Two years after a hip break from a fall, I still have pain. Loss of energy and on-going pain have caused a dramatic change in my active life.

I've been living with a pain of muscles damaged during hip replacement surgery for 13months now. IT-band and glutes scar with adhesions inhibit movement of the hip backwards and puts a lot of pressure on the sciatic nerve. Doctors also don't ever mention chronic fatigue which may occure after the surgery. Since I was operated I have a lot less energy. I feel as if I were in my sixties while I'm only 32. I do not like the thouth that the doctors are recomending this surgery just because they make their living this way, so I choose to believe that the posible consequenses are hiden only to keep the image of the medicine as a science which is never powerless. When a patient learns more about THR, he finds some informations about a few percent of THR that are missmatched, few percent of kidney damage in five years, few percent of leg discrepancy, few percent of chronic pain. I really do believe that sometimes it's a good call to make this surgery, but I'm also sure that if the full information was revieled to each and every patient, the surgery would be less popular and implants would be much cheaper as well.

Thank you :-) you're really kind. I guess I'm just frustrated after 8 suegeries...
On the other hand I''ve never met any person with THR, that would be pain-free and not limping. It's always either one thing or the other. I'vr been wondering now why it's always called one of the most effective surgical interventions. Maybe when the problem is with your hip and the surgery doesn't help, doctor may claim that the problem is not with the hip, but with a chronic pain of the hip and than make two separate statistics like it were two different parts of the body. It would explain it perfectly. Surgery helps lets say 50% of the paitients, but because when it doesn't help, it is classified as a problem with chronic pain, so then patients with cp are excluded. In conclusion the surgery helps in 100% of cases, but the cases when it doesn't help 😄 It would be funny, if it weren't about making irrevocal changes in human body.

@@mpilitowski I think Prof. Board put it very eloquently in this interview when he spoke about risks and how the likelihood of some serious complications after surgery may be low as a percentage of all procedures but, if it does happen, it can affect 100% of that person's life. I hope find solutions to the problems you are facing.

I had an anterior hip replacement last March and I'm doing wonderful no pain at all I think it was because it was the anterior and not the posterior replacement

I’m so glad that you posted this .. the chronic fatigue is beyond life altering.. I’m exhausted 24-7. I’m having serious IT band and scar tissue issues at the moment .. I’m only 4 months post RTHR and pray that things improve within the year

From Canada: Broke my hip in a fall. Snapped off at the ball joint. Had a hip replacement the same day. Three months after the operation I slipped in the bathtub and after I researched the situation, concluded the Iliac bone had shifted. It was classified as a pelvic alignment issue. My operation was August 30, 2023 and I still have pain. The recommendation is that I seek out a manual therapist or chiropractor who can probably realign the problem. Will be seeing my family doctor to see what he thinks.

Appreciate this informative and knowledgeable video. Thank you. As for me, pain is much less, 3.5 months after minimally invasive total hip replacement at Mt. Sinai, NYC. Some serious sciatica I was experiencing on that side's shin and ankle has also thankfully gone.

I’m 2 weeks post op regarding hip replacement surgery and I’ve noticed I still have groin pain. When I had steroid injections before surgery it took the groin pain away. But I’m wondering if the groin pain is coming from the back problems I’ve had for many years. I have rod’s in my lower spine 🤔

I had my first (right) hip replacement 6 years ago and recovered really well, and quickly. Pretty much pain free after first two weeks and off sticks completely within 8 weeks. BUT I had a second THR (Left) 7 weeks ago and its a very different situation. Horrible pain on standing or walking and need sticks even in the house. Left hip and leg extremely weak and I can't put any weight on it. Everything I look at online says people should be back to all normal activities within 6 weeks which is very demoralising.
