The fact we got Sora in smash, original Sora at that, is an absolute miracle, I’m just glad it wasn’t a smash 4 cloud situation in the music department
With all the arrangements Yoko Shimomura did for smash there was no way we wouldn't be fed. Sakurai is totally a secret Yoko Shimomura fan. Especially with Sora releasing a day before her birthday.

The FACT that the Hollow Bastion overworld theme is in and we get to battle to it… gives me literal chills! It’s such an intimidating theme, playing as a kid and finally getting to Hollow Bastion, the tone shift was nuts, gone where the fun colorful Disney worlds, we are now stretching towards the end of soras journey, and this music felt so powerful to me, it still does to this day, and we get to battle to it!
Literally the happiest day of my life... I just wish we could have gotten "Hikari". I know it's a legal nightmare and it's already a miracle we got Sora to begin with, but damn, that trailer ending with Hikari... I just wish it made it in.

It's kind of a shame we didn't get any remixes other than Sora's victory theme (I was REALLY hoping of Shimomura to remix something, like how Grant remixed Spiral Mountain), but these songs were great enough already, and I can only imagine dealing with Disney just to get Sora at all was itself a massive headache.
Yea in glad with what we have but it's nowhere where I'd like it. I know it's a hastle to get rights for different Osts but man I wish they would have tried and went with a bigger bang. So many sweet Osts I always dreamed of hearing in smash if Sora ever got in as you said it's a shame.

For anyone asking "should I play Kingdom Hearts?" here's what I'll say as someone who didn't grow up playing it, in fact my first time through the series was only a couple years ago. I can best describe my time as a roller coaster of ups and downs, loved bits, disliked bits, but I walked away very happy that I went through them in the end. The biggest advice I can say is know to a certain degree what you are walking into - the memes about the lore and story being total nonsense are true to an extent, but if you are willing to go along with that nonsense it's a pretty fun ride, taking it in all together with the all in one helps keep things straight too. These games do show their age in a lot of respects, so a degree of patience for "old game jank" is a requirement, especially with KH1. Final bit of advice, spare yourself and play Chain of Memories on easy to blast through it and get the story as quickly as possible. The music is fantastic throughout, and while the "power of friendship" cliche runs thick in this series, heck it's a central theme - it manages to still be endearing and, as dorky as this sounds, was a pleasent cascade of optimism to me when a lot of games, and the world as a whole continues to feel bleaker and bleaker.

The Kingdom Hearts Franchise has SO MANY good songs, It's almost a shame we couldn't get them all. That won't stop me from jamming out to these 9 songs though ;)
You could use the argument and say that they added other Sora outfits from Past Games. But to be fair, the Sora that was shown in the Smash Trailer is KH1 Sora, so technically it would make sense for them to add only KH1 songs for the most part aside from Dearly Beloved. (MoM)
Too bad they couldn't have put any songs from II and III (especially II though, The 13th Struggle, Tension Rising, Darkness of the Unknown, Oscurita di Xehanort etc. all would've been killer tracks)
I'm sure they probably could have. But they were also able to only put in so many songs, and it definitely seems like they wanted to focus on Kingdom Hearts 1.
Leaning heavy into KH1. Seems like a smart move for gameplay, nostalgia and notoriety... Though interestingly, the battle themes from KH2 have been in every game since for 12+ years. Couldn't be happier with this ultimate crossover ending with a crossover game like KH... But I'd love to start a round and hear "Vim and Vigor"
Still though, wish they woulda leaned more toward KH2 Sora. I completely understand what Sakurai was doing, just a personal preference of mine. Also wish they woulda added The Other Promise as a theme, or some sorta remix of it. Woulda fit perfect in the Sora v Roxas spirit battle, and it's just such amazing emotional combat music

Surprised they actually added Destati in Smash because the people over at Square always considered it to be a cursed theme because bad things always occur whenever they include that song in the games disk. such as the development team losing all the games data. Destati is seen as the theme representing Darkness in KH much like Hikari is the theme representing Light in KH.
By definition, since the Keyblade lacks a blade, it’s not a sword Then again, it’s used as a sword in the Kingdom Hearts series, actually cuts a few things (Such as buildings or Luxord in the World that Never Was), and it looks to function as a sword in Smash, giving Sora long reach and most likely disjointed attacks

