    I haven't walked much since my dog passed away. My partner can't walk far anymore. I would walk with Jim because I don't want to carry on a conversation while walking. Happy New Year to you both.

    I walk at the gym every day but I also run on the treadmill anywhere between 20 and 30 minutes. Yesterday I ran 20 minutes and today I ran 30 minutes. Anyway, I spend about 2 hours in the mornings at the gym except for weekends which is my rest days. You need to encourage Jim to walk more.

    Hello Jim and Steve! My running days are over, so I walk also. My wife isn't really into it as she stays busy with other stuff. So, it is more of my quite time, exercise time for my dog, and a chance to talk to whoever I run into.
    This coming week, my dog and I are heading out for a week of camping. I'll use camp as a base camp to explore the high mountain desert by Paradox, Colorado (just east of Moab UT and Arches National Park). We'll hike every day; which will be a great kick off to the upcoming year's mileage.
    have a great week!

      Hi Alan, be careful out there especially if you’re in a remote area with snow. That sounds way too cold for me this time of year, but have fun. 🥶👍

      @stevesvlog thank you so much!! This will be on the high mountain desert of Colorado. So, it only gets snow showers, but doesn't really accumulate and stay. The down side is of the 6 days, none will be above freezing. And the lows will be between 1 and 12 degrees. To say I am looking forward to our short trip to Palm Springs at the end of January is an understatement!!

    This is turning into a singles video. Like long walks on beach. Playing video games and hot lunches. Lol. I used to love to walk. Until I got cancer in my leg and now it's messed up and I don't walk well. I would love to have someone like Steve to walk with. Be fun to walk and chat and enjoy your surroundings. That's one of the reasons I don't walk. I have no one to walk with. I also am a caregiver for a family member and don't have a lot of time to walk. Something I need to talk to my doctor about. I love you and Jim together. You guys laugh and have a lot of fun with each other. You both take care.

    In my unprofessional opinion, lol, it really does sound like Jim could benefit from an economical treadmill. He doesn’t need a fancy schmancy, multi-function, 100 button programmable treadmill. I’m wondering if anyone in the Coachella Valley has one that they would just want to get rid of for free to make space. You two can mount a small TV screen on the wall and watch TH-cam or a movie while walking indoors. There are even TH-cam videos of “walking Palm Springs” downtown so Jim can feel as if he’s actually out & about walking outside while still being in the comfort of air conditioning. No need to get dressed up (or dressed at all) to walk! 😂

    • @theretiredlifewithsteve
      @theretiredlifewithsteve  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good suggestion, but he doesn’t like that idea. We have tried it in the past and it’s just not like walking outdoors. Plus I really love to walk outside. He says he’s just gotten lazy and doesn’t want to walk at all. Hopefully he will change his mind at some point. I’m sure I will walk until I drop. It’s my favorite part of every day. 😎👍

    There’s a crème called topricin that doesn’t smell or burn but it will go down to the nerve. It might help. My boyfriend gets sciatic pain in his lower back and goes down his leg and there’s been times he hasn’t been able to get out of bed and I put that stuff on him three or four times and he’s able to walk after a day or two. Great for arthritis also.! Usually get it in health food stores but I’ve seen it at rite aide or cvs.

    Walking doesn't do much for weight loss but it does keep my blood sugar levels down and I think it helps with controlling blood pressure. My blood work was "pristine" last time I had it tested. Walking is definitely good for bone and muscle health as well as the heart and lungs. In fact, all organs benefit from walking. I always wear a wide brimmed (fishing) hat with a flap at the back and a mineral sunscreen spf 50.

    Hi Steve & Jim, it's interesting how diverse we all can be in relationships, but still find common ground to balance things out. I walk and get alot of exercise throughout the day, because of my occupation and my partner likewise puts out a huge amount of physical energy in relation to his work, so when it comes to timeout and relaxing, we each go our own way based on our personal preference and energy level. Last summer I developed lower back pain radiating down my leg. Decided to pay more frequent visits to my chiropractor and he discovered after x-ray that my hip was completely out of alignment...one leg shorter than the other!!🤪 It's made a big difference to discover this was the source of my pain and to have it treated so it didn't impact my mobility or desire to walk and energize my body was a good move! I think when we walk, we oxygenate our blood, which is good for our vascular and respiratory health and it also releases endorphins in the brain which gives us a sense of wellbeing. Wishing you both a happy and healthy 2024.🤗

      @theretiredlifewithsteve  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for sharing that with us Catherine. That’s awesome that you were able to discover that and hopefully rectify the issue. For Jim I think it’s more than just the pain. I am in the desert too...and have to walk early in morning in summer due to heat. In winter it's the opposite....mornings are too chilly and would rather walk later in the day when the temp. is more comfortable. In fact I was thinking of getting a treadmill for summertime to walk inside the house. I can't take the summer heat. Want to keep walking because its so good for you. Also, with frozen dinners, I don't think you should thaw them out first to cut down cook time. I think you're supposed to microwave according to directions only, for safety reasons 😀

    Its ok if jim has his own thing. If he doesn't want to walk. I think too much getting side by side can be torturous in a relationship too. Im thinking you go to Walmart together .maybe stop at a coffee shop and have a snack like a muffin and cup of coffee. Just break up your routine sometimes things change but people remain the same. Like he doesn't ask you to his games right?
    Just try not to overpower or smother each other . After all he said he does have injurues from basketball. I have have injuries too that hurt or prevent me from pounding the pavement 😅 😮
    I have weak ankles from so many sprains be from over the years. Plus a weak shin bone and knee in juries due to a fall. Which prevents me from doing any kind of distance walking.im going through treatment for edema and psoriasis or eczema they're still working on different things.
    Not everything is good for everyone.😅 So find a happy medium and take it from there..its all good in the end.

    Steve, I think you guys need to maybe have a change of pace and scenery. I like walking the Mall here in Texas. I start around 8:30 am and do 6 laps which equates to about 10,000 steps. Your out of the Sun , Rain, Fog, Cold, Heat and other elements. Everyday is different and at times I have a slower pace. Most of us are Senior Citizens and respect each other’s privacy and pace. It works for me. I enjoy walking with my ITunes.

      Hi Jose, thanks for the suggestion. We have one mall here in the desert and I did walk around the mall once many years ago. I guess it’s time to do it again lol. 😄 it’s kind of on the other side of the desert, which I guess is why I don’t do it more often. It’s about a half hour drive from where I live. But I will definitely do it at some point. Thanks for sharing your walk with us. It sounds like fun. 😎👍

    Would stretching before a walk help Jim? I need to walk more. I don't like to walk when it is too hot or snowing. I don't walk with my husband. His stride is so much greater than mine and he walks too fast. I do walk the dog, but she stops and sniffs and stares at things like a flag waving in the wind. I like to walk her before work but early in the morning in the spring all the rabbits in the neighborhood congregate on the sidewalk. They have no fear of her and just saunter off when we get close. (She has no street cred with bunnies lol)

    I have chronic sciatica. It has caused me to have to use a cane. It just hurts too much to walk.
