Honestly, fucking mad respect to everyone involved here. First of all, the pilot managed to bring the plane down without destroying it or the people inside. The passengers never panicked... like at all. Cool as a bloody cucumber. After the impact they acted swiftly, grabbed their life jackets, and evacuated in a completely civil manner, and my boy even managed to film the entire thing. These passengers deserve some kind of award. GOAT status right there. Literally with a different group of people this could have looked completely different.
They were screaming their heads off. How could you not know the audio track has been manipulated to nearly completely elliminate voices while the high frequencies have been amplified.
Lucky for them it was warm water, AND they're within easy reach of the coastline, AND the pilot was able to ditch successfully. All together, a small miracle in a situation that had the potential to go a whole lot worse. Oh, and someone on board had a GoPro AND camera skills like a boss.
"Tried to swim for cooler I saw, but wind and current too strong and cooler went!" He knew the beer was key to survival if no one came to find them. Hats off to that Captain.
Austin Henning Because it’s too expensive to keep coast guard cutters all around Hawaii. They usually station the boats offshore near popular beaches, not in open water like this.
Nice to see, there was probably little danger in the warm waters, it look like everyone for themselves. No organization, they should have stayed close, someone who could swim should have been cleanup because the math says there are non-swimmers on that plane.
Shame that it kinda turned into "every man for themselves" once they started trying to swim to shore. It's unfortunate no one made at least some kind of attempt to keep everyone together to be sure no one was struggling or falling behind. It's also not uncommon that small planes like that can stay partially afloat for several hours or more after crashing. So it's even more of a shame that no one (in particular the pilot) encouraged everyone to stay hanging onto the plane with 2 people on each wing and a person each hanging on to each smaller tail wing until they were either sure it was about to sink or help arrived. Judging by that photos taken from a rescue/recon plane that flew over and the recovered fusillade, it would seem the aircraft did in fact stay afloat. All this only serves to say that - everyone could've gone home that day and it's a painful tragedy that someone had to lose their life in that situation. Look out for each other people.
Come on, it's a plane crash ! You're speculating from your fooking tea room, try to imagine to be in a tiny place getting full of water with people scared

My biggest fear is being in a plane. Because I can’t control being up there. I’ve been saying I want to take the course to be able to fly. After this NO WAY

They should of stayed with the plane until it sank imo. Only a fit, elite swimmer should attempt to swim in the open ocean considering distances and rip currents!

@@justmissjamey I'm a mariner and have lost many friends, who were, like all mariners trained in survival. Saying the land was right there means nothing, I knew a guy who drowned and didn't make it because he decided to "let go" even though the chopper was just hovering him, so he was nearly out. Its quite tricky to just lie on your back in open water, because you keep swallowing water which I guess is scary if you know nothing about the sea, and we're just in a plane crash.
There's no panic no screaming or yelling, this is actually very peaceful sounding. I just found my new bedtime soothing sounds. Between the narrator and the water sounds. Very calming and peaceful. Rip to those that passed away from this tragedy.
Pro Tip: You can use your lungs as a life jacket in case the life jacket isn't working for you. For as long as you can stay awake, that is. 1) Float on your back 2) take as deep a breath as you can. Your torso will now rise towards the surface 3) now breathe as necessary, but breathe extremely shallowly. Leave most of the air in your lungs at all times. The air in your lungs is now creating enough buoyancy for you to float without the need to waste energy treading water. This allows you to calm down and breathe more slowly/shallowly. I don't know how heavy you need to be for this _not_ to work, but I have practiced this technique successfully several times and I'm 210 lbs. Floating on the surface without treading water and without swallowing water. I think you could probably be materially heavier and it would still work. But yeah I'm sure there are some people who are so heavy, this will not work. Just keep it in the back of your head in case your life jacket is too small when your plane touches down in the water ;)
Yes, my dad was an excellent swimmer and taught me this. He also showed me methods for treading water when you get tired by only swimming with one arm, letting the other rest.. Also if someone is panicking because they don't know how to swim dont try to hug them but instead stick out your foot. A panicking person can drag you down by trying to stay afloat themselves. Lay on your back and let them hold your legs instead, so that your arms are free at all times. Atleast until they calm down.
The fatter a person is the easier it is to float, think of it as a blubbery mass that has buoyance. The more muscular and lean you are the harder it is to float, you're like a heavy rock.
I'm only 155 pounds and have always found it difficult to float. It's definately not as difficult in salt water but I still can't last very long. A lot of people that survive in the ocean for long periods of time are overweight and can float easier
I love how nobody preps for the water or grabs their life vest until the plane is already sinking... Didn't see a single person making arrangements to evacuate the plane until it was in the water
Sawyer Tilley this is absolutely ill preparation. Panic makes people act weird, but it doesn’t make this many people react in exactly the same way like this. They’re all looking forward to their pilot, and they’re mirroring him. He’s silent, obviously he’s concentrating... but they seem like they literally don’t know what else to do. I get that he needs to fly the plane and concentrate, but he didn’t even yell one “BRACE!” before impact, let alone something like “life jackets, seat pockets! DO NOT inflate inside plane! BRACE!” He could’ve yelled that in about 5 seconds anytime after he realized they might be going down in water. This does NOT make sense to me. I was able to yell more instructions to my passengers during a high speed car accident as a teenager, and I didn’t have hours and hours of training drilled in my head. He could’ve done SOMETHING. I’m a little angry about that (clearly), but I will definitely say this for him: no safety instructions would’ve even remotely mattered if his flying wasn’t so very well done. But he easily could’ve (and should’ve) done both.
He had 16,000 total flight hours in Boeing 737's, 777's and multiple small aircrafts. He definitely was experienced. The mistake here was the engine on the plane was suppose to be overhauled/rebuilt from my understanding of what I read. It had gone passed the manufacturers recommended limit of use.
PCPofficial that airplane hit the water fully or very close to stalled, almost no forward momentum. That horn went on for a while. That means he was not correcting by lowering the aoa. He should have dropped the nose to gain more speed and initiate a flare close to the water.
@@AMCguy probably panic is a factor too. When they realize they aren't getting closer to the shore, they push more and more, ending up getting cramps or something.
Yep, I love videos like this. Channel "What You Haven't seen" does something similar: th-cam.com/channels/UZ8u8rXpOwr73krPO9UYpQ.html - publishing original footage from events like this with extensive additional information given.

