Apparently there’s also a spin off manga that confirms their relationship but I haven’t read it

They’re the ones who blatantly show attraction only when Kae lost weight; and though Igarashi started off in that camp too, he quickly grew a genuine attraction for her without the weight loss or Fujoshi hobbies (then again, he does prefer her skinny). Nana and Shino only tolerated Kae’s “hobbies” due to ‘pretty privilege’ and were the first to make comments and show disapproval when she gained weight (she gains weight again a few more times in the manga, and each time those two negatively react).
I’m glad they don’t ever win any romantic attention from Kae (she likes them as friends at best), and I find it funny that the author decided to make them gay and hook her two immature shallow characters together (they are prefect for each other).

It's because she was acting so immature! That girl was literally enabling her into a feederism fetish and making her unhealthy obese, she was the only one who is the bad one here. It is repulsive when a person not act responsible for lots of people! And it was not about skinny but being healthy. The toxic skinny obsession is the one where people think you should have this certain weight or waist size or otherwise you are ugly that's problematic but not this one.
Gaining weight because of some illness is understandable but because of bad habits and then being ignorant about it is very repulsive. They stopped feeling attracted to her but they never thought she was any less than anyone else or deserved less or nor they shamed her so they were totally ok. The problem is shaming/bullying people and thinking they are less as a human.

Yeah as a person that likes queer stories for the forbidden romance angst aspect of it. I have only shipped fictional gay characters in BL's like Sasaki to Miyano for example or GLs and other BL/GL mangas but I have never shipped real people with each other, other than a handful of celebrities during a boy band phase in middle school. Shipping real life people is extremely bizarre to me. It would only be justified if two people you are shipping are already a couple and you are just rooting for them to last long and live a happy love life with each other because then that would be just wholesome.
