HI lovely friends. If you're anything like me, you will have made at least some of these mistakes in the past!! Please share with us your experiences!! Looking forward to hearing from you. Lots of love. Deirdre. XX
I totally agree with you about buying more than one item Of the same thing. This year, I bought Chanel style lady jackets because because I thought they may be Going Out of fashion next year..
OMG, I’m guilty of buying too many of the same thing..once I love something I am so drawn to buying it over and over. Recently, however, I have been very conscious of this and decided that instead of buying 5 or six of the same thing I will simply buy one of a “better quality”. So far this has worked for me…❤Liz❤
@@marthawoodworth I do exactly the same! Once I find something I like (be it clothing or shoes) I’ll buy it in all the various colours! I once found a particular lingerie set (I think it is in 8 colours! lol) …… I know, sheer madness! Hahaha!!! 🤣
I just cannot remember you EVER offending anyone Deirdre! You always have great ideas, and points to make. You also say to "wear what makes you feel great" and that is true. I've been dealing with the 'bra' issue this week. I think that over time they shrink in the dryer. I should just line dry them.
I think you look better in a t shirt than in this shirt with a collar as it makes your neck look too short ! You look better when you wear a tighter fitting top !
Diedre, thank you. I am a physician in the States who has a subspecialty in breast care and mammography. The bane of my existence is breast pain. Many times it is cause by ill fitting bras. This has recently been publicized by ob,/gyn articles. I cannot tell you the number of times I have directed patients to go get a bra fitting. Should be done anytime there's a gain or loss of around 8kg, or 20 pounds. Not only will one feel better, but it will help you look better, and more youthful. I love your channel and tips. Nothing worse for a patient to have a frumpy looking doctor. Again, many thanks.
You are on point, brava! You aren't trying to hurt anyone's feelings, you are being honest. Why be offended by the truth? Thank you for educating in a kind manner.
And-- never forget - all they need is to 1. Turn off their screen/device 2. Do not be rude. 3. Don’t like it?? Ppl are responsible for their own choices AND actions. Don’t look!
Your armfuls of cream blazers gave me a good chuckle! Im guilty of this but with purple blouses - its my favourite colour and every time I see a pretty purple top I have to have it - its getting a bit repetitive and ridiculous so thankyou Dierdre for bringing this one up! 😊
Hi Deirdre thank you for a very informative video. Today I wore a navy jumpsuit and paired it with pale pink slip on shoes and a pale pink denim jacket. I think it looked great and I guess paler colours go better with navy rather than black. To be honest, I am fed up with wearing jeans all the time and long for the weather to improve to bring out my dresses and skirts for every day wear. Thanks again for your tips, Maralyn xx
You are wonderful! That yellow dress on you, walking down that elegant staircase is sensational. Your directness along with your sense of humor is quite charming. Thank you.
What a fabulous conversation you had with all of us! Thank you. It’s a conversation I’m having with my own daughters. ❤You could never offend anyone with the kindness you always show. 😊
I'm retiring in 3 years and I realise I'll have no everyday clothes. Atm I just have clothes i can dress down on the weekends. My new mission is to not buy anymore business items but more quality everyday items that can be dressed up or down. Found your video informative. Thanks
Great video!!!! I agree with you about the socks but I enjoy creating an element of surprise !!! This means when I wear rubber boots due to rain or it’s cold outside si need dress boots, but what wear I colorful interesting socks so when I need to remove boots there is an element of surprise !!! It makes kids and grandkids giggle!!!!!
Interesting thoughts about tonal dressing. I watched a you tuber who suggested that it all depends on your colouring. So a dark haired lady can suit a contrast. But my colouring is more like yours so I prefer, and I think I suit, similar tones.
The underwear point is so key but also one of the hardest things (for some of us) to change! I think it’s the mental leap of accepting that even though one can squeeze into the smallest size, this doesn’t mean it’s our appropriate size or is flattering.
Completely agree with all of these. I've created some personal fashion rules & to keep fashion enjoyable, stress low, finances intact and feeling great in my clothes. I've sold & donated some past pieces that no longer or never worked, and I feel great now. Those rules keep me in check & happy with my wardrobe.
Started following you lately and i love your tips and your advice. Living close to Italy means we tend to be very fashion conscious but at our age you also want to be smart and classic . That s what you offer! Thank you.
Interesting take on the trousers mixed with dissimilar tops. I personally love the look. I do agree with wearing sizes that are appropriate to our actual size and wearing well fitting undergarments!
I love all your suggestions, especially the undergarments, the black shoes, the socks, the length of pants, the tonal cohesiveness...all of the them. Thanks for your humility too. It's refreshing.
You are spot on about the undergarments. I didn’t realize how my truly comfy bra did not provide much support until a friend sent a pic she had taken of me. Yikes!
You are such a natural talking to the camera. I like that you didn’t have your phone on the wobbly stand with you and click through your topics. Thank you! ❤
I watch your videos because of the info you give on styles and what goes together and what doesn’t. I value that. Like this video I have made lots of mistakes which you mentioned today. I feel lucky that I have found you. You never offend, you say it as it is ❤❤Thank you.