Hell yea that's what I said you damn well see that plane fitna hit sea and it ain't a sea plane I'm having the jacket snorkel and all on before the water!!
You are not suppose to put on inflated life vest before hitting water. If water rushes in you could get stuck. You could however put it on and not inflate it.
He probably was a surfer or a seaman , that’s honestly one of the safest things to do in that situation if the current permits , rather than just randomly drift and get swept out further
@@gunther_hermann How far away it is from shore? 2-3km? I have shit cardio and I could propably made it without vest. Just make stops every few minutes to get more oxygen and give muscles a rest
Regarding the fatally injured passenger: The autopsy of the passenger did not reveal any significant traumatic injuries, and the autopsy report noted that her cause of death was “acute cardiac arrhythmia due to hyperventilation.” So the crash didn't kill her directly, rather caused a secondary issue that claimed her life.
It's very important that you always listen to instructions and the demonstrations during the safety briefing. When planes ditch over water as a result of an emergency, your first instinct will be to take your life jacket and inflate it for safety. But please DO NOT inflate it until you are outside the plane. reason: Water could get into the plane and you could have a hard time getting out because you will be floating in the water while the plane is filling up with water. When you try to go under the water to reach the exit,it WONT be possible because A life jacket makes you float. You may die in the plane if your life Jacket is inflated before you exit. ONLY inflate your life jacket only when you are out of the plane. Thanks
Fairs . But isnt it risky jumping in the water and doing it because it's freezing cold . U might as well do quickly do it then jump out so your ready . I'm sure water doesn't fill up that quickly if u can tell ?
@@samexelby8715 You can do it before jumping out. But its advisable to do it when you know you are at the exit and can safely get out. Doing it anytime before you get out can get it punctured by any sharp metal in the plane. And if you are not a good swimmer, you could drown easily. Thanks
@@samexelby8715 Water doesn't fill up that quickly in this video.

Look around to see who may be injured and send them out first?
Or be super fat.
Atleast until they calm down.
not even accounting for saltwater buoyancy, very effective technique
The fatter a person is the easier it is to float, think of it as a blubbery mass that has buoyance. The more muscular and lean you are the harder it is to float, you're like a heavy rock.
I'm only 155 pounds and have always found it difficult to float. It's definately not as difficult in salt water but I still can't last very long. A lot of people that survive in the ocean for long periods of time are overweight and can float easier
The Morgan freeman narration is comforting.
Thank you.
I love how nobody preps for the water or grabs their life vest until the plane is already sinking... Didn't see a single person making arrangements to evacuate the plane until it was in the water
Very strange!
Panic makes people act weird.

Thanks

@@samexelby8715 You can do it before jumping out. But its advisable to do it when you know you are at the exit and can safely get out. Doing it anytime before you get out can get it punctured by any sharp metal in the plane. And if you are not a good swimmer, you could drown easily. Thanks
