    Wait a minute....he writes a book claiming that Obama wants a one party nation. Doesn't every president wants essentially a one party majority? Hell, that's what Richard Nixon's goal was with the Southern Strategy.

    There's two ways to interpret "hasn't worked for her for 20 years". One is the person worked with her for 20 years. That is Dick Morris' meaning when talking about himself. The other is that it has been 20 years since the person worked with her. That is Pakman's interpretation. In this case both seem to be true about Dick Morris and if that is the case then he didn't contradict himself. He said the first about himself, agreed with the second about himself when David Pakman said the second about him, and disagreed with the first about the other people. He took offense at David Pakman conflating the first and the second.

    @renaissanceman21c 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Regardless of the liberals and conservatives bashing each other on the comment section, I think the interview ended due to a misunderstanding of what each of the other was saying. Dick Morris said that he had worked with Hillary for over 20 years; interviewer was saying that he hasn't worked with her for over 20 years. These are two totally different things, but unfortunately the two of them we're not understanding each other. That's when it got a little awkward and Morris just said, "OK see you later."

      +David Pakman Show I truly think you misunderstood what he meant there. I'm not a native speaker, but to me it sounded like he was saying "these other people have not worked with Mrs. Clinton for a span of 20 years before in their lives" and he was also saying "during the last 20 years I have not been working with Mrs. Clinton", but he was still saying "I worked with Mrs. Clinton for a span of 20 years before, starting about 40 years ago". In which case he wasn't contradicting himself. So probably a simple misunderstanding. And maybe he misguidedly viewed your misunderstanding of his statements as the last in a string of increasingly hostile bullshit attacks (like you misunderstanding him about immigration earlier) and just hung up. Doesn't necessarily mean he's a bad guy. Good interview though! Thanks for the vid.

    All kinds of adjustments are made regarding unemployment. The labor department has been using the same statistical data for years. Dick Morris LIED when he said, the number of Americans employed was down 20 million from 2008. The peak was 146 million in 2007. We are at that now at that same pre-crisis peak.

  • @petitio_principii
    @petitio_principii 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    His claim was that he *worked* with Hillary for more than 20 years, which is more than her then-current supporters had worked with her, not literally that they've "not worked with them for 20 years", which also happens to be the same time span since he stopped working with her, after having worked for so long, more than anyone on her side. Not a contradiction.

    A comment about the camera angles and editing: I would use a closer shot or a quarter side shot on David for when he's talking and an 'inset' shot - Like the one you're using for David's shot now. - when the guest is talking. Especially when there's no video stream for the guest, only showing a still picture: you get more info about the conversation, seeing your face, reacting to what the guest is saying.
    :-)
    Success with the show!

    What is wrong with people in the comments section of this video?
    Everyone is saying "he worked with her for 20 years, not 20 years AGO, ergo no contradiction" but that's not even the part where the supposed contradiction was.
    The contradiction was in him saying his working relationship with the Clintons ended about 20 years ago, while he claiming other people didn't know as much about the Clintons as him based on the fact those people hadn't had a relationship with the Clintons for 20 years, which was about the same amount of time he himself hadn't had a relationship with them either.
    He literally said, "I know Hilary better than almost anybody who's commenting on her in the public sphere, including her spokesmen and supporters, because *they haven't worked with her in more than 20 years."*
    And when David asked "I thought you said it had ALSO been about 20 years since you worked with her?" Morris replied, "Yeah, *THAT'S RIGHT."

    When I saw the title for this video, I assumed that this was probably going to be David's fault, honestly. He often makes some nagging little point of order amid a much larger discussion, and that causes unnecessary friction in an interview. I like when journalists challenge guests, but there is a difference between challenging the gist of someone's overall argument and nitpicking, and sometimes David nitpicks, which is ok for a 45 minute interview but wastes a lot of time in a 10 minute interview. Anyway, this is 100% Morris's fault. He could have just clarified and said "I meant I had worked with her for 20 years, and most of these other pundits, even if they have known her more recently, didn't spend as much time with her as I did." Problem solved, next point. This was in no way offensive / confrontational / inappropriate enough to hang up on an interview.
    And it wasn't a slow build to Morris hanging up in frustration either. David had let Morris talk for a long time, given that a) most of the interview was simply a plug for Morris' book (one that Morris introduced into the conversation himself), and b) the amount of ways Dick Morris is a delusional psychopath. David could have asked him "Don't all politicians want for their parties to achieve hegemony over the other parties permanently? Isn't that the point of being in a party?", but he let that slide. He let Morris call Hillary a "radical Liberal" without any of the 300 different ways one could challenge this. He let Morris say that "Reagan achieved all of his Liberal goals through Conservatism" without challenge. He didn't ask Morris about Obama deporting record numbers of illegal immigrants, or doing next to nothing about climate change, or how most "wealth re-distributors" don't lower taxes on nearly everyone or bail out the biggest banks. He didn't make Morris explain who "we" are that "say that Obama is giving everyone socialized medicine," or how Obama is actually doing this (since he fought to kill the Public Option), or whether Morris' argument is actually an admission that this policy is extremely popular in the country (since how else would this be used to enable a permanent majority?) So the interview was actually very light on criticism, and Morris is simply used to getting absolute affirmation from FOX.

