Hi Jennifer, I have been waiting for this Video with bated breath. Because of you, I started Intermittent Fasting on my first day of my 70th birthday not to lose weight, but I had issues with bloating and heartburn. So today is exactly my 3rd month of Intermittent Fasting. I sleep better, I don't run to the bathroom 5 times a day, as before, and surprisingly I have lost 7 pounds in three months. I weigh 116 pounds and feel absolutely fantastic. I am 5 feet tall so this weight is perfect for me. I am doing the 16/8, I don't eat anymore snacks or processed food and prefer this method the best. So my first meal is at 11 A.M. with yogurt and some nuts, and lunch is about 12:30 P.M. soup, or sandwich and fruit around 2 P.M., and a light dinner by 6P.M. After that the kitchen is closed!!!!! I am grateful for your insight. I did visit my doctor for a physical and ironically my doctor also is on Intermittent Fasting. I love my new lifestyle. Thank you so much.

I thought my metabolism was almost non-existent due to my age and years of yo-yo dieting, but I’m now going on my third year of Intermittent Fasting and I’ve found that I actually can lose weight and keep it off. I eat three meals a day, 16-8 method, with breakfast at 9:00, lunch around 1:00 and dinner at 5:00 with minimal variation. I occasionally snack but never after dinner. Age 68 and I’ve lost 55-60 pounds. I’d like to lose a few more pounds but if I don’t then that’s ok, too. Loving my energy, bloodwork results from my yearly physical, and it’s rare that I even get a cold. IF gave me so much energy immediately after beginning that I started daily exercise. Jennifer, I appreciate you sharing your experience and the emphasis on doing what’s right for your own body.

I have an autoimmune condition. Several years ago, I started intermittent fasting and doing one meal a day to help me with energy and menopause. That coupled with being on a Keto/Paleo diet for decades has helped me tremendously.

I enjoyed hearing about your 4 year journey. I have been fasting for 2 years now and lost 30#’s. I started with 16:8 then read Dr. Mindy’s Fast Like a Girl and also Fast, Feast, Repeat and learned so much. I frequently do OMAD but still try to vary my fasts. One of the best changes for me with fasting was the changes in my metabolic and lipid panels. In fact my Dr was thrilled. I’m 70 years old and my blood work came back perfect and I was able to eliminate medicine for high blood pressure. I would encourage those who want to fast to not only look at the weight loss benefits but the long term health benefits as well.

My 4 year intermittent fasting anniversary is in August. My weight went down to 106 for a while then up to 112 and is holding around 116-117. I’m 5’5” 1/4. The main reason I started was to help with inflammation in my hands because I was having joint pain and stiffness in the morning. When I looked up natural remedies- IF popped up. All my pain and stiffness has disappeared as well as the trigger finger! The weight loss was a side benefit. Plus, I’m such a routine person that IF fits perfectly into my life. I may bend the timeline if on vacation or out with friends but I can’t imagine not intermittent fasting since it’s become a lifestyle for me now.

I lost 90lbs in 8 months doing the opposite of IF. My hormones balanced and my periods stopped being painful and emotional. I was ovulating every month. I ate a balanced snack with protein and carbs every three hours. I ate 30g protein within an hour of waking. I never drank coffee black or on an empty stomach. I had a bedtime snack every night. I ate ice cream every day. And I had so much energy, my digestion was top notch and I slept like a baby. IF has too many nuances and experimental phases to even justify it. If you are a woman, your body needs safety signals for your metabolism to work properly and hormones to operate. Fasting is stressful. Cold plunges are stressful. Get out of the stress mode and the weight will come off.

I really wish we could connect:). I really feel truth to what you have said. I’m 41 and I’d like to louse about 15 pounds. Iv had six kids and I’m told all the time that I look great for my age and how many kids Iv had. I’d rather be a bit thinner and look better in a swimsuit😊. I always feel better when I wake up and eat protein right away as well! If I do not eat until 10:00am or so no matter how many weeks Iv tired, I just do not feel that great. I feel low, tired and stressed. Also eating an early dinner left me feeling sick by the time I went to bed. When I have eaten a good snake I sleep like a baby as well. I’m so happy IF works for so many but for me it does seem to stressful and I’m in coping mode.

