    Did this guy seriously just say biology textbooks haven't changed in 6000 years?? Whaaat? I guess this kind of belief is typical when you consider the Bible a biology textbook... I'm pretty new to watching the David Packman Show and it's really a pleasant surprise how respectful the interviews are. No constant shouting over each other, sincere attempts to get the topic on track, etc. Very nice!

    I DO see why he has a conversation with such people. Not to find agreement with someone who obviously will never stop spouting whatever nonsense helps him to maintain the fig-leaf of his belief system, but to show to his audience what an absurd farce based solely on lies is found on the other side of the argument. That is VERY instructive for those who were not aware of it already.

    And many also seem to think "abomination" means "not allowed anywhere, anytime" when, really, when you consider the times, the customs, etc, it merely meant "not customary" as in "not a regular thing". And even then, there were a bunch of other "abominations" listed like eating pork, shellfish, divorce, etc, yet you don't see "religious" people advocating against such things. People always just pick and choose things in religion that are most convenient in suiting their own agenda, bigotry, etc.

    David: What do you think about progressive issues becoming more popular?

    Chaplain: GAY MARRIAGE
    David: But are we becoming more progressive?
    Chaplain: GAY MARRIAGE

    I have SO much respect for that viewpoint. We're all entitled to our own opinions here in the USA. Honestly, as a gay man, I can't even say that I'm 100% behind gay marriage. What I don't understand, though, is the association that many conservatives try to form between that and sex with animals. It's gross, and just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, those thoughts aren't originating in the minds of gay couples who want to be united; they come from bigots, and perverted ones at that.

    And the fact is polygamy was the norm for a very, very long time. Plenty of societies were cool with gays. Even when marriage was one man and one woman it was for property, not love.

  • @Tangle2Brook

    Why do you keep interviewing this guy? He will never say gay marriage is OK, and you just want him to say most people say let them marry. A waste of time.

  • @marecku21
    @marecku21 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He was referring to Matthew 19:4-6: And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.” The discussion was whether divorce was permissible. Of course the passage can be read many ways.

    I never understood using the bible to attack same-sex marriage. If my religion says that i cannot watch gameshows for they are wrong. That does not mean You cannot watch gameshows, it means i cannot watch gameshows. If you believe the bible says Gays can't marry because its wrong, that means you cannot have a gay marriage, but the atheist down the street can. I mean seriously. Muslims can't eat pork, but never have i seen a muslim grab hotdogs in a supermarket and demand it be illegal.

    You want me to tell you why we are shifting towards social progressivism? In the past, political "truth" was lost in all of the propaganda. People only heard the political ads, and based their views off of them. Very few people actually thought about the issues really hard and tried to find the truth, which they may have shared with a few friends. But now with Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking, this massively multiplies the number of people who they can share their findings with.

    If recruitment were how it works, why is it that the "detox" procedure (pray away the gay, etc.) never really works. If you listen carefully to any in that movement being honest, they acknowledge that they are able to control their urges, but that their urges never really changed.

    Religious people believing something is wrong doesn't mean they want to outlaw it. There are many christians who believe; alcohol, smoking, divorce, remarriage, owning guns or violence of any kind, war, wealth, sex before marriage and the list could go on and on, are wrong even sin of the greatest kind. However they don't all (certainly some do) want to vote to take other's right to partake of these things away. His poll only addressed how they felt religiously, not politically.

  • @marecku21
    @marecku21 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not that I'm supporting the chaplain's position, but I think what he is trying to argue is that the institution of marriage reflects societies recognition, encouragement and support of reproduction, so that it really should not be extended to couples who biologically are incapable of reproducing. I don't agree with him, but I believe that is his position.

    The military uses them as a front line for dealing with mental health and offering comfort of faith.
    Of course, it would be better if units had a mental health specialist of some kind, and a reference sheet on nearby religious organizations.
    I guess I can understand a need for dealing with people's religious needs while deployed, but there has to be a way to handle that without giving a commission to religious proponent.

    Sex is not just about procreation. Its also about love. How often do people actually have sex to procreate? Most people either do it recreationally, because it feels good, or to show their love.

    You said "OK for raising children like normal marriage is."
    Homosexuality isn't just about sex. Its about love. They love and show affection as well. I don't see what point you were trying to make there.
    I wasn't questioning your views, I was questioning your insinuation that somehow children raised in homosexual houses grow up either sick or disadvantaged. Which is clearly false.

  • @marecku21

    Not true. DADT was adopted 20 years ago, and DOMA a few years after that. The notion that nobody was thinking about these issues 20 years ago is not true. I'll grant you 50 years ago. Polarization is a vague concept that really is used more often to generate heat than light. I would say that, while the nation is pretty much divided as ever, there has been a marked shift towards approval of same sex marriage, as well as marijuana and other things - i.e., away from the "conservative" position.

    "There is no such evidence."
    Of course not. This isn't how evidence works. There is evidence that suggests there are almost no differences between children raised in homosexual and heterosexual homes. The difference in observed cases is bullying due to discrimination. apa,org has the info. They are a scientific community.

There's increasing evidence that homosexuality is more related to genetics than anything. So the biological argument could very well be on its way out. Why is that the case?
