It also can be a daily and it can be a fun car. It's one of the only cars that can really be dual purpose. I see a black 997 C2s and that scene from Waynes World enters my head. "It will be mine. After about 7,000 miles in my 996 I love it. Mine happens to have been repainted by a previous owner in Gulf Blue, lowered a bit and has a much better suspension. That one is kind of old looking with those wheels and stance. And urban camo is a weird color choice.

It's a good car for just covering miles in. Me and Jayemm took it down to Brands Hatch the other weekend for the truck racing, and it was a really pleasant way to travel.

I think a proper exhaust would help it come alive significantly at low speeds, but for a car you have to learn to always be in a lower gear than usual and be high in the revs, it’s can genuinely take a while to click. The m3 is somewhat similar in that regard

Meh, if you don’t like the Porsche, you don’t. I’ve loved them since a young boy and can’t fathom the same ownership experience with a Ferrari or other exotic. And, the cost of those is much higher. A Porsche is a daily driver. There’s nothing like precisely steering a 911 through a series of curves or taking one deep into a corner and whipping it around as you power out of it. Thanks Lawrence. Hope you got to work on time. I agree mostly with your "Really Nice" comments. Someone has to take a click counter to how many times you said "really nice" ! haha.. I am a Porsche owner 20 years now. Love them to say the least, but after 20 years of being a Porsche enthusiast I also have an interesting way of looking at them. Although you were not totally enamored in your "week" long experience at the end I can understand that there are other sports cars or super cars that will excite you more in the beginning of your ownership, but give them time and all the different scenarios, only time and experience can give you, and I think this will open your eyes as to why the Porsche brand get's better with time. Think of it this way.... what type of woman would you want to date vs marry:
-Italian and other exotic sports cars = Super Model looks, extremely beautiful, exciting, loud, in your face, attracts lots of attention, fast, crazy in bed, very expensive.... Then with time you discover that they are also very temper mental, inconsistent and need lots of attention, needs lots of money to stay happy, complains and does not like being driven hard for too long, becomes only a weekend driver, sex is not very often, fragile when used often and high maintenance all around so she spends lots of time sitting around in the garage... oh yeah, did I mention very expensive.
-Now a Porsche = Beautiful Girl next door, always willing to do fun rides, consistent, reliable, trustworthy, exciting and fun in bed, always up for a challenge, loves being driven hard daily, never complains, and enjoys taking care of you when ever asked to do so. So although this particular Porsche may not be as exciting initially as some other cars, I know over the long haul of sports car ownership which I would chose. As I get older... reliable and consistent will win out over hot and high maintenance every time. I would much rather have the girl next door that is super fun and reliable, then the extremely temper mental hot, high maintenance super model that excites in short bursts. Just my humble opinion. Really enjoyed your review. Especially the "really nice" moments. ;^)

I bought my 911, because it ticks all the boxes I need. It is a consummate sports car, it has space enough for me, my wheelchair and belongings for a long trip. It can easily cover huge distances (I have two 1000mile journeys to complete every month). Although only 10 months into my ownership, I would agree with you, Lawrie, in that it is a very good car. As for not liking it because it is “too precise”, I don’t understand. Yes, it is just a car...but I love this one more than the Mk1 MR2 that I thought would never be beaten. No, mine does not have a permanent rear wing or sports exhaust either, because I don’t worry about what others might think of me. I own and use it for my own pleasure.

I've still got an urge to buy a 911. I bought a Porsche Macan S, it was a lovely thing to be in..but a drivers car it was not. I was getting in my wifes Audi S1 everytime she took her eye off it..so I traded the Macan in for an S3..much more my cup of tea. I was just thinking that performance-wise it's probably similar to Jay's 911 with over 300bhp and 4 wheel drive. The 7 speed dual clutch box isn't as rewarding as the 6 speed manual in my wifes S1..but it's a very good all rounder. I guess it's as close as I can get to a 4 seater (rather than 2+2) 911 at the moment. Could you imagine if Porsche got hold of the Golf R/S3 bits and did a Porsche version? It might take my eye/heart off the 911!😁

So about three years ago, I wanted a sports car. But I have two small children and I wanted something that could fit 4 (they are small). The 911 was really my only option. Thing is, the first one I drove all I could think was "meh". Similar to you, the more I drove one, the more I liked it. The one that put it over the top was a 996 C4S on a nice long test drive. While I ultimately ended up with a 997 C2, I have no regrets - taken a few long road trips with the family (and a few short without the family). Periodically I think about selling it but then I go for a drive. I suspect you'll miss it.

I've never liked 911's either. I think the biggest issue for me is how common they are, I used to see them all the time, meaning they stop being interesting or special. If you are spending that much on a car, theres just more interesting options out there, yes, I'm sure it does drive great and is reliable etc etc, but as you say in the video, it just isn't exciting, and for that money it should be. I think a 996 turbo in silver with tinted windows looks good, and the 996 shape isn't bad, but it's a shape you have to really work at appreciating, whereas there's plenty else out there which just look beautiful or cool without having to study it.

@@woodlandowl They feel a lot more...a lot more like it's an event when you go for a drive in one. Like it wants to be driven hard, like it's kinda special when you get in it. At least, a lot more than the 911s do. My dad decided that with his, he was going to drive to Belgium and hand over some money to an ex-engineer who used to design the exhaust systems for Porsche, stay over at his house, and have him make a very naughty sounding exhaust for it (that he says they should have had from factory, but they weren't allowed as it'd hurt the 911 sales or some such).
Just the noise the thing makes gets me excited now when he comes to visit. It's as far from 'just a car' as you'd expect from a 'premium' sports car.
