I hope you enjoyed today's video! The opening music is The Music Box by Luke Faulkner & Mark Serkin th-cam.com/video/iaQ1I6LGCqk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qKBUcQsstudm01Qo I invite you to sign up for my free monthly newsletter at jenniferlscott.com/ (enter your email in the top lefthand corner and hit subscribe). I would love to know about your evening routine. My routine wasn't always this peaceful... I'll share more about the evolution of my routine in a future video. Thank you for watching! Love, Jennifer
I really feel inspired by this video to read more myself in the evenings. We always read to the kids before bedtime, each child gets an age appropriate book read to them after we pray a family rosary each night. My oldest is 8 and we have been working on reading some classic literature with her, which is such a gift for us as adults too. We have read all the Little House books and the full Chronicles of Narnia. We recently read the original Robin Hood tales and are now working through Little Women. We also do a very early dinner, around 5 and kids are in bed between 7 and 8 depending on their age. It's a good routine but could use some improving still :-D
My mom read to my siblings and me. I’m the oldest of 4, and 10 years ahead of the youngest, so as a teenager part of me was like “I’m too old for this” - but it didn’t stop me from curling up in the living room with an adult coloring book to listen to my mom read Tolkien.
It's a beautiful thing to do and something both my husband and I loved to do with our children. My son still remembers his Dad asking him if he wanted to listen to him reading in a favourite accent or like something from a favourite TV show, it's lovely he has these memories and reminds me of my husband's funny sense of humour. I was quite old school about it but looking back I'm so glad they had lots of laughs and fun as well😅
Your wholesome, calm and elegant lifestyle is such a triumph and inspiration to us all. Thank you for maintaining pride in your standards. You are so special, Jennifer! ❤
Dear Jennifer, Thank you for another beautiful video. I also do my skincare in the evening (morning as well). Reading is another great way to wind down! It is beautiful that you read to your children. You are creating life-long memories with them for sure--and instilling a love of reading in them. Walking is another favorite part of the evenings for us. I 100% respect you and your family's choice not to feature other members of the family in your videos. In a world where over-sharing is the norm, your demeanor is refreshing.
Reading to your children is a wonderful experience for both you and them. As a dyslexic person once we got past the books, I could memorize I was concerned that my uneven reading would create problems for my son, but there was no reason to fear as he took over and was so proud to show me how it was done. While he was an advanced reader from an early age this “showing Mommy” gave him extra confidence. We still talk about those afternoon and evenings he would read books to me, and now he is an adult (in Law School) he understands why he did most of the reading. For any others that might have my difficulty don’t count yourself out just let your kids lead if they’re willing. All things done in love work for the good. Happy reading!
My son is dyslexic and I read to him every night until he was 12-13 and we read many of the classics together. My daughter on the other hand was an advanced reader from an early age so she got inpatient with my reading after a while and insisted reading to me which she did also until about 12-13. It was a great time for all of us. And as a full-time working mum was a way of spending quality time with them even when I was tired I never skipped it. ❤
I do love that you read with your children as part of your evening routine. My father always read with us children when I was a child and it has been a cherished memory even now as an adult. My evening routine consists of habits I have been working on from the Flylady system as well as journaling, learning a new language, planning the next day, and reading. Your evening routine is very calm and peaceful. Love it!
We’re reading through Narnia together as a family right now. It’s so wonderful! I missed it somehow as a child, so I’m discovering it new along with my children. I highly recommend publication order and starting with “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.” It allows you to “discover Narnia through the wardrobe with Lucy.” I think that’s a beautiful way to begin the story. ❤️
Thank you for sharing your evening routine, Jennifer. Nancy Kelly (a homeschool mentor mom) taught me a long time ago to cut out things until there is peace. Now, this was related specifically to curriculum and the routine of a homeschooling day but I find it to be a life principal, too. It certainly seems like your evenings are peaceful and delightful. Eating dinner early would give a lot more opportunity to ease into our family's evening routine but that is not the season we are in. My routine is similar to yours in many ways except I do not play the piano currently nor do I do skin care in the tub (although that intrigues me now!). Love, Melissa
This looks like an absolutely beautiful and relaxing routine. My evenings routine often looks like last night night which involved taking my daughters to gymnastics from five until seven. Then grabbing a fast food dinner, returning home, giving them a bath, putting them to bed and finally making a cup of tea for my husband and I. we got into bed and watched a tv show together. He went to sleep and I read for about 15 minutes finally turning off the light and going to sleep. I don’t think women should beat themselves up about not having a wonderful classy evening routine. All of our lives are different. All of our seasons of life are different. I say, take each day and evening, and fill it with even one special thing. In a perfect world I would make a lovely, homemade dinner and relax with my family all evening. It just doesn’t work that way most nights I will say I find it difficult to read and do all the things I want to do as my spouse wants to spend time with me mainly watching TV. I can’t be the only woman whose husband loves TV, it’s important to spend time with him doing an activity he likes as well. This is just my two cents.
