Nope, these are all irrelevant to my situation. The drives connect fine to my iMac, and I've been using them on this Macbook Pro prior to today, when it suddenly decided not to recognize the same HD it recognized last week,.
I have an external drive that connected fine (via USB A to C adaptor) to my 2019 Macbook Pro 16", as well as some other music gear, like an Akai Mini, and then I made the mistake updating the OS to Sonoma, and now none of it works. It's because, IMO, Mac is like "screw all that old sh*t", ie. stuff saved on old drives. They keep updating their ports. My next purchase will be a PC, after decades of Mac.
nice video but it doesn't apply to my situation. My external disk does not show up in finder, disk utility and terminal. It was working fine and suddenly it stopped doing the backups. BTW, I am running Big Sur 11.7.10
I'm sorry but this did not help me. I have valid SD cards formatted ex-fat they all work on my iMac1. On my new iMac2 they are no longer shown by Finder. They all worked up until today on iMac2. The disc utility app shows these drives as ex-fat and I can reformat them to OS Extended Journaled. The Finder then shows the files! Apparently somehow the Finder App is corrupted. I have upgraded to OSX Ventura but still have this problem. Any ideas? I must work with ex-fat since all my cameras use this and nothing else!
I have MacBook Air (m1). I have external HDD. It's can't be opened on this Mac. But. If I launch Parallels (windows simulation) on same Mac - it will see HDD and it will be useable.
@@odysseyshack i figured out two things. First: I screwed up a format of HDD and it is not in ExFat. So it can not be opened on MacOS. But can do with the help of parallels. Second: always use save disconnection. Or windows/parallels would be needed to relaunch HDD
I have a Mac Mini 2014 and installed the latest Monterey OS....I used a wired key board as recommended......I installed bootcamp and then used my Logitech wired keyboard to use both systems....unbeknown to me my logitech wireless mouse and keyboard prevented me from seeing external drives on Monterey OS.....when I removed the wireless keyboard and attached a generic wired keyboard I could see all the external drives attached to Mac OS.....this drove me nuts
hello, during the deep scan with AnyRecover the program randomly stops and says error external drive is disconnected. I have a Mac and WD My passport drive. Any suggestions on what I can do to solve the issue?
1. Go to Applications menu; 2. Utilities; 3. Activity Monitor; 4. Click on "Memory" from the menu; 5. Scroll down and find "fsck_hfs"; 6. Click and hold and choose "Force Quit". This worked for me. It mounted my external drive and placed it on the desktop as well. Hope it works for you!

WD external will not mount. That option is grayed out. Need to recover the work on the external. Is there a way to mount it?