@@Hyuinn it's called a Keyblade because it's supposed to be a copy of the Original X-Blade the X in it represent key or Kye the ultimate weapon that can open the door to Kingdom hearts itself but was destroyed during the great Keyblade war that thousands of other wielders used to fight for either the light or the darkness and after that the X-Blade was split into 20 parts 7 of light 13 of darkness and can only be reforged by that amount P.s. Kingdom hearts is a world born from the hearts of everything planets, people, plants, animals anything. And is the ultimate source of light and darkness without it the universe will die. It's hard for me to complain because I'm extremely grateful that Sora is in smash at all as unlikely as it is, but save for the bonus track from M.o.M all the tracked we got are the 1.5 versions of KH1 tracks. It's truly a shame that we got no other music from across the series
I get why we didn't get world music but I would have liked a remix of Traverse Town or a big boss theme. A wild wish for me would be Lingering Will's theme or Roxas' battle music from KH2. But hearing KH music at all makes me happy (Wish I didn't have to buy KHMoM *again* just to have a save on switch for swing ver dearly beloved but I was looking to waste money on KH anyway after the reveal)
Sora getting into Smash is a dream come true but I feel a bit disappointed they couldn't put...basically any songs from KH2 or anything beyond that. I love KH1 as well but KH2's OST blows KH1's ost out of the water in terms of absolute bangers like "A fight to the death"
I think it fits because Sora is meant to represent KH1 in smash plus it would be a even bigger legal nightmare than it already was to get Sora in the game.
I’m not even a Kingdom Hearts fan but since the only game I had access to was Dream Drop Distance (cause it was the only KH game on Nintendo platforms at the time), I wish the boss theme from that made it in.

Play the games! They’re great! My only advice is try not to piece together the story too much or you’ll go insane, just enjoy the gameplay and characters because when trying to understand the story it’s just a convoluted mess in the end. The story is basically light vs Dark (good vs evil)
Very glad to hear Hand in Hand return. The first time you're in Traverse Town, the battle theme is Night of Fate (which, as a first time player made my every Heartless encounter a daunting experience). However, when you finally return after besting the most powerful enemies in three other worlds, Hand in Hand starts to play. I love how it shows Sora's growth and progression, and how he's growing to fear the Heartless less and less. Very happy to hear it once again in Smash Bros, and welcome to Smash bros Sora! :))
Technically, Hand in Hand becomes the battle theme immediately after you beat Guard Armor the first time. You can come back to the world any time, and fight Heartless in the Third District.
Considering how Cloud and Sephiroth vanish from the series just in time to show up in Smash... very easily. In fact, it could fit in super easy at the end of KH3 XD
For the people planning to check out KH, its like a Theme Park you visited once as a kid, many things are familiar you can see what endeared you so much back then its like coming home to better days on the surface. After a closer look you will see the rough edges and the wear and tear on your favorite rides, maiby your Childhood Park Mascot suddenly appears has to childish, the wait time is to long on a ride you already wrote so many times, not everything will excite you as much as it did back then when you were a kid, you've grown up after all, but if you forget that everything is just show and mostly has seen better days when you forget that stress adult live or general growing up in general brings, theres still so much to love and cherish and then you find that one Rollercoaster that really gets your heart pumping, you see all your childhood Heros in that Park and you get to be a kid again just from a different perspective. And at the End of the day you had a magical Experience and you drive home with a smile "its all still there you just have to allow yourself to love it" sorry Englisch isnt my main language
Yoko is an absolute Legend and her tracks and compositions are just breathtaking and so nostalgic and just candy for your ears!! May god bless that woman 🙏🏻
If Square Enix was difficult to give Sakurai the chance of making remixes of FF...(4 years since Cloud revealing). Now imagine put Square/Disney....It´s surprising that there are more than 2 songs for Sora´s stage
It's simple & clean, the character itself already is a legal nightmare. Having to add songs that are also from specific musicians/artists would be near impossible for their budget.
I’m sad “The Other Promise” isn’t in here even though Roxas is a legendary spirit, or “The 13th Struggle” with Axel. But I’m otherwise fine with this selection
Could the list have been better? Yes. But some people are expecting a bit much. SORA made it to Smash, not Terra, not Roxas, not Xion, so songs tied to those characters would have felt weird. Why we only have KH1 music is a mystery to me though. That means no Sora theme... his own damn theme.
That’s not true at all, characters bring over other characters theme songs all the time. Sephiroth brought the aerith theme, Terry brought ioris theme, if it’s from the games it’s fair play. In soras case if it wasn’t tied to Disney at all it was very possible to get more and it wouldn’t have been the least bit jarring