Personally, I despise the television. I ask my husband to please go upstairs to watch it. He does. Then I clean up dinner, s sweep the door, clean all countertops and appliances. Take care of the dog. Look at my to do for the next day. Bring up more meat to thaw from the basement. Take out clothes from the dryer and fold them and out the next batch of laundry in the dryer. Turn down my bed. Set up clothes and towel for the next days shower, head back downstairs to take supplements, and fold more laundry. Take care of the dog again. Turn out the lights. Pray and okay with phone in bed while wearing my blue blocker glasses. Then asleep. I’m 60 years old. I actually thought, I’d have more time. Haha
I LOVE The song "All I ask of You"!!!!!! I love Emily Dickinson too---I was an English and American literature major at university. I love Edgar Allen Poe and so many other American and English writers.
Thank you for sharing this, Jennifer! My evening routine is in need of a makeover, but long-time habits are so hard to break! Seeing what you do with your evening hours is inspiring, ESPECIALLY because your children are awake for much of your routine. As a mama of six, I’ve been putting off many of my desired evening events (like taking a bath) until the children all go to bed, which perhaps is where I’m failing. By the time the children go to bed, I’m too tired to successfully attempt new habits. Also, how much better to model an intentional, healthful evening routine for the children! 😊
Jennifer, you brought back memories of my mother reading aloud to my brother and me. What a lovely recollection. I can still hear her voice reading Hiawatha. "By the shores of Gitche Gumee, by the shining Big-Sea-Water"....what a gift she gave us! Now remembering so many more she read to us and I've not thought of this for a long time. Thank you!
Dear Jennifer, Your reading selections lead me to believe that you were either an English major or raised in a home with one. I love Wordsworth. Have you ever read the Father Tim series? Otherwise known as Mitford. He loves Wordsworth, too. The new walls in your piano room look beautiful and serene in the evening.
My daughter and I were so excited to hear that your family is reading through Narnia, and I are reading the voyage of the Dawn treader. We are on that book right now as well!!! it is one of our joys to read together as a family in the evening! Thanks for giving us the sneak peek into your evening routine. I’ve been slowly creating an evening routine, but it is helpful to see how you start yours and then put the kids to bed in the middle of it instead of all after it.
Thank you for showing your plate. I need to reset my expectation of what's a reasonable portion. I need to see it visually a million times to counter what I see in restaurants. Due to my fast metabolism, I've allowed my portion control to get away from me. Now that I'm in my 40s, I'm trying to reign that in. So thanks for showing what amount I'm supposed to be eating!
Love your videos as always jennifer! Cant wait to see your other renovations and would love to see a winter skincare/makeup update or organization video, like a wardrobe tour but for your vanity.
My husband and I will sometimes choose a book to read aloud to each other at night. We just returned from SE Asia and have decided to read "The Ramayana" after having seen it depicted in three countries. It's been slow-going due to football season.😂
I read the Good Earth to my future husband when we were in High School, it's one of my favorite books. That's lovely that you read out loud to each other. We usually just watch a movie together; we take turns choosing the movies.
I love how you have an early dinner. I try to eat dinner as early as 5pm when im not working a late shift. Its so luxurious to have that extra time after dinner is done and dusted. Its summer here so going for a walk while its still light is a pleasure. Early dinner is also better for my sleep and works well with intermittant fasting. To me its the cornerstone of a perfect evening.
I love you see others routines. I sometimes come across something I would like to add to mine. I think reading aloud to the family would be a wonderful addition. Thank you ❤
Thank you thank you for these routines videos. I need inspiration and support in this arena. I’m still blown away by your commitment and efficiency. I need help troubleshooting. Thank you for what you do
Luke Faulkner would be proud of your piano 🎹 practice ❤ I love my evening routine. We are living in Florida for the winter months of Jan and Feb( I’m from West Michigan) I’m trying to continue my “normal” routine but it has taken time because I feel like I’m on vacation. Thank you Jennifer
I enjoyed seeing your night time routine. I have one that is very peaceful for me. After dinner, i put the house to bed by turning on lamps and lighting candles and turning off tge harsh overhead lights. Clean the kitchen, practice my Spanish lesson, send a few letters and cards and then read. I take my makeup off and drink a glass of water and go to bed.