The video was excellent. I can see your teaching skills popping up through the content. Never worry about being offensive you're too sweet to ever come across that way! ❤
I just bought 4 pairs of linen trousers. Imagine my surprise when I found about 8 pair more in my wardrobe from last summer 😂. Stop the madness…I have enough! I will be taking some to the resale shop!
I don't get Linen. They are always wrinkled, out of shape, floppy, shapeless and a pain in the butt. Same for shirts or pants. I went nuts ironing the shirts. Finally, I wised up and said no more. They all went in the donate bag. Yet they are still promoted as being fabulous. On who???
I’m with you. I can iron a white linen top but the moment I put it on it turns into a wrinkled mess. Linen trousers always have those crotch wrinkles. I only have 2 linen pieces and I’m wondering if I’ll ever wear them again. The ironing seems a waste of time.
Great advice! Clothing should skim or flow on your body, not too tight, not too baggy. Also, go out of your comfort zone with clothing every now and again. I got a lovely girl to help me in a shop I visited recently for a formal outfit. It was definitely not in my comfort zone style wise but i ended up getting the perfect outfit that wowed everyone. Went back for the shoes they loaned me for the fittings as they give an instant boost to almost everything in my wardrobe 😂
You wore a strapless bra in one scene while struggling to get a T-shirt on. The bra looked very comfortable! Can you provide the link or brand/style please? I would love to find a comfortable strapless bra!
Thank you Dierdre for bringing up the point of buying the same things! It's so me! Decluttering recently I had to donate 17 skirts which looked exactly the same)))
These are all very good points.! ❤ I purged my closet and have been putting all my clothing items in a wardrobe app. Before I buy anything online, I put it in the app to see if I need it and have enough items already that it will coordinate with. It’s saving me from buying duplicates and clothes that I will end up not wearing because they don’t go with anything.
More good ideas Deirdre. Some mistakes I’ve made too. When you like fashion, no matter what your age, we still make mistakes when trying something new…otherwise we get in a rut and just wear tried and tested outfits. I personally like to inject modern pieces in my wardrobe and even at 71 sometimes they don’t work, but I’m always learning and always willing to try. Thanks again for another great video. 🌸
Loved your ideas and agree with them. Having said that, I am guilty of wearing brightly patterned socks with jeans and a sweater in one of the shades from the socks. 😟
Loved your video especially about the undergarments. I'm always careful to wear the right bra with the right outfit because not all bras go with the outfit you've chosen. It also makes a bug difference on how the outfit looks on you. Same with underwear too. As we get older we gave to be more careful because our bodies are not what they used to be. Thanks for your delightful videos ❤
Very interesting points you raised Deirdre and I think I mostly follow these rules. I have also found the comments people have left quite interesting too. Trousers can be awkward for me because I am only 5ft, but have discovered that wearing cropped styles are often about right for me. I was also quite surprised that my legs looked longer if i wore trousers just to my ankle. Thanks as always for your tips.❤
Definitely on buying the same (or very similar) garment again and again. I'm not guilty of spending all the budgets on occasion clothes (probably means I don't get invited to many-otherwise I probably would). I love black but I think it gets very overused because it's perceived as being slimming and going with everything- which as you point out is only true some of the time. I sew for a living , so lengths are not really a problem.
I wear fun patterned socks all the time with jeans in the winter. They often coordinate colour-wise with my outfit somehow. My students love them. My style personality likes a bit of animation or fun or unexpected or whimsy. So it works.
The tonal color mistake made me think of the Tibi Color Wheel. That has been a game changer for me. I printed one off to keep in my closet and have a picture of it on my phone for shopping. Black definitely doesn’t go with everything!
04/22/24 I agree about the bra issue and undergarments. If I wear a lace cup bra under t-shirts, fabric wrinkles at bust. Buying smoother cup bras resolves this. Also pulling the bra up and not have a droopy bustline is more youthful. A very informative video! And a great visual about drooping bustline you showed of that woman. Thank you!
Hi Deirdre. Lots of good advice . How sensible to buy clothes for our lifestyle, not for special occasions. I think you are so right about the tonal mistakes. 🌺🌺
Deirdre, you worry more about offending people than I do, and I'm Canadian. And that's quite a high bar. I think that if people watch a channel about fashion advice, they should expect some advice and not take it personally. I love your videos. I've learned so much.
If I FINALLY find a jacket/blazer/sweater that fits and flatters, I'm buying one of every color. I had a problem with bras riding UP every time I raised my arms. Someone said my bra was too small. What? I am NOT endowed with.....well....but what the heck. I bought a cup size UP and there I go. No riding up. Who knew!!!
Great tips again Deirdre. I recently had a bra fit as going through the menopause and knew my size had changed. Having the right bra is fundamental to clothes sitting well and looking streamlined. They also reveal waistlines and can make you feel more youthful, which I think is an important physiological aspect to it.
I can't imagine many people ever being offended by your opinions. I'm thinking that if women tune in to your channel, they have an open mind and are willing to pick up tips from a very stylish lady. Isn't that why we click on, to see all your videos, ladies?