There's a lot of different people with different interests, so some of them don't care about another sword character while others don't care about a cube character standing out from the rest of the 3d models (heck, even Game and Watch looks better than Steve), and that's why it might seem that in general people aren't satisfied. Sora in Smash is a miracle in itself, getting Disney, SQEX and Nintendo to work together is a great accomplishment; but some of the most iconic songs in KH weren't allowed, and we could say the same about the missing duck and dog from the stained glass and maybe final smash. I'm not gonna complain but I'm gonna point it out: Sora in Smash was the Perfect pick for the last fighter, no doubt, but it could've been way more satisfying were not for copyrights and licensing hell.
No destiny island theme or Ansem SOD but at the very least we have fragments of sorrow and Destati in there but YES I CAN COMPLAIN TERRY BOGARD HAS 40 SONG!!!

Dearly Beloved Swing Version is 💯 the best song on here!!!! All the other songs are iconic but not amazing and I’m so glad we got one of the best Kingdom Hearts songs ever! I will definitely buy the rhythm game for this song. It should have been in Sora’s trailer
That's because neither Square or Disney has rights to it. Utada and the companies she works with, i.e. Sony, Universal, and more, hold rights to it. A lot more work than it seems
It's a good selection, but I'm a little disappointed they only pulled from KH1. I would have loved to get songs like Vim and Vigor, 13th Struggle, Wave of Darkness and Forza Finale to name a few

My new impossible dream is that they release an "extra songs pack" later on for dlc fighters at an extra price because man it would be a gigantic missed opportunity if they don't. I'm still enterally grateful that Sora is even in Smash though, that's insane, thank you Sakurai and all the Smash team for all your hard work.
I don't know anything of Kingdom Hearts but that Sora was the most requested to smash, when I saw the complete presentation I literally Cried, can't imagine how should have felt those who already know the character
For anyone wondering, most of the tracks in the video are the MEDI versions from the PS2 release. Look up their 1.5 version if you're curious how they'll sound in Smash.
dearly beloved playing with that picture makes this feel so final, makes you realize that smash has been going on for some time now. But with all good things, must come to an end, and what better way to send your farewells than have the most iconic characters shake hands. Been a hell of a journey that is for sure.

@@Cottoncandyships that's the main thing, game singular. Apart from Dearly Beloved's swing remix every song featured is from the first game lol. It's my one real disappointment since a major part of my excitement for Kingdom Hearts was the fantastic music across the entire series, but I'm happy Sora managed to get in at all since it was probably some sort of Disney restriction.

@@Soohable Yes it is. Certain characters got tunes from games they weren't from or based off of. Terry got music from games he was neither a main character from nor was even part of and Kazuya got music from Tekken 3 which he wasn't really on. Just because he was mainly based on his original appearance doesn't mean he couldn't get tunes from other KH games especially if they were central tunes. The only valid excuse they have for a lack of other tunes is rights. And given who owns KH, it makes sense.

If it were true, then other tunes from different KH games would have appeared in this DLC. This Sora is delivered from KH 1, so is the music. Thus, the delivery is consistent. They are not Disney.