I read to my kids every day too. I’m currently reading Holes to them but when we finish that we are starting the chronicles of narnia for the second time. It’s been years since we read the series and the boys have forgotten it.
I know I"m late to this vlog, but I am TOTALLY singing out loud to your playing of All I Ask of You from Phantom. My favorite musical of all time. Love it so much.
QUESTION: Many of us would love to know your basic times for fitting all of this in~ you began with dinner, piano, kitchen, games or reading etc etc ~ can you give us any time frames including bedtime to possibly guide us in our own evenings? Thank you very much for another terrific video.
I''m working on a future video where I share my evening routine in the past vs. my routine now. A lot has changed. So I'll go over times more in that video. But generally I'm in bed reading by 9:30/ 10... everything (times) ebbs and flows between 5pm and 10pm.
@@TheDailyConnoisseurWow. You transitioned a lot in five hours. How king did you play the piano for? I can’t imagine being this in task and enjoying it. Incredible, but I have ADD.
im alone my girls are independet now i love watch you night routine ,i sport in the evening cook my own diner aswell en in the morning the grocery shopping i live small apartement ut i try to keep ontrack.i clean my face before to bed end in the morning. at night i pray and meditate it helps me to calm down love watching yor videos
We are also reading the Chronicles Of Narnia! There’s a fantastic book called The Family Guide To Narnia that relates each chapter in each book to scripture. We love it so far!
The Phantom of the Opera is my favourite musical by far, and I've been lucky enough to see it in both London and New York. The lyrics that you admire so much Jennifer were co-written by a couple of British librettists - Richard Stilgoe and Charles Hart. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music.
That was my first Broadway show ever, so it's very special! It was Christmas Day and we got upgraded to box seats (probably because it was quite empty 😊) and the whole evening was just magical. 😍
As soon as those opening notes played on the piano, I thought to myself, "Jennifer's playing my favorite melody from The Phantom!" 🧡👏🏼 The Lily Silk lace blouse looks so charming on you that I've been considering getting it too, after I returned the last purchase I made from them. Unfortunately, the code you shared doesn't seem to be working. 😢 Lastly, I recently discovered an Indian-Canadian brand called Sahajan and absolutely love their oil cleanser/makeup remover and their night sleep mask! Sharing in case anyone is looking for new skincare! 🧡
Lovely video Jennifer 🥰 It makes me realise that I’m watching far too much telly! Do you not watch any at all? I would love to break this habit because I do love reading, and could do with earlier nights and more sleep! Love Helen ❤
I watch TH-cam from about 7:30-9:30. Then do my face care, read, pray and journal until ten. I think two hours is too much. Since I gotten older, it seems like that's what I do.
So calming. I'm inspired as well to start playing piano at night 🌙we too love pur table linens. Do you have a video about the care of the napkins and table cloths? And the products you use to keep them clean or reduce stains? Thankyou as always, great video❤
This is based off of what i learned from dr dray, but your cleanser contains a pha. It might be too much to also exfoliate at the same time. I would consider using the exfoliator when youre not using that cleanser. Also, vit c can also be used in the am (under sunscreen) as an antioxidant.
☆☆☆All the plants are in bathroom are beautiful and the parlor is so cozy with the new color! Jennifer how do you find time to be so well rounded with household responsibilities and cultivating personal interests? I start out with good intentions to make time for both but most often responsibilities win out. I feel I'm missing out somehow with this and would like to do better. Would you consider a video on this topic?
Emily Dickinson suffering from CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) from the biographical material that I have read. CFS is not a modern-day conundrum. Florence Nightingale, too, suffered from CFS.
Hello Jennifer, Your front room makeover is remarkable! Your personal decorating details are beautiful in each room you shared. After dinner, I check if any laundry loads need changed and ask the girls to wash colored napkins or bleach the kitchen towels & cloths. After some general tidying of errand purchases or deliveries, I wash off my makeup and use my red light therapy mat while listening to the Andrew Huberman or Ben Greenfield Life podcast. Then I shower and finish using natural facial products including a special oil blend (natural retinal) and doing gua sha facial routine. I might check messages, decompress, then say goodnight to all my family as I’m generally the first to bed. I listen to an audiobook book while falling asleep.
Since you are obsessed with Emily Dickinson, I thought you would love the book. Emily Dickinson's Gardening Life. By Marta McDowell. Lovely photos and shows a different side of Emily. The author also wrote The Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life. Both lovely books.
I so enjoy your content! I love it! I watched your morning routine as well a little while ago. So when do you actually wash your hair?? Morning or evening?
