MERCEDES 2009 C220 cdi stripped injector bolt. Heli coil repair. Part 1 with a case of black death

  • Vehicle brought into me for popped injector...Common fault on these engines as the original stretch bolt often breaks off in the head... Having cleaned the black death carbon from the top we find all four injectors had been repaired previously...I believe this was done as a bodge to sell the car on quickly. Within weeks of buying the car my customer was suffering with these injector issues... No2 is the injector that popped out. This is the one we repair with a helicoil. Part 2 will be a short video showing the result after No1 n 3 have been done

    Very impressed with the work you have done there 👍 there’s a lot of shops that wouldn’t have taken the job on any many would have said the head is scrap.

      Thanks for watching and your comment.. I have told the customer that this is a temporary repair at best and idealy it does need another head... but as he said we had nothing to lose trying to fix it.

      The head is not a scrap, but a workshop had to provide you a warranty I guess.
      If you don't need warranty and ready to pay twice for next repair (head replacement) why not to make the same job

    got some good info from your video. my heli coil was on the top flushed and for some reason, it wouldn't screw down...it got tight in a few turns...time to drill out the heli coil and redo it. thanks

      Appreciate you doing this, I’m doing this on a sprinter truck, I’ve followed the same method but I snapped the clamp, I must of tightened it too much, I come back to your video and realised you only tightend till it felt tight which makes sense as it’s a much bigger bolt.

    @RJAH355 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi. I’ve had to do this to my w204. You don’t have to drill the head. The hole is big enough for 10mm tap to fit a 10mm bolt or you can put a 8mm helicoil in it for a 8mm bolt.

    I have a leak from #2 cylinder injector bolt bottom, seems there is a metal ball missing in the bottom where the threads are. When blowing air into the hole, coolant gushes out. The 3 remaining holes have the metal ball on the bottom. Used a bore scope for inspection.

    Great job, I have a 2002ML 2.7 diesel and have noticed that injector no.3 has blow by and previously repaired by someone using what looks like a 10mm bolt. Do I need to purchase a stretch bolt of the same size when I do the job or can I just use the old bolt being that its not to spec?

    • @jsapsed7022
      @jsapsed7022 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have an ML270 and had an injector blow out although it only stripped the thread from the aluminium head. I have used an M8 heli-coil insert with a shorter bolt exactly as used in this video. I used a 24mm long insert and a stainless steel cap headed bolt as there is no room for a normal bolt. I have drilled out the injector clamp to give clearance for the 8mm bolt and it has lasted 64,000 miles so far. I am lucky in the respect of, if I screwed up, I did have a spare cylinder head.

    Can I use 10mm on a om646? I'm wondering if there is enough space and that I don't damage something like a cooler line.

    • @shaunsautorepairs5410
      @shaunsautorepairs5410  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I couldn't say for sure as I don't know the engine specs but if the original bolt has snapped off and drilling is the only option I would say maybe an 8mm is a better choice. The larger diameter means drilling more out the clamp weakening it..what ever bolt you use just drill deep enough for the bolt to seat properly. Sorry I can't be more help. But thanks for watching and your comment.

    a garage down the road from me is having to do that same job on my 2006 Vito. I expected it to be the seal but same problem... needed that big job youve done. . doing it Friday morning. it's gonna cost me £400 is that a good price do you think? or too expensive. I don't know. it's only injector number 2. but now I've seen your video . I really hope he doesnt ring me to tell me they are all gone.
    .At the end of your video when the other ones had gone. I had a similar reaction. almost as if I was there. like Oh No!!! brilliant video anyway! keep up the Great work!
