    You hit the nail on the head Steve....save save save for retirement when you are young that's what I would tell all the young people where I retired from. I told them don't be like me and work for 43 years save now and enjoy retirement at a young age.

    • @theretiredlifewithsteve

      Good advice Sara. Unfortunately, for most, saving doesn't seem important until it is too late to start doing it.

    After working full time as an RN mostly in critical care for 46 yrs I was thrilled to call it quits. Although my full retirement age was 66 based on my birthrate I hung it up at 65 as soon as I got my Medicare card. The amount of difference in my pensions from 65- 66 just wasn't worth considering. My last boss didn't think I would go. She is still working even though she is 5 yrs older. Best decision I ever made.🙂

    I am retired too. I worked for wells Fargo bank in calfornia and Arizona and east grand forks minnesota at my first bank. About 37 years and another 2 years at another place then i retired at 62. I have social security now and retired life insurance. My job at the bank was i worked at a machine wirh deposits checks cash back and cash in papers. Made sure when people deposited something at the bank with a teller that it was added right and all the checks were there if a problem we wrote up a slip with reasons why. Then put item in machine to balance the transaction. i also ran big back to back items like a debit and credit for 1 million dollars sometimes and it had to be checked by higher ups that it was correct. Seeing those big single transactions always got me nervous. Hope you understand what i did. Near the end in 2013 they got a machine to do my job so I was let go with others. I can still remember that. I did that job right from high school. Sorry to go on and on. I enjoyed your video.😮

    You're honest Steve about the advertising revenue. That's why people are attracted to your YT videos. Open and honest dialogue by you is why your channel is popular. I'm looking for more 'dream team' videos from you and Scott-on-Tape. Perhaps you would consider vlogs for the Tall Trees in Northern California, Big Sur, the San Diego Zoo and Naval port, 29 Palms, Knotts Berry Farm or the BART system in San Francisco. Just some ideas for you as it is understood you are Californiacentric.

    Hello Steve and Jim. Ha....I have obviously not started your video library from the beginning. Congrats to you both for successful careers! That is really really awesome. And, it is cool that you both have different strengths; I'd think that should complement each other really well.
    My mentors in the service always told me "you'll know when it is time" to retire. And...though I didn't feel like that was the case, even when I was like 5 years out, it definitely became true in the end! I got to the point that I only enjoyed the challenges of our combat deployments, which I began to feel was kind of weird. So, I hung it up. And then I bridged over to a completely different career after retiring from the service.
    As I've eluded previously, I'm 55 now and was kind of planning to retire at 60. I'm guessing that will need to be adjusted a bit now with our newly acquired place in Palm Springs. The interest rate is horrible; it was like the worst time to buy something. But, I'll work to either refinance or recast the loan to get my monthly payment back down to a normal level; and then could retire and just continue paying the mortgage with my retirement. In theory, at least hehehehe.

    Omg you have the least amount of ads I’ve seen. Some channels have them every few minutes and they’re long and there’s more than 1 in an ad break! I’ve never had an issue with your ads and try to let them play as much as possible. When I was in high school, I took accounting classes and some law classes and figured I’d be an accountant or a lawyer. Turns out I didn’t like school anymore after high school, so I did neither! Lol. 😂 But I don’t think I’d have guessed either of those occupations for you guys.

      @@theretiredlifewithsteve that is so true! I love learning about people and finding out what makes them tick. Everyone says “you are not your job” but knowing what a person’s job is/was can tell you a lot about them. As a single mom, I delivered pizza for many years so I could work part time and make full time money, due to tips. That way I could be home w my kids since I had no one to help me. Now I consider myself a professional driver, even though I’m retired and home all the time. 😂

    Going to try and keep TH-cam as a hobby! As your starting your second TH-cam channel!! 🤣🤣 By the way, there were only 2, 6 second commericials at the beginning of the video, and none in the middle. So I don't know what their complaining about. I imagaine you get about $10 or $12 per thousand views. Seems pretty standard for a vlog style video. Gaming is less, finance and business is more. Did I get close??

