Everyone keeps saying the song is fun, but when you analyse the lyrics and start to understand the deeper meaning it’s so sad. I wasn’t expecting much tbh but Joost suprised me. The guy turns out to be a genius poet. Can’t get enough of Europapa.

It's about the melody and the catchy lyrics not really about the story. En hardcore uiteraard

The music is good, but it's the story for me that makes this song even better and brilliant for me. There are many layers in this song. The song title is a contraction of Europe + Papa (= father in Dutch). Multiple references to these 2 subjects: 1. He has been an orphan as of a young age (13). His father taught him that this world is his oyster, without borders. So he travels to many EU countries to escape the pain of the loss of his parents, but that doesn't work. No European food ("escargots, fish 'n chips, paella") can make him forget. Also there's a reference to Stromae's song "Papaoutai" ("dad, where are you"). 2. He used to watch Eurovison Song Contest (ESC) with his parents. And he said that one day he would be on that stage performing. His father encouraged him to live life without limits and to go for it. The small boy with the note pad references to his father encouraging him to write poetry (his father was a writer) and now Joost writes songs and he has made it to the ESC ("you see, dad, I listened to you"). With the burning (of the house, picture, building/mill (his past, growing up in Friesland)) at the end of the video, everything comes full circle. He has made his parents proud and he can accept their passing, his past and move on.

Hi Joost lost his dad off cancer when he was 12 and a litlle more than a year later his mum , they always watched Eurovision on the couch together, and Joost writing allready poems said I am going to stand there on that stage when I’m older and his dad’s repay was There are no borders in the world , you can do anything you want to accomplish so he showed us his lessons taught by his dad , fun but also the pain , and that you have to move on even after a big loss like that, and become an artist on Eurovision, the song from Stromae her was referring to means Dad where are you , I miss you so you see there are more layers in the lyrics than we know listening it for the first time, I am Dutch and I am so proud of this guy ,🥰 love him and his music .

I loved your enthousiasm! Never apologize for having fun 😊
Some extra background. Joost lost both of his parents by the age of only 13. This song is an ode to his dad, 'papa' in Dutch (Euro'Papa'). He told Joost that there are no borders and limits. In the song Joost basically tells his dad: I'm travelling to Euro 'Papa' (travelling to Europe dad). But although he travels Europe, the pain of losing them travels with him everywhere he goes. In the end he tells his dad: I listened to you. The family photo and house burning means he is ready to let the pain go. Like burning bridges.
I think it is pure genius to wrap such a heavy theme in such a happy song. Piece of art and very cachy.

The music style is called HappyHardCore. And it sounds very happy but actuely it's about his mom and dad who died when he was young. When he sings 'I lost everything, except the time, he refers to the wristwatch he got from his dad after he died. So I think, great tunes, deep lyrics, exceptionel preformer, this is a winner!!!

Like said before: Little bit of background on Joost. He was creative from a very young age and also a bit different. His father said that there are no boundaries and he should follow his dreams. They always watched the Eurovision Songfestival together so as a kid he replied that his dream would be to go to the Eurovision Songfestival. Then his dad passed away when he was 12 and his mother when he was 13. For inspiration and acceptance of the loss of his parents he travelled trough Europe. Therefore he sings that the pain and emptiness stayed with him no matter where he went. He paid for mental help but it did not work for him. Still he managed to be a very positive and joyful person as reflected in this song. He sings about the song Papaoutai from Stromae that is also about missing his father. In all of this he managed to combine lot's of cultural aspects of different European countries and the Netherlands. Without the layer of his personal life you will notice that a lot of elements can directly be related to the European countries. The young boy and the old man represent him and his father struggling trough life and his father being an example for him. The windmill is near where he spend his youth so also a trip trough memory lane to him. The final emotional scene represents him as a kid and his father when it all ended, the burning of the family photo and the building represents that you need to move on in life and not be stuck in the past. In the end he tells that he listened to his father (there are no borders for your dreams) and refers to him going to the Eurovision Songfestival. So winning would be optional, his goal was participation.