Pretty sure Disney owns the KH music, not Square. At least that's the case for KH3, which Disney themselves (not Square) published on Spotify. Also, I think there was likely a deal between Nintendo and Disney, which allowed them to only use music from the original, or they would have to pay much more for music from later games. Considering that, I think the collection we got is pretty solid.
Vector to the Heavens, Sinister Sundown, and Tension Rising not being included is criminal. Just as bad as God Shattering Star, Twilight of the Gods, and Road Taken not being included for the Fire Emblem music.
And Whims of Fate being omitted from P5! Obviously music from Royal didn't have a shot, but still, I'd have like to hear Throw Away Your Mask, Gentle Madman, and I Believe too :)
There was a lot of things they could have added but they obviously couldn't so they made him more of a legacy character where they base most of him from his most iconic game and outfit which is the kh1. It shows in the music and stage selection. I definitely wanted a kh2 or 3 sora just for my favourite songs but I'm still happy with these choices.
All of these songs are definitely solid choices for Smash! If I had only one change to make, it would have been awesome if they had included Roxas’s theme as well.

It's kind of a shame we didn't get any remixes other than Sora's victory theme (I was REALLY hoping of Shimomura to remix something, like how Grant remixed Spiral Mountain), but these songs were great enough already, and I can only imagine dealing with Disney just to get Sora at all was itself a massive headache.

Yea in glad with what we have but it's nowhere where I'd like it. I know it's a hastle to get rights for different Osts but man I wish they would have tried and went with a bigger bang. So many sweet Osts I always dreamed of hearing in smash if Sora ever got in as you said it's a shame.
I've noticed that all the songs originated from the first game, perhaps if we get the all in one bundle we'll get songs from the rest of the series.

For anyone asking "should I play Kingdom Hearts?" here's what I'll say as someone who didn't grow up playing it, in fact my first time through the series was only a couple years ago.
I can best describe my time as a roller coaster of ups and downs, loved bits, disliked bits, but I walked away very happy that I went through them in the end. The biggest advice I can say is know to a certain degree what you are walking into - the memes about the lore and story being total nonsense are true to an extent, but if you are willing to go along with that nonsense it's a pretty fun ride, taking it in all together with the all in one helps keep things straight too. These games do show their age in a lot of respects, so a degree of patience for "old game jank" is a requirement, especially with KH1. Final bit of advice, spare yourself and play Chain of Memories on easy to blast through it and get the story as quickly as possible.
The music is fantastic throughout, and while the "power of friendship" cliche runs thick in this series, heck it's a central theme - it manages to still be endearing and, as dorky as this sounds, was a pleasent cascade of optimism to me when a lot of games, and the world as a whole continues to feel bleaker and bleaker.

But to be fair, the Sora that was shown in the Smash Trailer is KH1 Sora, so technically it would make sense for them to add only KH1 songs for the most part aside from Dearly Beloved. (MoM)

Surprised they actually added Destati in Smash because the people over at Square always considered it to be a cursed theme because bad things always occur whenever they include that song in the games disk.

@@Hyuinn it's called a Keyblade because it's supposed to be a copy of the Original X-Blade the X in it represent key or Kye the ultimate weapon that can open the door to Kingdom hearts itself but was destroyed during the great Keyblade war that thousands of other wielders used to fight for either the light or the darkness and after that the X-Blade was split into 20 parts 7 of light 13 of darkness and can only be reforged by that amount
P.s. Kingdom hearts is a world born from the hearts of everything planets, people, plants, animals anything. And is the ultimate source of light and darkness without it the universe will die. It also has enough power to restart the universe to whoevers vision if the control the X-Blade

It's hard for me to complain because I'm extremely grateful that Sora is in smash at all as unlikely as it is, but save for the bonus track from M.o.M all the tracked we got are the 1.5 versions of KH1 tracks. It's truly a shame that we got no other music from across the series
I get why we didn't get world music but I would have liked a remix of Traverse Town or a big boss theme. A wild wish for me would be Lingering Will's theme or Roxas' battle music from KH2. But hearing KH music at all makes me happy (Wish I didn't have to buy KHMoM *again* just to have a save on switch for swing ver dearly beloved but I was looking to waste money on KH anyway after the reveal)
Sora getting into Smash is a dream come true but I feel a bit disappointed they couldn't put...basically any songs from KH2 or anything beyond that.
I love KH1 as well but KH2's OST blows KH1's ost out of the water in terms of absolute bangers like "A fight to the death"

