Maybe instead of mass releasing minis, they fill the books w/ actual lore? Last one I got was Xanathar's, but really don't see a reason to get any of the new ones. They are depressingly light on material.
Why not both? There's no reason not to. They're entirely different teams. You're absolutely right about the lack of lore, though. It's ridiculous. What's the point of throwing away all the material they used to build upon?
I have this mini set and I definitely jumped on the nostalgia train. Curious about the Cleric/Thief switch as well as the absence of the Barbarian and Uni (granted as a youngster we hated Uni and the fact that she cost them the portal home a couple of times 😅)
Kind of a bummer that the minis don't match the sheets. They do look cool, though. Love the rogue's headgear.
Feels like they match the First Starter Box and the Dragon of Icespire Peak adventures.

The standard character sheets seem to be the same ones included in the old LMOP Starter Set box, just with a bit of additional artwork.
They should have made the minis match the character sheets.

They recently released an unpainted halfling barbarian blister pack. One of them will convert perfectly. I just need to turn his ax into a club
The 50th anniversary mini set has since revealed minis for Bobby, Sheila, DM, Uni, & Venger! :)
Dragons. 2/8/2021 and I lived again. Broca's area, or the Broca area is a region in the frontal lobe of the dominant hemisphere, usually the left, of the brain with functions linked to speech production.
Hank the ranger was voiced by actor Willie Aames. Bearing that in mind, they could've made the cleric based on Bibleman!

The Dungeon Master was EVIL in the cartoon. HE gave them all magic Items and announced their class. But Didn't give the group a Healer. Note if you are able to get your hands on the DVD Box set for the Animated Series. It had 3rd Edition stats for all the characters. And their Magic Items.

Loved the cartoon, I recorded it on VHS from Saturday morning tv, rewatched with my nephews, then later with my own kids. Then got the set on DVD and have since rewatched them with my grandkids.Was great to see them throughout the artwork in Stormwreck but horribly disappointing that the characters do not appear whatso ever within the adventure, either as the pregens nor npcs. The dice set only being 6 dice was disappointing too.
The animated series is coming back as an IDW 4-issue comic book series which will be a continuation of the animated series as the lost episode.
This is the set I’ve actually just ordered a few hours ago
trying to learn to DM so I can run this adventure for my online friends. It's harder to learn than I thought.
I think it’s really helpful to watch or listen to the game being played, along with reading the rule book. Look up a few actual plays (hey I have some!) and check them out. Also the folks at critical role have some good introductory videos under the title “Handbooker Helper.” -Theo
@@TheGallantGoblin I've been listening to a podcast and It certainly has gotten me hyped to try the game!
Just remember, your players don't know what's supposed to happen in the adventure, so you can't really tell it wrong, and you can always move stuff around behind the scenes to figure out how to make it work. You don't have to have everything right on the first go (or even the hundredth) and if you don't know how something works when it comes up, it's fine to make something up in the moment that makes sense to you and your players, and check later on to see how the rules would handle it.
The most important thing I've found to DMing well, is to make an effort to let the choices the players make matter, and to play the world in a way that reflects that these characters are doing stuff in it. That's the real magic of this game. In virtually any other experience people are passive, here, if they decide to insult the innkeeper he might become upset and tell them to get out, and they could do anything from burning down the inn, to picking him flowers and writing him an apology note. You get to reflect their choices back at them, and when a players gets that feed back to something they came up with, the response can be magical.

I agree the wizard is the best figure but the others aren’t good enough for me to buy the set the starter set however is something I’ll be getting as soon as I see it
Diane was the acrobat in the show, Uni and Bobby are missing from this set, also Eric was a Cavalier, I cannot think of the other girl but she was a thief with a cloak of invisibility.

They could have just done the full set from the series and they would have sold. Trying to blend the cartoon with the new starter set is a lazy sell out.
Or they just should have gone full out, and made the pre-written characters reboots from the characters in the show. People are either gonna play them or not anyways, but to the people who are fans it would be something of actual note.
Character sheets were definitely just generic characters, so sad they dont match the set
The basic idea of bringing back the characters from the vintage animated series is a cool one but too bad it was so badly executed. The character sheets not matching the miniatures?! Argh! Including a cleric character that was not part of the show, but "forgetting" the barbarian who was?! Double argh!! This is such a frustrating disappointment and a painful missed oppotunity fo long time D&D fans.
