  • Having the proper mic technique is one of the MOST important aspects to beatboxing! Knowing how to correctly hold a microphone will make or break a performance and will allow you to best represent your music on stage!
    I will cover four different mic grips in this video: the closed cup, one finger up, two-handed closed cup, and the one-handed cup. I will give visual demonstrations of how to grip the mic, beatbox with the mic, and will give you audio examples so that you can hear the differences between them.

      I don't really know a ton about mic technique (about to find out though....aye!) but NaPoM seems to get some feedback and effects from his mic technique that are pretty unique. Codfish and D-Low seem to utilize their mics in a way that enhance and even change their sounds as well so I'm going to have to go with these three. @tyladubya

      For me its the beatboxer Adel, he came second in the latin american champs and at gbb he did something amazing at the 7TS with his mic technique. Maybe go watch the livestream on swissbeatbox.

    I think Tomozacrae has the best mic technique and here's why I think so. Despite not having the strong bass(that probably goes to Inertia). It comes out very clearly on the mic and it holds an impressive sound. It really makes a difference.

    I'm good at beatboxing in public, i tried using a mic twice and during both times there was lots of air distortion going through the speakers. Is the problem from the mic itself or should i try to reduce the amount of air coming out from my mouth during my beats?

  • @evanbelcher
    @evanbelcher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Hey, thanks for the video! I noticed that all of the grips you talked about were cupped in some manner. When I was at an a cappella competition with a professional a cappella specialist sound engineer, he told the beatboxers not to cup the mic's because it affects the quality of the sound (makes it sound like it's coming from a tunnel) and it's "not really necessary anymore". What do you think? Should I push back more against this advice? For context, the vast majority of what I do is just the basic drum kit with some clicks, drag, whooshes (technical term?), and humming. Thanks!

    • @TylaDubya
      @TylaDubya  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Evan Belcher I beatboxed in an a cappella group myself for 4 years and it is completely necessary! I would definitely ignore what he said, beatboxing is nothing like singing. If you dont direct your sounds correctly into the microphone they dont end up as powerful or punchy! Hope that helps!

    Dlow is great at manipulating his sounds with a mic but i prefer codfish because he can make very light sounds become powerful and stand out, i think this is due to his background beatboxing in games and stuff so using a mic alot
