Now King Hippo can truly say he has an iron stomach!
This one was a learning experience. King Hippo has strapped a, uh... he's strapped a manhole cover onto his belly. Yeah. You can see me figure this one out as I go. He's got a few more mix-ups for his attacks, but they all are fairly straight-forward. So, once you've removed his defense, you just need to look for an opening! Literally. His mouth. When it is open, SMASH it!

Go for the knockout punch! It's Punch-Out!!(!) This title is a true-to-form reimagining of the classic Punch-Out!! titles! And 60 frames per second will let you see the animation to the fullest! You've got the simple and rhythmic dodge/punch controls, your star punch, and a super-stereotypical array of contenders to bash! You can just feel the love that went into making this into a game to be cherished by the fans of the series! (It's good for newbies, too! This was my first!)
Your goal is to knock out your opponent, and to do so you need to look for openings! If you just throw punches at random they'll be blocked. In general, you'll dodge a single or series of punches and then when they're open for retribution you respond with your own! There are other methods of attack, and the game will introduce a few to you as a key method for attack, but in general it's "Dodge-punch-punch-punch"! You'll often get stars for a star punch (a more powerful attack) if you take advantage of these more secret techniques.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention! You have two ways of healing yourself! If you knock the other fella down, you can mash the punch buttons to regenerate health as long as they are on the floor. There's also the super-secret-chocolate bar! Press "-" between rounds to heal a LOT of health next round. Only can do once per match!
I played through this game once in the past using the Wii Remote/Nunchuk scheme throwing punches left and right, so this time I'll try the more classic method of the Wii Remote held sideways, buttons only.

This is being played on a Nintendo Wii U, a system backwards-compatible with Wii discs. The Wii U has the same hardware built-in as the Wii. The Wii U will automatically upscale your Wii games based on your selected resolution and output via HDMI in Progressive Scan for a clean image. - เกม

The comments... why? Have any of you giving hate even played the game? This isn't the show off skill, this is more like a Let's Play, it's their attempts in beating the fight. Most go through the game the same way, you didn't beat the game hitless when you first started it up, if you did I call bs. Try playing a game where you need to learn sometime before getting mad.

Yup! This was also back when I was getting a kick out of TH-cam FINALLY allowing for 60fps videos! (A necessity for many game-videos!) Nobody had done Punch-Out in 60fps yet and I was past due for another go-at! So, here we are (were?)!

I know this is an old video, but I’m pretty sure no one who’s called this guy a noob has actually played punch out before, or at least not a blind play through. Like you don’t just start the game knowing every exact strat for every enemy.
Yup. It's kinda the whole point of the game. It's not a "fighting game", it's a game of trial and error as you learn enemy patterns and eventually get a successful iteration. The game would have utterly failed its whole concept if you could get through all the fights in short order.

@@JimmyBoosterCrate Before I had even played Punch Out (1987), I remember looking at tons of vids about the fights. I was stuck on King Hippo at first, but managed to get to Great Tiger before utterly failing at his Tiger Punch. He was just too quick for me lmfaooo.

The TKO Recovery seems to work at random. You know you did it when the crowd continues to cheer after the final blow.
The health recovery cheat only works once per match, and you actually press the minus button to activate it. You know you did it when you head a ring sound and see Doc pull out his chocolate bar.
Third one hits the nail on the head. It can be tiresome if you're attempting to regain a decent chunk of health

So the main objective with hippo is to get the swer lid off to hit his belly. So as soon as he does he upward attack he's open, at that time hit him in the face and when he's open, hit is stomach. I hope this helps, if it doesn't tell me so I can try again. Good Luck :D
