit: I flew to Phoenix from DTW and saw the train. I thought jeez DTW is modular af.