Congrats on 4 years! For my whole teen/adult life, I've been doing a monthly 24 hr fast from both food and water, for religious reasons (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints). It has been a really positive thing in my life for, like you said, having the regular chance to focus on something other than digestion. I do feel like it gives my body and soul a healing break. We also give the monetary value of those skipped meals to those in need, so that adds extra meaning, and feeling hunger builds my compassion for those who are hungry not by choice. I'm grateful fasting has always been a part of my life. Now I'm interested in trying the daily aspects you're mentioning. Thanks for the video!

You inspired me to give intermittent fasting a try. Your videos showing real food that I would actually want to eat, as opposed to eating "cardboard" type food are also inspiring. Last year I was able to lose 62 pounds! My weight loss has slowed down significantly and I have only lost four pounds this year. My goal is to lose another ten and am going to start incorporating exercise. Thank you for your wonderful content!

I experienced something similar when I eliminated grains and dairy from my diet for several years. Lost a lot of weight even when eating plenty of meat and cooking my vegetables in ghee or bacon fat. It was great until I hit that point where I looked like I lost too much. Started incorporating some grains back into my diet and gained some back. Finding that healthy balance for each of us can be a trial but very worth the work. Good to see that you've found what works for you and that you enjoy it ❤

I love that you brought up protecting your hormones!! As a woman, it is so important! I had a surgery that threw me into early menopause and it has been a battle ever since. Our hormones affect every single function in our body and keeping the naturally produced hormones intact is so important. Women think they can just take HRT and everything will be fine and it is not the same. You look so healthy and have such sensible suggestions and ideas that are also very manageable. Thank you for all of your fantastic videos!

Thank you for the four year update, so helps to hear long term ideas.
I lost a whole bunch being sick few years ago and knew the weight would come back multiplied afterwards. I've watched for my body set point and try focus on health of body and mind. I find restrictions make things worse but mindfulness really helps. I listened and read dr Mindy after your interview and find that not fasting before that time helps stop migraines that week. Our bodies are capable of telling us what we need if we listen.

I've been fasting for a couple years now. Lost about 20lbs in the first year and have been maintaining. Been doing 16:8 with no fasting on weekends to increase my overall calories and take a break. Will have to try not fasting the week prior to my cycle as I tend to naturally need to eat more that week. Looking to continue to loose weight as I haven't reached my healthiest body yet. Thank you , Jennifer! You look as though you weigh the healthy 117 of your teenhood, but muscle is heavy. I try to do all my eating in a few hours (say four?) and wait till I'm honestly hungry when I do - which varies a bit. I love this eating pattern because when I'm finished with my eating I clean my teeth well and that's the end of it. May your dreams come true according to the will of God. Bonnie

Hi Jennifer, first of all I want to say you look better with a little weight in your face. It’s still slim but you look healthier. I appreciate all of the info you have been providing on the different parts of fasting. I do find that since I have stopped eating earlier in the day I fell so much better when I go to bed. I am thinking of doing a 24hour fast but one quick question. I drink tea with 2% milk. Can I drink my tea during the 24hour fast? If not then I may try an herbal tea instead (even though it doesn’t quite hit the spot my English breakfast tea does) thanks again for everything you do

I've followed you all 4 years but just started fasting a month ago. Gin Stephen's book Fast, Feast Repeat, made all the difference. I also listen to her Intermittent Fasting Stories podcast when out walking or at the gym. I only want to lose 5 to 10 lbs but I am really enjoying fasting! I feel such a mental freedom from thinking about what I can and can't have! I lost 65 pounds in 2010 and have lived the diet mentality all these years. This feels so freeing. You look wonderful Jennifer.

Hi Jennifer, your video was very inspirational to me, and I started 16:8 fasting, and was faithful to it for over two months but I saw absolutely no weight loss. I am postmenopausal and that has definitely affected my weight. My doctor said the intermittent fasting that follows the same pattern every day is not “intermittent.” he said you have to variate and I think in terms of varying it, that usually means a longer fasting window. I feel like 16 is the longest I can go without food without losing concentration at work. By the time I am close to 16 hours, I am extremely hungry and that has not changed. This is most discouraging because it seems most information about intermittent fasting regarding females is all about premenopausal women. Be glad that you are still menstruating.