Dear Jennifer, where is the city scape painting, one with the beautiful ornate frame in your family room from? I'm in search of art for our home and so inspired by your gallery walls. My son and I read most evenings. I treasure these moments with him and hope it instills a love of reading and books as he grows up. Love, Teri
Tell me more about that crab stuffed salmon...does it come that way or did you make it from scratch? I don't know why I ask because most things that are delicious have gluten which I can't eat! 😭
As always, it’s a pleasure to watch your videos 🤍 I used to read to my kids everyday when they were younger and I’m so glad I did. Both my kids are avid readers with excellent writing skills.
TH-cam being annoying blocked my other comment: Othee book suggestions: the boxcar children (the first book) is really good for kids and adults, little women, and Harry potter series. I think you may have already done little women? If so, the 94 version (aka the best version!) Is available for free on TH-cam. It is the perfect cozy winter movie. I watched it at a sleepover as a young kid and its been one of my favorites as a kid, and eventually i read the book. My other suggestion would be bride and prejudice but i think the dialogue/language is too outdated for young kids to understand imo. Great read though. Those who are interested the keira knightly version is free on TH-cam, even though i didn't particularly think her portrayal of Lizzy is accurate 😅
Jennifer, how have you learned to play the piano? Do you have a teacher or did you use an o line study. We’ve had a nice electric piano in our living room from 2 Christmas’s ago, and no one has learned to play. Regarding the night routine, I am participating in a 30 day art challenge and I also am reading the Bible in a Year, so those are 2 things That have prevented me from just watching TV at night. It seems I’m generally just spending my nights cleaning up. Not so relaxing, I would like them to feel more open.
Have you read “Undersong” by Kathleen Winter? It is also about Dorothy Wordsworth. The novel is beautiful and made me think about womanhood, family and the poetry in everyday life.
My friend and t thought it was neat that a Victoria writer had a you tube channel even though we didn't know who you were, unlike prior writers in residence She mentioned she commented on her complete Victoria collection as well as Anne of Green Gables only to have it deleted. I would have thought those things were common ground. We also notice you liked Tasha Tudor. She's still unsure why her comment was deleted and now we won't subscribe after all.
Jennifer, I know you dont show your children, which I totally respect and understand. But how old are they? and how many do you have? and they homeschool right? just curious!
I don't remember her kiddos ages but I believe they have 4 and their youngest is an older toddler or preschooler maybe. I am working on having a calmer night time routine like this, some of it we already do like an early dinner and read aloud time with our kids and a family rosary before they go to bed. We put our kids to bed early (youngest in bed first starting around 7ish with our oldest in bed by 8), so my husband and I have time together or quiet time alone if we need it. We are in the season of very young children ages 9 months, 3 years, 4 years and 8 years and we homeschool. A good night time routine is very important or there would simply be no rest IMO.

Where can we buy the decanter? Thank you.

Jennifer, I have ENORMOUS respect for you, for not featuring your family much, especially your kids. They deserve privacy. Thank you for that.
Reading to your kids everyday has a major impact on how well they do in school.
It definitely does. So many benefits!

I enjoy your “routine” videos so much! Ah the calm you bring to evening tasks! ❤
Thank you! ♥
I love reading to my son at night before bed. He never wants me to stop! We are currently reading A Wrinkle in Time.
What a great book! I love it.

Yes, I make it a point to do these things while they are awake. They need to see mom having a healthy evening routine too...

Just found your channel. So inspired! Looking for an evening routine for myself, divorced and retired, and I love this video! Thank you ❤
Most times I feel guilty if I take care of myself. Your videos remind me that it's ok to treat myself well.
One of my favorite read aloud was Swiss Family Robinson!

Same here! In my 50's though. For sure don't need the portions I give myself.
Thank you, Jennifer. I've been inspired by you to read The Secret Garden ti my daughter ❤
I love bath time in the winter. Warms me up & relaxes me.

@@TheDailyConnoisseur Thank you so very much.
@@TheDailyConnoisseurWow. You transitioned a lot in five hours. How king did you play the piano for? I can’t imagine being this in task and enjoying it. Incredible, but I have ADD.

What a truly beautiful video 💕
What another lovely video Jennifer. I love the blend of things just for you, plus family time for your self care.
When time allows, please give us a report on the Dorothy Wordsworth book. I, too, am interested in the brother and sister poets.