Play the games! They’re great! My only advice is try not to piece together the story too much or you’ll go insane, just enjoy the gameplay and characters because when trying to understand the story it’s just a convoluted mess in the end. The story is basically light vs Dark (good vs evil)

Very glad to hear Hand in Hand return. The first time you're in Traverse Town, the battle theme is Night of Fate (which, as a first time player made my every Heartless encounter a daunting experience). However, when you finally return after besting the most powerful enemies in three other worlds, Hand in Hand starts to play. I love how it shows Sora's growth and progression, and how he's growing to fear the Heartless less and less. Very happy to hear it once again in Smash Bros, and welcome to Smash bros Sora! :))

Technically, Hand in Hand becomes the battle theme immediately after you beat Guard Armor the first time. You can come back to the world any time, and fight Heartless in the Third District.
You know they could make this cannon to KH. Sora goes away and just magically arrives in smash.

For the people planning to check out KH, its like a Theme Park you visited once as a kid, many things are familiar you can see what endeared you so much back then its like coming home to better days on the surface.
After a closer look you will see the rough edges and the wear and tear on your favorite rides, maiby your Childhood Park Mascot suddenly appears has to childish, the wait time is to long on a ride you already wrote so many times, not everything will excite you as much as it did back then when you were a kid, you've grown up after all, but if you forget that everything is just show and mostly has seen better days when you forget that stress adult live or general growing up in general brings, theres still so much to love and cherish and then you find that one Rollercoaster that really gets your heart pumping, you see all your childhood Heros in that Park and you get to be a kid again just from a different perspective.
And at the End of the day you had a magical Experience and you drive home with a smile

Could the list have been better? Yes.
But some people are expecting a bit much. SORA made it to Smash, not Terra, not Roxas, not Xion, so songs tied to those characters would have felt weird.
Why we only have KH1 music is a mystery to me though. That means no Sora theme... his own damn theme.
That’s not true at all, characters bring over other characters theme songs all the time. Sephiroth brought the aerith theme, Terry brought ioris theme, if it’s from the games it’s fair play. In soras case if it wasn’t tied to Disney at all it was very possible to get more and it wouldn’t have been the least bit jarring
That's the thing with Smash tho, no matter how much they put into this game, people will always want more.

There's a lot of different people with different interests, so some of them don't care about another sword character while others don't care about a cube character standing out from the rest of the 3d models (heck, even Game and Watch looks better than Steve), and that's why it might seem that in general people aren't satisfied.
Sora in Smash is a miracle in itself, getting Disney, SQEX and Nintendo to work together is a great accomplishment; but some of the most iconic songs in KH weren't allowed, and we could say the same about the missing duck and dog from the stained glass and maybe final smash.
I'm not gonna complain but I'm gonna point it out: Sora in Smash was the Perfect pick for the last fighter, no doubt, but it could've been way more satisfying were not for copyrights and licensing hell.
No destiny island theme or Ansem SOD but at the very least we have fragments of sorrow and Destati in there but YES I CAN COMPLAIN TERRY BOGARD HAS 40 SONG!!!

All these stages and osts give me so much nostalgia, to minigames to fricking HARD BOSSES
The music alone is worth the price of the dlc but with Sora it becomes priceless, Sakurai has become cemented in my mind as a legend.
Dearly Beloved Swing Version is 💯 the best song on here!!!! All the other songs are iconic but not amazing and I’m so glad we got one of the best Kingdom Hearts songs ever! I will definitely buy the rhythm game for this song. It should have been in Sora’s trailer

KH2 Tension Rising is great but the KH3 Kingdom of Corona version was god tier.
It's a good selection, but I'm a little disappointed they only pulled from KH1. I would have loved to get songs like Vim and Vigor, 13th Struggle, Wave of Darkness and Forza Finale to name a few

So glad they got the "Scherzo di Notte" from the first KH game, it's the best one in my opinion.
My new impossible dream is that they release an "extra songs pack" later on for dlc fighters at an extra price because man it would be a gigantic missed opportunity if they don't. I'm still enterally grateful that Sora is even in Smash though, that's insane, thank you Sakurai and all the Smash team for all your hard work.

