It’s been said many times already but I just wanted to add my voice and tell you how great your videos are. Clear, concise, and well informed. Some of the best DCS content, honestly. From a new player, thanks for all your hard work.
Once again, great tutorials! So the auto lasing timer is set 8 already when you go into the DED sub-menu. How come it doesn't come on at 8 seconds? And if I set up the auto lase & want to turn it off, what do I set it to?
You can start lasing whenever you want before auto lasing engages if you prefer. If you really don't want auto lase to engage just set it to as low value as possible :)
Thx for the video. Are those the only 2 values to know: 15sec and 45sec for those respective bomb types? I can't recall if there are other laser guided munitions that might have different auto-lase time.
Thanks for that video. Why would some bombs require a much longer lasing time compared to others ? The ballistic trajectory would push them outside the sensor head ability to catch the laser spot ?
I don't know the exact answer, but yes, it's due to the different flight profiles, trajectories, and guidance of the bomb. The GBU-24 has a much more complex flight profile which allows it to be dropped from further away which increases its time of flight, needing a longer lase :)
Laser Spot Track - lets you put someone else's code in there and tell the TGP to search for it and lock on to it if it finds it. I'll cover it in a video in the near future :)
Question: Why don't we just set Laser ST Time to zero, so that the laser is fired immediately after the bomb is released and not have to worry about any numbers? What's the difference? After all the TGP is always looking at the target...
Well, setting the start time to 0 will result in the laser starting way too late. I assume you meant why not set it to a high value and let it just lase the entire time until impact. You can definitely do that, and in DCS it will work fine because overheating of the pod isn't modeled, but in real life you can't just lase on and on :) I hope this makes sense!
Not possible. On the real thing, bomb's laser codes are set by a physical dial on the bomb itself. Some DCS modules let you change the bomb's code in the air, but that's unrealistic. In the DCS F-16, you can change it either through the kneeboard only when your engine is shut off or through the mission editor, as shown in my laser guided bombs video th-cam.com/video/qZViFMcsKYo/w-d-xo.html If you want to set your bomb's code to the JTAC's you need to know the JTAC's code ahead of time
I think you are asking about the LST code. Putting in the JTAC LST code will cause your targeting pod to find the JTAC laser and then you can lock your pod on to the target that the JTAC is lazing. You wouldn't have to change bomb codes using this method.
True, but if you want to use the JTAC's laser without your own then you need to set your bombs' code to the JTAC's code. Maybe he was asking about LST but he did mention "weapon laser code" so I'm not sure :) Either way, all answers here are very correct haha
in the F16...say I just left a base with my bombs set to 1688, on the way out to the area I am tasked to a JTAC and he is using 1685 laser code, I am not dropping with my T pod and I am using the jtac laser . can i drop?? like in the movie Battle: Los Angeles when they used the laser to mark and destroy the spacrcraft
@jeb b Once you start the engine you can't change your bomb codes, you can use the JTAC laser code to spot the target, then use your targeting pod to lase the target.
You just start lasing before the auto lasing engages. The default value is 8 seconds which is barely enough even for a GBU-10/12 so you can just lase manually at 15 seconds before estimating impact if you want :)
No I'm setting the time until it automatically starts lasing 😅 I'm not sure what you mean by "auto lock" Whatever value you set, that's the time before estimated impact at which the F-16 will start automatically lasing

Wait I have to land!?
Great idea, I'll add "eject safely" in the future 😂

Roger.
Thank you :-)
Thank you so much for watching and I hope the video was helpful!
@@MamboDCS Where can we find information about all of those numbers for diffrent bombs? Are they in the manual somewhere?
what does the LST code do?

@@MamboDCS ah ok I see! Thanks!
So it's pod overheating that's the reason why
Indeed ;)
Set the laser time to 99 and you’re golden (in the simulator)
so i dont have to hold the weapon release After Release ?
If you use the auto lase function then you shouldn't need to hold weapon release or the 1st stage of the trigger to lase :)
How do I change the weapon laser code when jtac has another code I need to drop on? While flying ....

great tutorial as always
Wow what a cool feature. Quick question though, how do you not use auto lasing? I think there is a default time set?

What's the lasing time for gbu 12?
Why! First of all merry xmas to you all as I write this on 12/24/2023. I have a question: why not to set a long laser time (i.e. 45 sec) to all bombs?
So you're setting the time for how long the laser auto locks, not how long until it starts lasing. I think that's why people are getting confused
No I'm setting the time until it automatically starts lasing 😅