I homeschooled my chi 7:02 ldren & read to them from good books ala Charlotte Mason
As soon as those opening notes played on the piano, I thought to myself, "Jennifer's playing my favorite melody from The Phantom!" 🧡👏🏼
The Lily Silk lace blouse looks so charming on you that I've been considering getting it too, after I returned the last purchase I made from them. Unfortunately, the code you shared doesn't seem to be working. 😢
Lastly, I recently discovered an Indian-Canadian brand called Sahajan and absolutely love their oil cleanser/makeup remover and their night sleep mask! Sharing in case anyone is looking for new skincare! 🧡
My favorite song from Phantom as well.
What are the ingredients of the oil cleanser?
Thanks for sharing your piano playing! I'm a piano teacher, and I hope that when my students are adults, they take delight in the piano, too!
Such an enjoyable, relaxing video. Thank you, Jennifer ❤
We just finished Prince Caspian and are on to Dawn Treader next. Enjoy!
Jenn, i wish u had a directory of all the recipes u share here.
So serene and peaceful dear Jenn. TY for sharing.
Thank you! ♥
Beautiful video such a blessing to see. Love and Gods blessings from Papua New Guinea ( above Australia).
What a lovely, calm and serene night routine. I'm going to try and incorporate a bit more of this in my evening routine as mine is nothing like this 😊
Fiddle leaf fig envy❤
Lovely video Jennifer 🥰 It makes me realise that I’m watching far too much telly! Do you not watch any at all? I would love to break this habit because I do love reading, and could do with earlier nights and more sleep!
Love Helen ❤
I don't watch television. But I do watch TH-cam! I watched that Emily D. video on the night I filmed this...
I watch TH-cam from about 7:30-9:30. Then do my face care, read, pray and journal until ten. I think two hours is too much. Since I gotten older, it seems like that's what I do.
Are all your days structured? Do you follow a set pattern every day?
I'm going to talk about how my night routine has changed over the years. It didn't always look like this...
I love how you folded the fitted sheet! It was perfectly human . . . and it looked nearly the same in the end. =)
That’s how I roll! It was a long day! 😂
Emily Dickinson suffering from CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) from the biographical material that I have read. CFS is not a modern-day conundrum. Florence Nightingale, too, suffered from CFS.
Jenifer, What is the name of the music u play at the end of your video? I LOVE it!!
Love your routine, Julie!
Andrew huberman is great! Also recommend Dr. Peter attia
I'd love to know more about the red light therapy mat! How does it help you?
@@orangejammies6679 Dr dray has great videos on red light therapy 🙂
Since you are obsessed with Emily Dickinson, I thought you would love the book. Emily Dickinson's Gardening Life. By Marta McDowell. Lovely photos and shows a different side of Emily. The author also wrote The Beatrix Potter's Gardening Life. Both lovely books.
That sounds like a great book! Thank you!
@@TheDailyConnoisseur ❤️
I enjoyed your piano playing! Phantom is my favorite musical, and All I Ask of You is my favorite piece! ❤
I love it!
Do you ever annotate books while reading? I found a lovely TikTok creator who reads the classics and beautifully annotates them.
I use that Paula's Choice exfoliant. Love it!
Can you share which tablecloth this is?
I so enjoy your content! I love it! I watched your morning routine as well a little while ago. So when do you actually wash your hair?? Morning or evening?
Can you share your recipe or where you buy the salmon stuffed w crab please? Love you videos! Thanks, c
Jenn, what time do u go to bed?
I just love this video
Dear Jennifer, where is the city scape painting, one with the beautiful ornate frame in your family room from? I'm in search of art for our home and so inspired by your gallery walls. My son and I read most evenings. I treasure these moments with him and hope it instills a love of reading and books as he grows up. Love, Teri
That is an antique painting I bought on eBay several years ago of Paris. Thank you!
The plates are very beautiful 09:59 Which “company”? I would like to buy them
Tell me more about that crab stuffed salmon...does it come that way or did you make it from scratch? I don't know why I ask because most things that are delicious have gluten which I can't eat! 😭
Would you mind sharing around what time in the evening you sleep? Thank you.
She answered someone that it's usually around 10:00 pm.
Do you do flylady? or just found your own rhythm for "all of the things"? Regardless, it is beautiful and inspiring! Definitely takes some discipline.
Not sure how you can get all that done in one evening!!
Great video
As always, it’s a pleasure to watch your videos 🤍 I used to read to my kids everyday when they were younger and I’m so glad I did. Both my kids are avid readers with excellent writing skills.
♥Wonderful!
Name of beautiful PJs pls?
TH-cam being annoying blocked my other comment:
Othee book suggestions: the boxcar children (the first book) is really good for kids and adults, little women, and Harry potter series.
Lovely video! ❤
🥰
New Orleans girls are asking "Where's the sauce?" ;) XO
I wonder if E. Dickinson had some psychological problems.
