    I'd probably refurb the calipers in the same stock black, but if not then I would actually say Yellow would look good!

      Yeah got to admit I do like the black, but definitely tempted by red!

    Lovely car. It may sound boring but I like the current black calipers and silver indicators. Looks classy with the blue colour.

      Definitely not boring, somebody chose the car like that for a reason and it looks great!

    I've just bought a 996.1 C2 3.4 - The way forwards with these cars in my mind is keep standard and enjoy.

    From across the pond, nice car! I have a 997 with clear and they look great. Red calipers as well which stand out against the black paint. Good luck!

  • @charlie3138
    @charlie3138 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I would keep the calipers standard black, I think silver were on the 4wd cars and red is on the later 997 cars. With these its all about keeping things as they were from the factory. Same with the indicators etc. Mess about too much and it does sort of devalue the car.

    • @matimcfetridge

      I have seen a few early blue 996 with red callipers though and it just looks so good 😂

      @@matimcfetridge agreed, end of the day, it’s your car, you do whatever you want. Main thing you’ve got a 911 and they’re all brilliant. 😀

    I bought mine from a sheister last year. Turned out it needed new discs and pads plus handbrake shoes. Anyways, £2000 later after things like the bolts for the calipers had to be drilled out and helicoiled plus front calipers replaced as the bleed nipples had seized. Mine had been stood for a long time too. Funnily enough, the previous owner neglected to mention that.
    But, like you say, all these things are forgotten once you drive them. Awesome motors😃

      U got the wrong one, don´t get me wrong it´s a nice Carrera, but it´s the worst engine... If u wanne buy a 996 u have to go Turbo ore GT I know they are much more expensive, but they got the so called "Metzger" engine... I know cheapest.. but then take the cheapest Turbo ;-)

  • @spyder_man

    Looks lovely, regulator is an easy fix, calliper colour choice is a tricky one, not sure I would go red on a blue car. I had mine done red by BCS, but my car is silver. They stencilled the Porsche logos also so they are under the lacquer. I would prob go black or silver, silver with black logos will look nice. But hey Red wont be shocking if you go that way.
    As others have said suspension refresh will be coffin arms, tie rods and associated bolts. Would recommend doing the inner and outer track rods if they haven’t been done, will tighten up the steering nicely. Bilstein are a good choice, drop it 10-20mm so it looks good without being a pain to drive daily, 30mm prob too much.

    You got yourself an incredible car. Congrats. First thing you need to do is test your oil to identify of anything is floating around in your oil. Second thing is to drop the sump and see if you have any bits in your sump. Third thing to do is scope your bores from the sump to make sure you have no bore scoring. If all checks out, then the next steps have to do with preventative engine parts replacement. You have a car that will be in demand. But you have to do a few things to mitigate engine failure. (1) replace oem AOS with the UAOS. (2) replace your imsb. (3) replace your water pump. If you do these 3 things, you will mitigate the three main failure points in the engine and increase the value of the car. Enjoy!

  • @davidgray5583

    Regulators are relatively easy DIY. Will be good vid content. My 03 drives and rides like new after replacing all control arms (2 per side front , 5 per side rear ). It’s smart to do top mount and bearing plus bump stops front and top mount and bump stop rear. Final step is sway bar bushings and end links.

    I changed my window regulator as well on my 996.2 4s. Porsche is insane regarding their prices. And guess what, there is a VW regulator even with the same number for under 50€. Works fine and everything looks exactly like original.

    Personally I’d go OEM black for the callipers 🤷🏻‍♂️ If painting are you getting them refurbed so won’t seize at same time? Guess it’s all down to personal choice mate. Not a lot to spend considering the age and what a great specimen. For the indicators I’d again go OEM. Solid motor, try some mothers Mag polish or autosol and wire wool or scotch pad not too abrasive on the exhaust tip then buff

    • @matimcfetridge
      @matimcfetridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think I’m heading towards red callipers but keep the indicators smoked! I will just be doing an ‘on the car’ refresh of the brakes, sand them down and paint/sticker them up. Unless I can find a brake refurb company that is happy to let me film the process 😂