    Dropping an interview when the questions get too tough is nothing new for Dick Morris. Years ago, he hung up on an interview with Tom Hartmann when, in response to a snarky, off the wall comment Morris made about a Bill Clinton staffer, Hartmann questioned Mr. Morris past ethics. In yesterday's interview, Mr. Pakman called out some pretty questionable claims by Mr. Morris, which seemed to offend Mr. Morris. A permanent Democratic majority via granting amnesty to illegal immigrant children is a little bit of a stretch. And let's keep in mind that Dick Morris is the guy who said repeatedly that Mitt Romney would win by a landslide in 2012. And then there's how Obama "screwed up" the economy? Anybody around in '08/'09 can remember that the economy could not have been more screwed up than that Bush administration economic el-foldo. Pakman's statistics clearly pointed that out. If Dick Morris wants wants a softball interview where nobody offends him by rebutting his claims, he can go back on Fox News.

    I personally think he has no credibility, this was solidified, when he felt so confident on the outcome of the 2012 election, and in the aftermath, was so far off base. His star has faded so much, and I really cannot find it within me to have any sympathy for him.

    The stock market has nothing to do with the economy, its all about "federal currency printing"? What the fuck is this guy talking about?

    • @theslimeylimey
      @theslimeylimey 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Large investment banks can borrow money from the fed at zero percent interest and invest it in the stock market which drives up stocks. Corporations can get cheap loans too and have used them to buy back their own stocks which drives them up. The fed has printed trillions of dollars and a lot of those dollars made their way into the stock market driving it up. The stock market is not accurate measure of current economic fundamentals which is what he means by it being its own entity.

      "Large investment banks can borrow money from the fed at zero percent interest"
      No they can't, that's bloody ridiculous.
      This is what the Federal Reserve actually does, according to their web site:
      The Federal Reserve lends to banks and other depository institutions--so-called "discount window lending"--to address temporary problems they may have in obtaining funding. Those problems can range from "garden variety" issues, such as funding pressures associated with unexpected changes in a bank's loans and deposits, to extraordinary events, such as those that occurred after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks or during the financial crisis in 2008 and 2009. In all of these cases, the Federal Reserve provides loans when normal market funding cannot meet banks' funding needs; while the discount window is not intended for ongoing use in normal market conditions, it is available to cover unexpected developments.
      To encourage banks to first seek funding from market sources, the Federal Reserve lends at a rate that is higher, and thus more expensive, than the short-term rates that banks could obtain in the market under usual circumstances. To minimize the risk that the Federal Reserve will incur losses from lending, borrowers must pledge collateral, such as loans and securities. Since 1913 when the Federal Reserve was established, it has never lost a cent on its discount window loans to banks.

      Fray2221 You are correct. I had heard/read somewhere the banks were using the low interest rate loans intended for consumer/business lending and investing it in the stock market instead. This was part of the bailout/stimulus process (TALF, TAF for example) that I thought was going on until recently but I looked into it and direct Fed lending was discontinued way back in 2010. Time flies. Only QE in the form of bond purchases or MBS securities continued until last year as I'm guessing you know.

    I love how Pakman has to look at his teleprompter for all of his progressive bullet points. Dick Morris thinks he is going to have a civilized interview about his book, instead it's a typical scripted progressive ambush from Pakman, spewing his typical premeditated bullet points. So bush league.

    To David P: You get some interesting people to agree to be on your show. However, you frequently act like a great jackass, with your interruptions and snarky attitude.
    May I suggest that, with people you can easily assume to have positions different from yours, you question them and let them talk so there is certainty on their "facts" and positions. Then say goodbye and state all the "facts" and positions you disagree with and make your case.
    I always feel your interviews with "opponents" go very badly.

    • @mystyc0
      @mystyc0 10 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Tangle2BrookWhat you describe sounds more like a "debate" than an "interview." You can't have a discussion with someone, unless you are actually talking to them. Pakman's approach is far more humanistic than what you describe, and does not try to classify people based on arbitrary ideological labels. Your feelings about his interviews are entirely your own, as they cannot account for people who return for multiple interviews, nor of praise given by others in the media.

      It's not being snarky! It's *journalism*!
      You've become so accustomed to seeing reporters roll over and play dead that the sight of one who actually points out the blatant contradictions of an interviewee has become foreign to you. This isn't The Johnny Carson Show
      BTW, fuck Dick Morris. Can we agree on that? He's a spineless halfwit who can't even stand being corrected for his asinine comments. He just expects this young man won't contest anything he says and basically just wants to taught his new book. Pathetic.

    • @Seattle-2017
      @Seattle-2017 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Tangle2Brook: That's not how interviews work. What you are describing is a political debate. Mr Pakman did let Dick Morris talk and make his "facts" and opinions known. However, when a guest starts making highly questionable statements or opinions, the interviewer is OBLIGED to respond and question those statements. Like the one about how Obama "screwed up" the economy. David Pakman stopped him in order to bring up economic statistics that counter what Mr. Morris claims. If David Pakman had let Mr. Morris talk uninterrupted and then rebutted Morris' statements after the interview, Mr. Morris would not have been able to counter-rebut Mr. Pakman. And also, it would be much less interesting an "interview". Morris had a chance to explain what he meant by "(Hillary Clinton's spokesmen and supporters) haven't worked with her for more than 20 years...", but instead dropped the interview when the questions got too tough.