    • @theretiredlifewithsteve
      @theretiredlifewithsteve  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Scrapcash2, TH-cam does not allow you to monitize your channel until you have at least 1,000 subscribers and at least 4,000 hours of view time per month. So, this channel does not make any money from advertising and probably never will. All revenue from ads on this channel go 100 percent to TH-cam. On my other channel I do make money from ads, but I've never calculated it. I've heard that it averages less than a penny per ad view. BUT all advertisers pay different amounts, depending on the channel, the video, etc. I don't even know if Adsense calculates it so you know how much revenue you get per video. They just email the revenue each month, with no breakdown or way to calculate it. Now you've made me curious. I will have to go to their site and see if there is a way to figure it out.

    I’m just seeing this video, and even though you made this one two years ago I have a question about the advertising. Do you make the same amount of money from the advertising if the add is a minute or less or more? I don’t mind the adds and I usually just do something different while they are playing as I know the importance of them for you, but come on really the ads that are several minutes longer than the actual video content is a little bit much. So I am asking do TH-camrs lose money on my deleting those long play ads?

    • @theretiredlifewithsteve
      @theretiredlifewithsteve  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi country boy, I didn’t know that TH-cam had long ads in these videos. I watch hundreds of TH-cam videos every week at the ads I see are usually just 5 to 10 seconds long. Sometimes there are two of them but I’ve never seen a long ad like you do with regular TV. Are you seeing really long ads on my videos? I sure hope not. If you are feel free to click pass them. TH-cam doesn’t breakdown what we make on advertising per ad. We just got paid a lump sum at the end of each month and we have no idea how many ads ran or how much we got paid for each ad. And every advertiser pays different amounts depending on the ad and depending on the channel where they place the ads. So I have no idea how many ads are running on my videos or how much I make from each of them. TH-cam doesn’t break it down for us, as far as I know. So, if the ads are annoying feel free to click past them when you can. 👍

    • @countryboy63077
      @countryboy63077 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Steve thanks for your answering my question as I do get those long ads. Most are like you said 15 to 20 seconds. The ones that longer (up too two minutes I just turn down the volume and play solitaire. The really long ones I skip over unless they grab my attention. Ive I don’t think that I’ve had an extremely long one with your channels. I normally watch both if they are short ones, and at times most the under two minutes ones as I knew that you earned revenue. However I shall not feel guilty now for not watching the extremely long adds on my favorite channels. Just know that your very much appreciated, and I enjoy seeing you with Jim, and your adventures in the many cemeteries across the country.

      OMG, so sorry to hear that, Robert. It has to be one of the most difficult and stressful jobs anyone can do. Especially in this past year or so. Hopefully you can take some joy out of know that you are helping lots of people in their extreme time of need!

      Thanks for doing that Dorothy and thanks for the feedback. I never see the ads, so I didn't know they were embarrassing. Sorry about that.

      @@dorotheawalker7985 Hi Dorothea, OMG, how bizarre! No, I haven't seen any ads on this channel. TH-cam does not allow TH-camrs to have ads on their channels until they have over 1,000 subscribers. Which I will probably never have on this channel :-) So, thanks, but no need to watch these ads. I don't receive a penny from them. They are placed by YT and YT makes all the money. I had no idea they were placing sexual ads like that. Especially ironic since they will not let creators have ads on videos they consider to be sexual in nature! Talk about a double standars, LOL :-)

    Do you make good money from TH-cam?

    • @theretiredlifewithsteve
      @theretiredlifewithsteve  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Tim, LOL, definitely not. TH-cam does not allow you to even monitize your videos with ads until you have 1,000 subscribers and at least 4,000 views per month. I'm not sure this channel will ever get 1,000 viewers, lol. :-) Any ads you see now, TH-cam is getting 100 percent of the revenue. If we ever do get ads on this channel, you just make a few pennies per ad view, so you don't make much unless you have a channel that gets hundreds of thousands of views per month. If you get millions of views you can make good money on TH-cam, but this isn't the kind of channel to ever do that. I was referring to my other channel, that does make money from ads. It's not a lot, but does help pay for gas and hotels to make the trips I make on the other channel, Visiting Gravesites With Steve. I plan to make a video about this topic at some point.

    The majority of baby boomers will not retire and work till we drop dead, lol. I plan on doing that, I started working at age 16 or 17 and always had a job till the pandemic. After I feel safe and infection rates come down here in south Florida, next year I hope, I'll return to the job force and work temp jobs. I wanted to be safe about it because I don't want to make my partner sick since he's older. I'll reassess my life again at age 65. I like working, there are places I don't like working at, LOL. It will keep me busy mentally and physically. I workout 5 days a week and enjoy it as much as I enjoy working in general.
