Amazing video! The look on DeFrancesco's face from 1'34-1'50 says it all. I once read a comment by some whose tag was 'It'sAllintheDNA' and this is probably the case with DeFrancisco since his father was a B-3 jazz musician who started him playing piano at 4 and taking him to night clubs when he was 7 yo. By the way ... I have read some comments from folks that it takes more than facial expressions in respect to Joey's playing. All I can say is ... the sound is what counts ... so what the hell are you listening to?
All the "Hammond" Players does this nowadays. He prolly got 10k extra Euros for using it from KeyB for that performance. Difference is I don't think Joey is having any endorsing contracts like some other players have. He just randomly is seen playing various clonewheels, including Hammonds own clone "New B3" and now XK-5. And lets face it, at some point people will change over to pure clone wheelz use as its just not feasable to keep repearing the old B3's. Some of them are nearing an age of 65 years, and some of the parts can't be replaced by "original" parts anymore, so how many "un-original" parts does it take before the "Real" thing becomes a clone itself ? :) Like you pointed out, It doesn't really matter what instruments they use for these musicians .. they always sound great, even tho some people think its sacrillisous to play anything else than a "Real" B3 :) And most people actually wont be able to tell the difference if they just hear it and don't see what the instrument looks like. And even trained ears can be fooled as no B3 sounds the same, and clones is starting to get so close that only very trained ears can hear the subtle differences, so its a question if its just nit picking, and most of the modern players want something that is modern and can do more than just the hammond sound, and don't break something each time its moved around .. if not the electrical circuits then your back ... :)
very nice! haven't seen any video with hammond and piano playing together till now :-) But it's a bit of a pity that joey isn't playing a "real" tonewheel Hammond... anyway, a great piece of music!!

The KeyB sounds good, but one can hear the difference to a B3... though Joey´s playing is flawless,as always!
