When I got into trains 6 years ago I watched Eric’s trains, seeing his trains really made me want the Lionel legacy system, Lionel motor city express set and a big boy
I started watching Eric Siegel (Eric's Trains) about 10 years ago, and he really peaked my interest and was a catalyst for getting me back into the O scale hobby that I loved back in my 20's.
@@Audamus mine was really toytrains1, not sure if you know them but they had a very specific camera angle in which the train rounded a dark corner and ran by the camera quite slowly.
Great video Johnny!! I for the same reasons buy older items that remind me of my childhood!! I remember watching Matthew Flanagan, Eric Siegel, PGH, Matttrainlover9943, and many others too and I do purchase items that remind me of those times watching them!! I believe that as adults we try to compensate for the things we wanted as children as our childhoods were the building blocks to out adult lives!! Cant wait for the next video!!!
Thanks for the compliment and your comments are some of my favourites to read~!! I totally agree, I’m trying to still live out my childhood dreams and don’t plan to stop~!!
Aww thanks man!! You always give great reply too!!! I'm really curious and I'm sorry for asking in comments on TH-cam, but is there an email or even a dm (possibly the ogr forum?) for a contact so we can contact each other about train stuff? It's cool to make connections with those who share similar interests and it sucks not having many people around me who are in my interest if that makes sense at all. Again I'm very sorry about doing this on TH-cam comments, but it was something I believe I had to do to reach out to you so here goes!!!
Not only am I into model railroading, I also love real trains. I actually hired on with Amtrak at the beginning of this year. Some of my favorite TH-camrs are Distant Signal, Wide World of Trains, RBP Trains, Sid's Trains, Eric's Trains, and CoasterFan 2105. Great video!
I definitely relate to wanting that classic railsounds scale locomotive nostalgia. My original models were all o27 on tubular track on the basement floor. If I was lucky I’d save up enough for a railking engine or a scale railcar. But the pinochle of my existence was the Lionel Legacy PM 1225. I wanted to move heaven and earth to find a way to get one. Fast forward years later I have plenty of scale engines, Niagara, berks, even the same SP GS-2 as you! But 1225 remained elusive till just this spring when I found it by chance in Memphis. You nailed it on the head with your talks of childhood dream completion. Subscribed and I hope to see more of your excellent videos!
As a commenter below mentioned, part of the fun is following that childhood dream~!! Glad ya found your dream engines, I’m still hunting for that 1225 myself~!! Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the sub~!!
Hey Johnny, what a great video. Nice idea reminiscing on other times about different trains. As far as my memories, it was about a Texas Special and a Santa Fe war bonnet. They were out every Christmas and only for two weeks. They were run on an old transformer and I recall them having smoke. That said, there were no videos, TH-cam, computers or anything like that. I finally got back into it (like gangbusters) in December 2018 at age 58 and guess what, of all people, my Mother at 84 bought me a train set to start me back on trains. Since then it’s almost gotten ridiculous how much I have bought. Anyway, great video idea and would like to see more like it. Really proud of you younger guys getting into the hobby. Tim
The Texas Special and Santa Fe warbonnets are iconic, I have the Santa Fe F3’s but I hope to get the Texas special one day~!! I love hear everyone’s stories and yes it’s amazing how much trains you end up with when you hop back into it as an adult~! Thanks for the awesome story and I’m glad you enjoyed the video~!!
I got into trains starting with Thomas the tank engine, Alphabet Train, I Love Toy Trains, and just about any train related media I could find. It all started on TH-cam with a video of 4449 thundering through a crossing and another video of Challenger 3985 charging through Iowa. That was back in kindergarten. Into second grade after I moved to Texas, I found Jlwii2000 and Eric’s Trains. Thanks to a Pentrex DVD, I wanted models of the 844 and 4449. Then, over the course of 2 Christmas’s, I added those 2 engines to my fleet, and along with the rest of my Northerns and 4014, they’ve become my “Quintessential Quintet” or my favorite engines lol. For posterity and as a way of paying tribute to my 4 year old self, I got an N scale Bachmann Thomas last fall. Sure I took breaks to focus on other collections, like LEGO, but my modeling journey officially kicked off November 2014. Now here I am, almost 7 years later and still collecting like mad. But hey it’s fun and I’ll always say “better trains than drugs!” LOL! Well that’s my story.
I grew up on the same types of train media as well~!! That video of 4449 is iconic and I watched it so many times growing up! I Love 844 and 4449, the second one being my absolute favourite steam star hands down. I've been fortunate enough to get 844 but I'm counting the days till it get 4449. I've actually got two in the works at the moment, one being the 80's version of 4449 in K-Line Daylight colours with legacy, and a War Baby version with PS3. I plan to show off both of these to the channel at some point. I'm so happy to hear you've been able to have such a successful journey in the hobby, and thank you for sharing your story~!!
I well first watched Eric, then Matt Flan, and then Trainline14. I wanted Trainline14's Lionmaster 4006... which I got a few years ago. And now I want to add a MILW 261 (as you know)
I’ve always wanted a blue comet she’s always been my favorite locomotive I grew up on tm books and Thomas finally got the girl she needs work to be the scale queen she is but it’ll be well worth it
Great video! I love the nostalgia with model trains. That’s why I love making my Thomas customs and even why I love my MTH HO 1225 so much. Sure I didn’t grow up with it, but my first model train was the O gauge Polar Express and I always wanted a Legacy one and just like you, I watched Matt’s videos of the Legacy Berkshires and I fell in love. And being in HO, the MTH HO version is the closet to that, at least in my eyes. I may not have what was my dream locomotive all those years ago, but what I have now is pretty damn close. Anyways really enjoyed the video! Very nice to listen to while working!
Glad ya liked it man, and yes Matt gave me my addiction to berks, it’s a serious problem 😂😂 Hope your 1225 is treating you well and you’ve got yourself a roster that I’m envious of. I’ll see if I can make more of these podcast style episodes in future 😂😂
I’d say the 2 main model train guys i’d always watch on youtube were matt flanagan and also tommyztrains. Tommy’s layout just screams ridiculously huge in every way imaginable. The one locomotive that started it all for me in O scale was the JLC big boy, the bug bit hard then and the was back in 2006. Haven’t sold anything since and have no plans to do so. Plus going to the wheaton train show with my dad made the bug bite harder then.
Tommyztrains was my go to for all my mth needs, I remember watching his GS-4 video over and over again. Plus all those lash ups were insane!! Those JLC big boys are nice engines, got to play with the one GFW has and I loved it~!! Still waiting for that train show to come back too~!!
You got some nice pieces! I remember looking over lionel train catalogues and dreaming of having two motor Virginian. I never got it but i have way more nicer stuff now!👍
I drooled over all the mth catalogs as a child and I leafed over the lionel ones more times than I can remember~!! Thanks for the kind words and yes you’ve got some awesome pieces~!!
I watched i love toy trains and eric's trains when i was younger i just recently got back into model trains in o guage i started on making a L shaped table but my transformer is really under powered its a 180 watt one that comes with starter sets but i was thinking about getting a wall adapter 180watt to have on the track to have more power but my steam engine takes alot or power and i try to run 5 passenger cars after it but it doesn't want to move it makes the noises but doesnt run
