Costco Nongshim Tonkotsu Ramen. IS IT WORTH IT? | SNACK THERAPY

  • We found this new Tonkotsu ramen at Costco. It looked really good on the label and we knew we had to try it out for ourself. Nongshim is known to make popular instant noodles like Chapagetti and Neoguri used to make the popular Ram-don (Jjapaguri) from the movie Parasite. See if it is worth it!
Directly from Costco "Costco worked to develop this item with Nongshim. $9.99+tax for 6 bowls! It is currently only available in 25 Northern California Costco locations, but will be coming to other N.American Costco locations by mid summer. This item was originally designed as a spicy version, but we separated the spice component so that members who do not like spice can tailor the level of heat or leave it out completely. This bowl IS microwaveable and the assorted veggies and fish spiral should be under the noodle cake. Since the product is made in the USA we are working to be able to have a piece of pork included in a future version. Some instant noodle bowls in Japan actually include a dehydrated meat slice, but due to US import laws, we are unable to bring those items in country because of that piece of meat."

Costco worked to develop this item with Nongshim. $9.99+tax for 6 bowls! It is currently only available in 25 Northern California Costco locations, but will be coming to other N.American Costco locations by mid summer . The flavor is much more concentrated if you add the seasoning pack after the water boiling process. Some instant noodle bowls in Japan actually include a dehydrated meat slice, but due to US import laws, we are unable to bring those items in country because of that piece of meat. If you microwave it, you remove the lid completely. If you cover it, it might prevent steam from escaping and can lead to boiling over. If you use the boiling water method, then you leave the lid on. This is true for all Nongshim microwaveable ramen products that I've had. The instructions even say to remove it if you're microwaving it. Oh, and it's ton ko tsu. Sounds like you're saying "tonkatsu" which is breaded pork cutlet.

On a whim I bought the Nongshim at Costco the other day because of the sale and watched this video. You are right...it is not even close. Nissin RAOH is much better. Too bad Costco only had RAOH for a short period of time. I still have two boxes, even though they are way past the sell-by date. I bought them on clearance...a box of 8 for $3.97!

      @@trekkeruss Damn that's a steal! I didn't know costco had RAOH, but the asian markets I go to, I pay 2 bucks/pack.

@@JackEffenBauer Since you enjoy RAOH, check out the fresh ramen noodle kits from Sun Noodle. They will be in the refrigerated case. It is not much more in price...maybe $5-6 for a pack of two. Just about as easy to prepare as instant ramen too.

The tonkatsu isn’t actually like artificial tonkatsu, it’s like a whole different ramen.

IMO it's better to try things for oneself first. Watching a review before trying instills a bias

Idk why they do powder last in directions.. that’s gotta be wrong thx to default instructions. She’s such a white girl just like my gf lol.

But if you put in the powder first then water, u will have tastier noodles. Since the msg is with the water, absorbs in the noodle. And also rip off the lid and fold into a cup, acts like a spoon in some way.

Should have looked for a video first. The directions were sort of not easy to understand for me. I took everything out, took off lid filled tap water to the line. Nuke it for 4 minutes. Then added the noodles, and packets. After a few minutes of breaking up the noodles it started to feel like a Ramen. I liked it, now to figure you how to do the egg and chasu. ;-)

That's how you were supposed to do it, they didn't follow any of the directions on the cup.