I'm also inspired by all the updates that you have shared, and after trying a shorter, more conscious window of eating per day--my system seems to love it so much! So I'm grateful for the information about your experience. Thank you for your mindful, warm style of sharing your experiences! Take care, Liz

I started intermittent fasting last year and lost about 15 pounds without altering my diet. That was great, but what was more amazing was the positive impact it had on my period. I used to get such painful cramps on my first 2 days, it reminded me of labor pains it was that bad. But now the pain is so much lower I don’t even regularly take ibuprofen! I know it is from fasting because I stopped during the summer and the pain immediately came back, and when I started back up in the fall it lessened dramatically. If I never lose a pound again, I will continue to fast!

I have not watched you for a long time. I did see your one year(I think it was)update. I turned 69 at the end of December and, I hit a stall several years back. I had lost 30lbs and I keep going up and down 10lbs. I do better to stay off carbs. They put weight on me immediately and boy is it hard to get off. Right now I’am shooting for a 20 hour fast. I feel so good though I may go 24. I want to try the PSMF way of eating and just see if it will get me off this hole I am in. I still have 30lbs to lose. I so much enjoyed your video and seeing you again. Your meals look so yummy. I need help with my wardrobe as well. I need to look at your 10 piece wardrobe you talked about. Congratulations, Jennifer! I can’t believe it’s already been four years. This video was just the motivation I needed to get back to IF after letting my health/eating habits slip over the winter. In the past I’ve done the 16:8 from 7 pm to 11 am but like the idea of starting a bit earlier as you mention. I also do weight training and understand what you mean when you say it increases your weight. For that reason I think I might use inches as my baseline (as well as weight just to see). I’m also curious to try the 24 hour fast. Thanks for another great video. 😊

Hi Jennifer! I have a question about coffee while doing IF.
When you said you drank your coffee black for optimal weight loss results, did you mean before you broke your fast, or after? I thought that once you are within your eating window that the cream would be okay. I know it's different for everyone and I'm just trying to figure out what works for me. I add a bit of cream but only during my eating window. Would appreciate your insight! Thanks for all the helpful and transparent info you share about your journey!!!! ❤️

This is good timing! I really enjoy your IF videos and updates. My experience with it was following Mindy Pelz last summer. I lost nearly 10 lbs off my 5’6” frame from 140 to 130 in just a couple weeks. Now I am back at it. Like you, I am slender but skinny fat so it doesn’t look as “unhealthy” but I felt it.
Just did my first 24H fast as soon as my period hit and will go hard at it all week due to cycle. I’m so glad you found Dr. Mindy because I’ve seen and heard so many women throwing their hormones out of wack since fasting was showing rapid results. You look wonderful and yes get that movement in! I’m attempting that too😅. At 36, I know I have a small window to instill strength and flexibility where it’ll really count later. Here’s to fasting like a girl! 😂

Hi Jennifer. I have been intermittent fasting for 4 years also. Plus healthy keto. I only lost 5 LBS. in the beginning. Now I fluctuate at times back up to those 5 lbs no doubt due to lack of walking because of a torn meniscus surgery. When I was young like you ,I could weigh what you do and look okay. I once got to 110 lbs and I was only 5'2. A very close friend of mine was becoming concerned and said to me,your head is looking bigger than your body. As I got older my body is not happy being under 125. I lost from 130 to 125 and both my sisters thought I looked frail. I am 67 and as you get older it looks much healthier to the face to have a little more weight. 125 was also always my high-school weight. I believe everyone's body has a certain weight it wants to feel best at. Also we have to take bone structure into consideration. I am medium boned. I do like the intermittent fasting and it has kept my blood sugar stable. No more crashes. Great video Jennifer. Have a beautiful day.

She has in past videos. First, just because she stops eating around 5 PM each night doesn't mean that is what everyone should do. You can adjust your hours of fasting for what makes sense for your life. Maybe for you that means beginning your fast at 7 PM or 8 PM. I think she has said in the past that she might adjust for special occasions, as you mentioned.

I really love intermittent fasting and here's why. I first did serious fasting in the late 1970s when mostly spiritual seekers and healers did it. There was a sacredness to it because you had to remove stimulants before, during and after. It was rather a slow and challenging process. Today - due primarily to our electronic internet world - instead of speaking of sacredness and the longer the better, it's all about quick spurts and weight loss. It's fascinating to study the historical differences. I admit that this is easier, faster and probably more efficient. I do rejoice in the knowledge that by limiting food intake my cells are given time to regenerate - that's almost the spiritual component for me. Also, I discovered that it's not carbs I'm addicted to but rather sugar! Again it's all about mindfulness.