If you are curious, let Joost surprise you:
His art is so different but so fascinating, generally has many layers under the surface, much like this song.
Once you get closer to it, it's not unusual to fall into a rabbithole ...
With Joost you never know, each song can be totally different from the other.
And the many layers are sometimes hidden perfectly and then again they jump into your face and make you cry though you were partying very hard the second before.

Joost Klein dedicated this song to his father, who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no actual boundaries. His mother died a year later, when he was 13, due to cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to Eurovision. He has gone through so many challenges in life, and it is a true inspiration to see how he deals with them.

(The background and meaning of Joost Klein 'Europapa')
This is what Joost said about the song: "'Europapa' is a tribute to my father.
The song is a letter I wrote to my father, who died when I was a teenager."
'Europapa' is about an orphan who travels throughout Europe (and surrounding areas) to find himself and tell his story.
My father gave me a broad view of the world.
    Boundaries are made by people,
but my father told me that you can also set boundaries yourself by thinking out of the box.
At first people didn't know me,
but I continue to take every opportunity to show myself.
    When people see my act,
the first response should be, “What's going on here?”
and ultimately it touches people and makes them think.
'Europapa' initially seems like a very cheerful act,
but behind that lies a deeper message.
    (Background info from Joost Klein)
Joost Klein (26) is from the Netherlands.
Joost, is a Dutch musician, rapper, singer and former TH-camr.
He is primarily a hip hop artist and his songs and performances often incorporate influences from electronic music,
such as drum 'n' bass, hardstyle and gabber.
    Joost also writes poetry
At the age of twelve he lost his father to cancer.
A year later, in 2011, his mother died of cardiac arrest.
After the death of his parents,
Joost was cared for by his older brother and sister.

This stylo is so Dutch, Italtia Germenia all ripped us off. Stylio also pertayed in New kids Turbo and New Kids Nitro earlier. Pure Dutch Culturel swagger. The gabber culture. With a modern twitch. All ariginatted in Rotterdam and the guys in the rest of NL went of with it.

    Great track!
A sense of honor to his parents.
Joost is just in seventh grade when his father dies of cancer. Joost was twelve when his father died of cancer. At the time, he was just in the first year of grammar school in Leeuwarden. On his father's deathbed he promised him to become a writer. A year later, his mother also suddenly died. He is just twelve years old.

The song is actually a bit sad. As others already stated, he lost his parents at a very young age. There are a lot of double meanings / connections to his parents and surely i am missing something but ill try to name some:
Like the song is called "euro-papa" because papa is dad in dutch.
He is singing that he goes to other places but he feels lonely. He lost everything except time. he is struggeling
He is giving people money but nobody is helping him. He went to mental healthcare but they could not help him.
He is talking about the song Papaoutai from stromae. Papa outai means "dad is here" and the phrase Où t'es? Papa où t'es? means Where are you? Dad where are you? check out the lyrics of that song too :)
He is also mentioning "i wont stop until they say, yes he does that very well" because he is seeking pride from his parents.
The ending is pretty clear but i think he is talking to his dad and his younger him and he tells his dad that he listend to him.
Also the burning picture and burning house stands for him closing that chapter and he wants to move on and dont want to feel the pain anymore. while he was in therapy they used burning stuff to let go the old

You said you never listened to any Dutch music. I can understand that with Golden Earing (radar love) or Shocking Blue (Venus) both global hits in the 60 and 70ties or 2Unlimited in the 90ties. But I cant believe you never heard about Tiesto, Afrojack, Hardwell, Armin van Buren, Martin Garrix etc. All Dutch

Dude, if you are ADHD (same here, autistic too), you would LOVE the happy hardcore music genre (like the Party Animals)! I grew up in the 90s (80s kid here) and this music genre was in back then in the Netherlands. And in true ADHD-style, this song is stuck in my head LOL. And just a random tip for pronouncing Joost - think Yoast (SEO) ;)