I discovered your videos a short time ago, and I absolutely love them. Love your styling and tips. I particularly liked all the issues you pointed out in this video. I’ve done a few, like pair light summery colors with black, or wear darker shoes with lighter stuff. I struggle at times with pants and everyday shoes. I tend to wear a lot of sneakers, and every time I try and change it, it just feels awkward. After watching your video’s, I have gone through a few tired looks, and now look at them differently. So thank you so much for all your help and input.
Thank you for the excellent advice! I lost 122 lbs since 2022 and have re-kindled an interest in fashion at the age of 55+. I’m 5’5” 125 lbs and never knew I had an inverted triangle figure until recently! I struggle with wanting to hide loose skin all over and a drooping bust and discovered just because something fits, doesn’t mean I should wear it. I wear knee high compression socks under trousers daily for health reasons. What’s a person to do when no-show socks are not supportive, especially in a very hot climate? Is it worth it to spend money on plastic surgery (bust lift and tummy tuck?) or say who cares what others think, and buy a car instead?
I’m so glad that I am not the only one who is guilty of number five! I have beautiful outfits for special occasions, and cannot resist picking up statement pieces, but when it comes to putting something on to go to the library or the grocery store, I don’t feel as though I have much to choose from that looks “put together.“ Thank you so much for talking about this, and bringing it to the forefront of my mind, so that I can do something about it! By the way, I think that you are lovely, and I really do want that shirt that you are wearing! And your blemish does not show 😊
You always have great advice, but the best thing about your videos is your personality! Also, I didn't even notice the thing on your chin until you pointed it out, and you certainly don't need to apologize for it. Thanks for another great video!!
Great chat Deirdre, Agree with all the mistakes, which like you have been made, esp about the underwear, its incredible what a difference it makes. I didnt notice anything until you pointed to it. & yes menopause does this, so there is absolutely no need to apologise! x
I am guilty on all counts. I have a bizillion white button down shirts
Is there much support in the bra Deirdre x
I actually think every points you made were spot on ! Look forward to your next post :)
Love all your ideas. What brand of bra were you wearing putting on the too small T and what brand were the no show socks on Amazon?
OMG, I’m guilty of buying too many of the same thing..once I love something I am so drawn to buying it over and over. Recently, however, I have been very conscious of this and decided that instead of buying 5 or six of the same thing I will simply buy one of a “better quality”. So far this has worked for me…❤Liz❤
I do the same, but in different colors. I love wide-leg linen pants for summer - same pants but in different, luscious colors.

I do exactly the same! Once I find something I like (be it clothing or shoes) I’ll buy it in all the various colours!
I once found a particular lingerie set (I think it is in 8 colours! lol) …… I know, sheer madness! Hahaha!!! 🤣
I’ll be 80 in August and am extremely cold natured so I wear socks all winter- some solid but many patterned. I’m at the point I can wear what I like!
Go for it and Happy 80th Birthday for August! Lots of love. XX
I wear socks to bed
Actually, patterned socks under pants or jeans look good!
Socks patterned r not; doesn't matter.
They can't be seen under long pants anyway.🤗
Good for you! ❤
I just cannot remember you EVER offending anyone Deirdre! You always have great ideas, and points to make. You also say to "wear what makes you feel great" and that is true. ...Yes, line dry your Undergarments... they will not shrink.stretch, etc. :)
I was just reading that you should use the “loosest” clasp on your bra back closure. As the elastic wears out , you then use the next tightest clasp.
@@nightingaleiomdisagree.
U could also dry your bra "a little": then take it out. Air dry it. 🤗
The green silk pants with the white tank and green scarf is beeeauuutiful!!

A purple lover as well. Don't care for button-up shirts, but "collect" knit tops, sweaters and jackets. I will probably never run out!

I kinda knew most of these mistakes but it never hurts to be reminded. And no, not offended at all. 😊
If I find a piece of clothing that looks good on me and fits right, I tend to buy one more right away and then usually one or two in different colors.

I LOVE wearing crazy socks with loafers or slim line sneakers and ankle pants. My favorites have famous artwork on them!
I am into socks that make a statement. I like wearing jeans with a slip of color/prints socks for fun. Target has great selections
Those green socks were adorable! Very youthful.
You had some tips I haven’t heard before and gave me some things to think about. So many of these”look old” videos have the same tips.
And your blemish does not show 😊
I tend to find something that actually fits, and then I get it in multiple colors.
Your fashion advice is invaluable!
That's so kind of you, thank you. XX
Completely agree with your points!❤
Thanks. Agree.
I love your style. I’m struggling to find my style!! So Thankyou. 🌹
I keep buying black scoop neck t-shirts. They are so useful but I had enough a few years ago!
I think you are just lovely and I always enjoy your videos. You offered really helpful tips and suggestions today. Thank you 🩷
You always have great advice, but the best thing about your videos is your personality! Also, I didn't even notice the thing on your chin until you pointed it out, and you certainly don't need to apologize for it. Thanks for another great video!!
@@joanne_niagara thank you so much, Joanne. Xx
I love all your videos and appreciate your insights into fashion. Thank you for all you do to keep us over 50 gals in style!
You're so welcome. XX