Terry got music from games he was neither a main character from nor was even part of and Kazuya got music from Tekken 3 which he wasn't really on. Just because he was mainly based on his original appearance doesn't mean he couldn't get tunes from other KH games especially if they were central tunes. The only valid excuse they have for a lack of other tunes is rights. And given who owns KH, it makes sense.

Your point? If it were true, then other tunes from different KH games would have appeared in this DLC. This Sora is delivered from KH 1, so is the music. Thus, the delivery is consistent. You talked about Joker, Terry and Kazuya characters as omnipresent proof when other characters like Banjo, Steve, Sephiroth didn't get Music beyond their base game. What's their excuse? Copy rights? They are not Disney.
I am not even a kh fan, i never touched the game before, and yet i got so excited to see sora in the game. Imma play kingdom hearts when they come out on switch

Aunque Sora no era el que esperaba debo decir que es el personaje perfecto para cerrar Smash Bros. Es triste ver todo el contenido que no pudo aparecer por el Copyright claro, pero aun así ya es bastante que Sora entrara al plantel y me alegro de que lo lograra!

@@mv2664 El tema del tráiler no está en el juego, hay que ver si en el futuro se añadirán más canciones en la compra de juegos nuevos de Kingdom Hearts exclusivos para Switch, ya que parece que con los ports en la nube no habrán canciones adicionales, así que hay que ver si en un futuro hipotético juego de KH ya sea musical se agregará otra canción. Aunque como digo, sería pagar 60 dólares por una canción, es algo abusivo.

Eso de los datos de guardado para la novena canción se me hizo muy fuera de lugar, anteriormente lo había visto pero para cosas minúsculas o easter eggs, pero con esto es pedirte que compres un juego ajeno para tener todo el contenido de smash, súper rara la movida de nintendo, square y disney.

Really happy we got Sora in smash but man do I wish we could have gotten more of the epic themes from entries outside KH1. KH music has some absolute bangers.

Scherzo Di Notte is just perfection. I love it way too much. So glad Kingdom Hearts has the best music of all time.
This video is slightly inaccurate. The version of Destiny's Force they put in is, much to my disappointment, is from the 1.5 game.
I'm actually kinda happy about this as me and my friends have a Sports Smash tournament going on and we're on the Semi finals the final Sunday of the tournament is when Sora comes out in Smash bros.....that means we get to do the final round as Sora himself THIS IS GOING TO BE AWESOME

Knowing Square, we were never gonna get a wide selection of music. I’m overjoyed we got these 10 tracks, but I can’t help but feel a little sad that others didn’t make the cut. If I had to choose 5 more I’d go with (in no particular order)
• The other promise
• 13th struggle
• Edge of existence
• Rage awakened
• Tensions rising
Pretty sure Disney owns the KH music, not Square. At least that's the case for KH3, which Disney themselves (not Square) published on Spotify. Also, I think there was likely a deal between Nintendo and Disney, which allowed them to only use music from the original, or they would have to pay much more for music from later games. Considering that, I think the collection we got is pretty solid.

Vector to the Heavens, Sinister Sundown, and Tension Rising not being included is criminal. Just as bad as God Shattering Star, Twilight of the Gods, and Road Taken not being included for the Fire Emblem music.
And Whims of Fate being omitted from P5! Obviously music from Royal didn't have a shot, but still, I'd have like to hear Throw Away Your Mask, Gentle Madman, and I Believe too :)

There was a lot of things they could have added but they obviously couldn't so they made him more of a legacy character where they base most of him from his most iconic game and outfit which is the kh1. It shows in the music and stage selection. I definitely wanted a kh2 or 3 sora just for my favourite songs but I'm still happy with these choices.
